Relationships end for all kinds of reasons. People change, careers get in the way, better suitors present themselves. Unless, of course, you’re a character in an indie film set in New York. In that case, the only way to break up is to spend a day walking around the city discussing the relationship with a neurotic friend. Such is life in “The Narcissists,” a new film by Quincy Rose.
The official synopsis from Gravitas Films reads: “Brooklyn filmmaker Oliver has once again found himself at a crossroads, facing troubles with his long-term girlfriend Cassi and in a rut creatively. While meandering around New York City with his best friend, Oliver explains his latest screenplay, a narrative meditation curiously reflecting his own life, wherein a couple are forced to make a decision: stick together and commit to another year of cohabitation, or call it quits after five years and move out.

Woody Allen’s very first directorial effort was the low budget, no frills Take the Money and Run, released in the summer of 1969 to an unsuspecting audience. While Allen was already somewhat familiar to the public via his numerous television talk show and stand-up appearances, as well as his small roles in three late-60s motion pictures, no one was quite prepared for the zany, nebbish onscreen persona that Allen debuted in Take the Money. It was a cinematic guise he would keep to the present day.
The intellectual Jewish nerd that Allen presented (here his character’s name is Virgil Starkwell) quickly became the guy whom we all thought Woody Allen really is. Some folks might have said, “Oh, he’s just playing himself.” Perhaps certain characteristics of the real Woody Allen may have been a part of Virgil Starkwell, or Fielding Mellish,...

Quincy Rose, the godson of Woody Allen and the offspring of the late Mickey Rose (an Allen collaborator on films such as Bananas and a writer for The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson), has just scribed, directed, produced, and edited his second feature film, Friends Effing Friends Effing Friends (Fefef) so roll out the red carpet and blow the horns. Such an amazing lack of talent has seldom been contained in a mere 117 minutes.
This is not to propose that Mr. Rose is totally bereft of any artistry. The trailer for his initial effort, Miles to Go (2012), in which he stars, displays an engagingly high-strung neuroticism in his Allenesque take on heterosexual relationships, and you can't help but wish he had cast himself as a lead in Fefef.
But before I decimate the theatrics and the writing, let's confront the plot. Two childhood buddies -- one circumcised, the other not...

Chicago – A neurotic New Yorker, Woody Allen has been a fixture in Hollywood for more than 50 years. After racking up 73 writing credits and 50 in the director’s chair, Allen returned to Chicago on July 19, 2014 to walk the red carpet for his new romantic dramedy “Magic in the Moonlight”.
The film stars Emma Stone and Colin Firth.
At the age of 79, our red-carpet video shows you Woody Allen’s enduring wit, discusses what he thinks is funny, reminisces about standup comedy in Chicago and recalls how much the now-vegetarion misses Windy City ribs. The video also includes interviews with executive producer Ron Chez and Metropolitan Capital CEO Michael Rose. Enjoy our red-carpet video below!
While it lacks the oomph and memorability of Allen’s “Blue Jasmine,” which in 2013 scored and Oscar for Cate Blanchett’s leading role, “Magic in the Moonlight” fascinatingly focuses on the seance, psychic and magic craze of the 1920s.

Six months ago, Louis Vuitton sued The Hangover 2 over Zach Galifianakis' line, "Careful, that is a Louis Vuitton," because it could cause "consumer confusion" since the bag was obviously fake. No worries though, a judge ruled against Lv earlier this week calling the allegations “not plausible” or “particularly compelling." Ha. I'm glad the judge realizes that "consumer confusion" isn't a real thing because, hello, if you're paying $30 for a designer handbag off of the street it's clearly not real. [Fashionista]

This month the BFI Southbank in London is playing host to ‘Wise Cracks: The Comedies of Woody Allen‘, a season of the directors top comedic efforts. To coincide with this season I decided to author my own retrospective guide to my all time favourite director in the history of cinema with a three part article discussing all his movies. And not just the comedies.
Actively helming movies since 1969, Woody Allen has been responsible for writing and directing more than 40 films throughout his illustrious career. His influence on cinema is astounding. Many of his movies are masterpieces while the few that are underwhelming still at the very least are among the best films released in that particular year.
The Brooklyn born Allen began his career in show business as a gag writer for stand up comedians and TV sitcoms. Before long he took to the stage himself with his own material and quickly became a star.

Legend Films will be releasing a couple of double-bills on Blu-ray from their licensing of catalog Paramount titles on May 3rd. No specs or extras have been announced, although judging from their DVD counterparts – who were once a Best Buy exclusive – I wouldn’t hold my breath. The titles are: The Skull (Freddie Francis, 1965)/The Man Who Could Cheat Death (Terence Fisher, 1959) and Student Bodies (Mickey Rose, 1981)/ Jekyll & Hyde Together Again (Jerry Belson, 1982).

With reports out of France that Woody Allen is shooting a cameo for the film "Paris Manhattan," a comedy from first-time director Sophie Lellouche in which part of the plot revolves around a pharmacist (Alice Taglioni) so obsessed with his work she prescribes DVDs of his films to patients, the 75-year-old filmmaker continues a tradition of picking peculiar projects to appear in outside of his own.
In a career that's entering its fifth decade, Allen has starred in just six films he hasn't directed ("Play It Again, Sam," "The Front," "Scenes From a Mall," the 1996 "Sunshine Boys" TV remake, "Antz" and "Picking Up the Pieces") and limited himself to a handful of other uncredited cameos. Though he's scarcely performed in anything in recent years - his last role as an actor was in 2006's "Scoop" - some of his most intriguing roles have come in the films in which he's scarcely seen,...
