The breakout star of Love Lies Bleeding, Katy O’Brian, is also seeing her fair share of franchise roles. Prior to her latest A24 movie, O’Brian has played parts in projects for Disney like The Mandalorian and Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. She will also be seen in the upcoming Twisters, where she says, “We filmed a tornado movie during tornado season in Tornado Alley.” She would reveal that her character is “a little sillier” than she has been used to, but she won’t go as far as to call it a comic relief role. “I don’t want to say comedic role, and then everyone’s like, ‘She wasn’t funny.’ We’ll say it’s silly and fun.”
Now, according to Deadline, O’Brian is joining the cast of Mission: Impossible 8 as filming continues underway for the Tom Cruise action film. Details surrounding the upcoming...

As last year’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning (which has dropped the “Part One” subtitle since it hit home video) wrapped up, we saw that Tom Cruise’s Imf agent lead character Ethan Hunt would live to run another day – and pictures from the set of Mission: Impossible 8 (which won’t be called Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two after all) show him doing just that! Cruise running is a big part of these movies and his overall career, so it’s nice to see that Mission: Impossible 8 will indeed have him moving across the screen as fast as his legs can carry him. There’s even some video from the set as well, if you want to see this run in action.

Five years have gone by since Tom Cruise announced that Paramount Pictures had given the greenlight to two more Mission: Impossible movies, with Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015) and Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018) writer/director Christopher McQuarrie returning to the helm. At one point, we thought these movies were going to carry the titles Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two… but Paramount is backtracking from that decision. After Dead Reckoning Part One underwhelmed at the box office when it was released last year, the studio has dropped Part One from the subtitle and has let it be known that the next film, which is still in production, will have a different title. A decision they really should have made before releasing the first half of the story. At least we’re still getting the second half of the story, with the...

You didn't think we were done with fresh tidbits and new reveals coming out of "Mission: Impossible -- Dead Reckoning" just because the film is wrapping up its theatrical run and headed towards its home release, did you? I mean, as Ethan Hunt once memorably stated early on in "Fallout," "What's done is done when we say it's done." That's never felt more true than with the recently-released Empire podcast spoiler special dedicated to all things "Dead Reckoning."
This podcast has already uncovered a host of juicy details, as a result of Empire host Chris Hewitt's marathon-like interview with director Chris McQuarrie. Last time, we heard more insights into plans for a de-aging sequence that originally was meant to open the film in style, but fans have been anxiously awaiting the next installment of the series as the conversation's been split up over multiple parts and slowly parceled out...

Since 1996, Tom Cruise has been the heart of the “Mission: Impossible” film series, thrilling audiences as Ethan Hunt, the Imf agent constantly plunged into increasingly dangerous scenarios. And he’s not about to stop anytime soon – “Mission: Impossible, Dead Reckoning, Part One,” the seventh film in the franchise, is due out this July, while “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Part Two” will be unleashed next June.
If, somehow, you’ve never seen any of the “Mission: Impossible” movies, they began in 1996 with the Brian De Palma-directed original, an adaptation of the popular, Bruce Geller-created spy series that ran from 1966 to 1973 for 172 episodes and was revived briefly in the late 1980s (that version only ran for two seasons and 35 episodes). Many of the hallmarks of the television series made it into the movie – the mission briefing that would “self-destruct” at the end of the message, the idea of a team of highly trained specialists,...

When it comes to the modern Mission: Impossible movies, you can forget the big Hollywood trade magazines. Writer/director Christopher McQuarrie is your main source for casting news. And he's put out the latest update, with word that actor Rolf Saxon is aboard the still-filming eighth entry Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2.
Saxon is a throwback to the original 1996 M:i movie, as he played CIA Analyst William Donloe, the who was supposed to be watching highly classified documents before Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt drops from the ceiling and steals them in one of the most iconic moments of that outing. Donloe's punishment for his failure? Reassignment to a chilly substation in Alaska.
It marks the latest in connective tissue to the first film, since we already know that Henry Czerny is back as Eugene Kittridge, who suspects Hunt is a mole. From the looks of the initial Dead Reckoning Part One trailer,...

A legacy character is returning to the “Mission: Impossible” franchise and it’s probably not who you’d expect.
On social media, writer/director Christopher McQuarrie just announced that Rolf Saxon, the actor who played unlucky CIA agent William Donloe in Brian De Palma’s 1996 masterpiece “Mission: Impossible” will be returning for the eighth film, “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Part Two” (due out in the summer of 2024).
If, for some reason, you don’t have an encyclopedic knowledge of the franchise, in the first movie Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his team, then comprised of Luther (Ving Rhames), Krieger (Jean Reno) and Claire (Emmanuele Béart), stage an audacious break-in at the CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia. This involves sneaking into the “black vault,” an ultra-secure CIA database overseen by William Donloe, an analyst at the agency. It’s Donloe’s vault that Hunt infiltrates by suspending himself from the ceiling,...

The "Mission: Impossible" sequels aren't done casting up just yet, and another blast from the past will be returning to the fold. As revealed by director Christopher McQuarrie on Instagram, none other than Rolf Saxon will be returning to the franchise for the first time since the original film hit theaters back in 1996. Indeed, we will be seeing CIA Analyst William Donloe back in action, and that raises some pretty big questions.

McQuarrie, unfortunately, didn't specify whether or not we'll be seeing Saxon in "Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One," which arrives in theaters on July 14 of this year, or if he will be in next year's sequel. It seems far more likely that Saxon will be in "Part Two," given that the movie is currently filming and the first installment has been in the can for a little bit now.

After 25 years, “Mission: Impossible” fans may finally find out whatever happened to William Donloe, the CIA analyst from the original movie who was supposed to be watching highly classified documents before Ethan Hunt drops from the ceiling and steals them in the now famous scene.
On his Instagram account Wednesday, “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” writer Christopher McQuarrie revealed that actor Rolf Saxon, who played William Donloe in the first “Mission: Impossible,” is returning in next year’s franchise finale, “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two.”
McQuarrie shared a photo of Saxon’s character, who is now sporting a beard after the events of the original “Mission: Impossible.” After Tom Cruise’s super spy Ethan Hunt suspended himself from a cable and dropped down from ceiling of the high-security CIA vault to steal the Noc list, Donloe was promptly fired and reassigned to a polar substation in Alaska.

It was a rare thing even back then. Inside movie houses across America, the silence was so acute you could hear a popcorn kernel drop—never mind pins. That was because on the big beautiful cinema screen, Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt was performing what 25 years and six Mission: Impossible movies later may still be his greatest stunt. And there weren’t any motorcycles revving up, nor was there a plane taking off. All we needed was an actor dangling from a wire over a glass floor. If you looked closely, too, out of the corner of his eye there suddenly would be a single drop of perspiration, which if it hit the floor meant game over. Trust us, Tom, you weren’t the only one sweating bullets that day.

James chats to directing legend Dirk Maggs about Hitchhiker's, superheroes, Neverwhere, sci-fi, and making radio sound sexy, big, and raw...
As a radio writer and director, Dirk Maggs' body of work is about as impressive as it gets. As well as being hand-selected by Douglas Adams to continue the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy radio series, he's also responsible for this year's smash-hit adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere and the Hitchiker's Live touring stage show. James managed to catch up with him for a chat about life, the universe, and everything geeky.
So last year you did the Hitchhiker's Live tour, which reunited the radio cast on stage and had people like Stephen Fry and Neil Gaiman guesting as the voice of the book. And clearly, it was a great success, because as well as releasing the live recording, you're doing another run this year,...

Title: Us Director: Sam Hancock Starring: Alanna Ubach, Michael Navarra, Patrick Russell, Rolf Saxon, Barbara Niven A recent world premiere at the 16th annual Dances With Films, the Los Angeles-set “Us” offers up an unusual yet sympathetically pitched examination of mental illness through the rubric of a weird love triangle. Anchored by a superlative lead turn from Alanna Ubach, this micro-budgeted, worthwhile indie feature could, given a wide enough audience, serve as an important pivot-point for the actress, leading her into more dramatic terrain. At first glance, Margaret (Ubach) seems like just a garden variety alcoholic — another thirtysomething wounded bird who drowns her unhappiness in booze and unfulfilling sexual [ Read More ]

The BAFTA award-winning point and click adventure series could be set to return if it keeps getting funded at its current pace.
More details about the latest from series creator Charles Cecil after the jump.
For the fourth sequel in the series, Broken Sword is going back to its 2D roots on the PC and Mac with Broken Sword: The Serpent's Curse. The campaign is already nearing 75% if its $400,000 goal just four days in, and if this pace continues, it should be on track to reach its target in the next two or three days.
Gamers are really showing love to this 16-year-old series which has creator Charles Cecil, co-founder of developer Revolution Software and Lead Designer for the series. Apparently this installment will see Rolf Saxon reprising the lead role of George.
The actual game is currently under development, with the Kickstarter campaign being used to speed up the dev process.
