Taylor Swift has conquered the world of music, and it's long been rumored that the next step in her career is the movies.
She has her own eponymous production company, for one. In 2020, she starred in the documentary "Miss Americana," and in 2021, she directed a short film adapting her song "All Too Well," starring Sadie Sink and Dylan O'Brien. Aside from a handful of supporting roles in several films, she also took the 2023 box office by storm with the "Eras Tour" concert film.
Swift has a passionate fanbase, one that is famous for finding (or creating) supposedly hidden messages across her lyrics. Now, her newly released 11th album, "The Tortured Poets Department," has whipped up a new Swiftie theory.
The last track of "The Tortured Poets Department" — "Clara Bow" — concludes with the line: "The future's bright and dazzling." Fans jumped to the obvious conclusion; of course, Swift is hinting to...

In March, Vox Media unveiled the latest splashy addition to its growing network of podcast creators: Esther Perel, whose show, Where Should We Begin?, has only further burnished her reputation as one of the best-known couples’ therapists around the world.
In attracting Perel, Vox Media beat out competitors like Spotify, which previously had an exclusive deal with the psychotherapist beginning in 2019 via Gimlet Media. The deal has also shown that Vox Media’s podcast ambitions extend beyond the digital media company’s brand of publications, which include New York magazine and The Verge, and into a realm that appeals to more than just “tech and [media] industry nerds,” as one executive put it.
This Friday, Vox Media is making its debut on Podtrac, the industry measurement tool that releases monthly rankings of the top 20 publishers and podcasts in the U.S. With a total of 59 active shows — compared to the 809 of...

“Swarm,” Prime Video’s horror-satire about a global pop star’s homicidal mega-fan, is not about Beyoncé or the BeyHive. Really. It’s not. The Grammy-winning singer wasn’t mentioned once during Friday night’s SXSW premiere — not in co-creator Janine Nabers’ introduction, nor in the post-screening Q&a with Nabers, Dominique Fishback, and Chloë Bailey, and the Queen Bey certainly isn’t name-dropped over the first two episodes, which screened to gasps and laughs at the Paramount Theater in Austin, TX.
But there may have been… inspirations.
“In April 2016, when a certain visual album dropped […] there was a rumor that a girl named Marissa Jackson killed herself because she realized that a certain pop star was being cheated on by her husband,” Nabers said during the Q&a with Vulture’s Sam Sanders. “I was on a text thread with some of my Houstonian friends, and for two days we thought...

Beyoncé may or may not have some unsettling material in her watchlist lately.
“Swarm,” the Amazon Prime Video series created by Donald Glover and Janine Nabers had its world premiere at South by Southwest on Friday, and the Houston legend’s name was treated like a secret all night. The series follows Dre (Dominique Fishback), a young woman who goes to gory, obsessive lengths to defend a pop star whom she idolizes: Ni’Jah, an extremely un-subtle spoof of Beyoncé.
At the post-screening Q&a session moderated by Vulture’s Sam Sanders, Nabers referred to “a certain pop star” who was cheated on by her husband and surprise-released an album about it in 2016 (Beyoncé’s “Lemonade”).
When asked whether that “pop star who shall not be named” had seen “Swarm” yet, Nabers hesitated, before responding, “Of course.” Sanders then asked whether Nabers could share any more about that, to which she said,...

If it's happening in pop culture, Sam Sanders wants to talk about it. This summer, Sanders launched Vulture's newest podcast, "Into It," which, as Sanders tells Popsugar, is about "the pop culture that we're obsessed with, the pop culture we can't stop thinking about."
"You can think of it as a weekly digest of all the stuff in the zeitgeist, but also some really interesting deep dives into all the nooks and crannies and deep parts of popular culture," he explains. "We can talk about everything from the business of being Beyoncé to why no one ever seems to want to end a show these days to the racial politics of 'Yellowstone' to which celebrity alcohol tastes the best."
He describes the list of topics as "well-rounded" and says the show's biggest asset is the rest of the Vulture team, whom he calls "the best and the brightest.

Not everyone was laughing as Jimmy Kimmel stayed committed to his 2022 Emmys bit during Quinta Brunson’s acceptance speech.
As presenters of best writing in a comedy series, Will Arnett dragged a seemingly passed-out Kimmel onto the stage, with Arnett quipping to the crowd that this is the “13th time in a row that he’s lost and he just got into the skinny margaritas back there.” When Brunson took the stage to accept the prize for her ABC series Abbott Elementary, which was her first-ever Emmy, Kimmel remained onstage.
Arnett tried to push Kimmel out of the way to make room for the winner, with Brunson telling him, “Jimmy, wake up. I won.” Kimmel gave her a thumbs-up but continued to lie down on the stage throughout the speech, and it wasn’t until after Brunson was done that Arnett dragged him back off.

Jimmy Kimmel was denounced as a “disrespectful man” for attempting to upstage Quinta Brunson during her historic Emmy win for “Abbott Elementary,” which saw her become only the second Black woman to win the Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series category behind Lena Waithe (“Master of None”).
A (confusing) bit featuring the late-night host and Will Arnett saw the latter drag the former’s “dead body” across the Emmy stage. Kimmel laid there motionless for the entirety of Arnett’s announcement of the nominees — and as Brunson made her way to the stage and eventually gave her speech.
Kimmel’s move didn’t sit well with many Twitter users, whose opinions on the matter ranged from annoyance to anger at the host for taking away from a special moment for the “Abbott Elementary” creator. “Not really feeling Jimmy Kimmel staying on the ground while Quinta is accepting her award. Joke was stale,...

Sam Sanders, Saeed Jones and Zach Stafford are coming together to host a podcast for SiriusXM’s Stitcher that will focus on news and culture from a Black and queer perspective.
The weekly series, Vibe Check, debuts on August 17 and will probe topics like Madonna’s Vogue, Beyoncé’s latest album and Lil Nas X’s career, but in a lighthearted manner meant to emulate a group chat between friends.

We’ll take “Scandals That Could’ve Been Avoided” for $1200. Mike Richards is already out as the new host of “Jeopardy!” amid backlash over his past offensive remarks and everybody’s got jokes — and, of course, more suggestions for his replacement.
Richards informed the show’s staff that he was stepping down in an email Friday, writing that, “It has become clear that moving forward as host would be too much of a distraction for our fans and not the right move for the show.”
The behind-the-scenes saga has already distracted fans, though, with one Twitter user wondering how “Jeopardy!” of all shows came to fill the drama void left by “Game of Thrones.”
Richards will remain as executive producer and the show will return to its short-term guest hosts until a permanent one is chosen.

Much like other major award shows, nominees for the Grammys often go on big media tours in order to promote themselves and their nominated work in hopes of boosting their chances of a possible win. While Grammy campaigning is definitely not as in-your-face as Oscar campaigning, it can still help keep artists in the public eye and potentially sway votes their way. After winners last year like Billie Eilish, Lizzo, and Lil Nas X did their campaigning due, let’s see who did theirs for this year’s ceremony.
One of this year’s biggest campaigners has been Dua Lipa, nominated for six awards including Album, Record, and Song of the Year. “Welcome home,” Disney World employees tell us in a controversial new ad announcing the Florida theme park’s reopening. Maybe not so fast? The Orlando vacation destination opened its doors back up for the first time since March on July 11 with capacity limits and strict mask requirements, but the event was not without some fierce backlash online. The reopening occurred just ahead of the latest Covid-19 totals out of Florida, which set the record on Sunday for the most new cases in a single day reported for any state since the pandemic began, at 15,299.
The ad released on July 8 encouraging parkgoers to return to Disney World inspired a series of parody videos on Twitter, with the announcement’s soundtrack replaced with everything from the music to the trailer for Jordan Peele’s “Us” to the soundtrack for “The Shining.” The video was even repurposed into an A24 trailer, using footage...

The “Schitt’s Creek” team has officially closed up shop at the Rosebud Motel. At Thursday’s Fyc event, held at the TV Academy’s Saban Media Center, star and executive producer Dan Levy recalled the cast’s tearful goodbyes to its favorite interior sets, which have officially wrapped halfway through shooting the comedy’s sixth and final season.

Filmmaker, actress, and writer Amber Tamblyn recently addressed the racism allegation made against her husband, David Cross, while she appeared on NPR’s “It’s Been a Minute” with host Sam Sanders. Cross was accused of being racist toward comedian Charlyne Yi in a Twitter thread posted by Yi last October. Tamblyn admitted Yi was not wrong to accuse her husband based on his behavior and said she helped Cross to learn his lesson and to realize he needed a change in perspective.
“He was rightfully accused of doing something racist to the comedian, Charlyne Yi,” Tamblyn said. “You know I think the jokes that work for white guys and their white guy comedian friends don’t work, always, for women of color.”
According to Yi, Cross made fun of her tattered pants when they first met. When she chose to ignore him, Cross responded, “What’s a matter? You don’t speak English?...
