A full Free Movie of the Day is posted on the JoBlo Horror Movies YouTube channel every day of the week – but on Fridays things get even freakier and a little more fun. Get your weekend started the right way by indulging in Friday Fright Nights! Every Friday, we’ll be taking a look at another genre movie you can watch in its entirety, free of charge, either on the YouTube channel linked above or in the video embed here.
The Friday Fright Night feature we have for you this week is an example of the sort of movie we need more of. It’s the found footage Bigfoot movie The Wild Man! No, I’m definitely not saying we need more found footage movies. I’m not a fan of the found footage style in general, so I did appreciate the fact that The Wild Man will occasionally break...

There was some brief debate — many years ago — as to whether or not an action picture like "Die Hard," set at a Christmas party, should qualify as a Christmas movie. That is: is "Die Hard" appropriately emblematic of the holiday season? These days, it's widely accepted as such — with some websites even finding scientific evidence to prove it — but there was a time when what did and did not qualify as a Christmas move was a matter of multiple critical kerfuffles. In 2022, the broad consensus appears to be that anything set at Christmas, even briefly, could qualify. Older critics have seen the definition broaden.
No such debate was ever required for a Halloween movie. What qualifies as a "Halloween movie" has, if one asks a die-hard horror nut, always been quite broad. Indeed, nearly anything in the horror genre can be watched in the month of October and count as a Halloween movie.

Horror anthologies have made a pretty healthy comeback in the last few years; some are ok, some are regrettable, and some have awesome production values as well as good stories, such as Tales Of Halloween. Created by director Axelle Carolyn, Tales features 11 directors helming 10 tales of bad behavior, wickedness, madness, and spooky fun, with an animated opening sequence by Ashley Thorpe. Made under the umbrella collective of "The October Society," this film showcases the talents of horror directors Carolyn, Neil Marshall, Darren Lynn Bousman, John Skipp, Andrew Kasch, Lucky McKee, Adam Gierasch, Dave Parker, Mike Mendez, Ryan Schifrin, and Paul Solet. Adrienne Barbeau pretty much reprises her The Fog DJ character in a sense, her smooth voice rolling out over invisible airwaves as the stories...

I’ve heard 2015 described as a bad year for horror, but that hasn’t been my experience. Between seeing a bunch of movies I really enjoyed (and will continue to enjoy for years to come) and the horror I’ve enjoyed through other outlets, I’ve been a happy genre fan this year. Here are some of my highlights:
We Are Still Here: Writer/director Ted Geoghegan’s debut feature may lack some of the nuance and technical polish of some other movies on this list, but no other horror movie has stuck with me as much this year. I love the wintery atmosphere, I love the loooong the film builds, I love the way that ghosts are depicted not as spooky things that float around and slam doors but instead are angry and vicious and have the immediacy of zombies. Most of all I love the way that...

Over the past year I reviewed a lot of indie horror films, some of them really good, some of them just Ok, and some of them really, really bad. The following isn't exactly a best of the year list, because I haven't watched every single film that was released, played at a film festival, or completed filming this year. Rather, these are the best movies that I reviewed for MoreHorror.com in 2015, and are all movies that I can recommend without hesitation.
Mania is directed by Jessica Cameron and stars Ellie Church. Olalla is written and directed by Amy Hesketh and stars Amy Hesketh, Jac Avila, Mila Joya, and Erix Antoine. Headless is directed by Arthur Cullipher, written by Nathan Erdel, and stars Shane Beasley, Kelsey Carlisle, Dave parker and Ellie Church. Spring is directed by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead and written by Justin Benson,...

The best of the bunch in this anthology of vaguely interconnected shorts are the outrageous and uproarious genre pastiches “Friday the 31st” and “Bad Seed.” I’m “biast” (pro): nothing
I’m “biast” (con): not impressed by most movies labeled “horror”
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
Most horror movies don’t usually do much for me — I tend not to find gore frightening — and the ones that are supposed to be funny typically do even less: I tend not to find gore funny, either. But the little packages of horror and horror comedy that make up the new anthology Tales of Halloween offer among them a few gems that made me laugh out loud or shiver with their creepy atmosphere.
The ten stories here are vaguely interconnected: they’re meant to be occurring in the same Los Angeles neighborhood on the same Halloween night,...

To celebrate the recent release of the horror anthology Tales of Halloween (now available on iTunes and all VOD platforms), Daily Dead spoke to the filmmakers behind the movie to discuss the project, their individual contributions and more.
Darren Lynn Bousman exploded onto the horror scene in 2005, taking over the Saw franchise with Saw II and turning the series into a household name at the helm of the first three sequels. He has since balanced studio projects with fiercely independent, more personal cult films like Repo! The Genetic Opera and The Devil’s Carnival. His contribution to Tales of Halloween, “The Night Billy Raised Hell,” stars Barry Bostwick as Satan pulling a series of dark pranks on Halloween night. It’s the lightest thing Bousman has made yet, and also the funniest.

A good comedy can make people laugh until it hurts and a great drama can reduce an audience to tears, but nothing affects movies goers as profoundly as a terrifying horror story. The experience of watching a horror movie taps into the viewer’s most primal instincts, causing physical reactions like trembling, screaming and leaping out of one’s seat. Everyone has experienced at least one film that left them leering at dark corners and afraid to go to sleep. Horror stories and the anthology format are the perfect match. Anthologies allow for several features over the course of a single film, and each one can frighten,...

ScreamFest La is now in full swing, and I could not be more ready for a week+ of horror movies from some of the best up-and-coming horror producers/directors in the world! I attended opening night on Tuesday and was treated to Epic Pictures & The October Society’s horror anthology Tales Of Halloween. The film included ten short terrifying—and sometimes hilarious—films from the likes of Adam Gierasch (Fertile Ground, Night Of The Demons), Andrew Kasch (Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy), Axelle Carolyn (Centurion, Soulmate), Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw 2-4), Dave Parker (The Hills Run Red), John Skipp (Nightmare On Elm Street 5: The Dream Child), Lucky Mckee (The Woman), Mike Mendez (The Gravedancers), Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers, The Descent), Paul Solet (Grace), and Ryan Schifrin (Abominable).
There are quite a few horror movies reaching the silver screen this weekend, but Tales Of Halloween is the perfect film for the season.

To celebrate the October 16th release of the horror anthology Tales of Halloween, Daily Dead spoke to the filmmakers behind the movie to discuss the project, their individual contributions and more.
Best known for his 2006 debut feature, Abominable, Ryan Schifrin wrote and directed “The Ransom of Rusty Rex,” his segment of Tales of Halloween in which two kidnapping thieves get more than they bargained for on their latest job. There's an O. Henry story that clearly served as inspiration for your segment, "The Ransom of Rusty Rex." What was it that inspired you to draw from that story while writing your piece?

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by an anonymous source. Directors/writers: Darren Lynn Bousman, Axelle Carolyn, Adam Gierasch, Andrew Kasch, Neil Marshall, Lucky McKee, Mike Mendez, Dave Parker, Ryan Schifrin, John Skipp, Paul Solet and Clint Sears. Tales of Halloween is an upcoming horror film anthology. Developed by Axelle Carolyn, this anthology offers ten tales of terror, from directors such as Lucky McKee (The Woman) and Ryan Schfrin. Each short tale creates either a creepy or comedic vibe. The best shorts, including "The Ransom of Rusy Rex," combine both of these tones. This viewer also enjoyed Lucky McKee's "Ding Dong," which is influenced by folk tales of old. Almost all of the tales are top notch. And, this film fan enjoyed the comedic ones the most. This is a film not to be missed by horror fans. There are simply too many tales to cover.

As a devoted lover of the current indie horror scene, there is no horror movie I was anticipating more this year than Tales of Halloween, an anthology film with contributions from 11 of the strongest voices working in the genre today. This is my event film. This is my Avengers. And it does not disappoint. Tales of Halloween isn’t just one of the best anthologies of the last 30 years, but also among the best Halloween-themed horror movies ever made. It’s funny and bloody and wicked and affectionate towards the genre in a way that few other films are. It’s the most fun I’ve had at a horror movie in a long, long time.
Taking place all on the same Halloween night, Tales offers up ten stories of slashers, aliens, killer kids, monsters, ghosts, witches, and the devil as played by Barry Bostwick. The list of talent...

Stick a gaggle of deviants together in a room and it won`t take long before someone mentions their love for Halloween. Hidden amongst the norms for most of the year, you can normally sniff these people out, if you`re careful and smart about it: a black cat accentuates at least one article of their clothing, skull shaped masks adorn their abode, white grease paint is constantly found in their creases, the color orange is pretty much everywhere, they are giddy when holiday meat is carved. They have also been known to have huge libidos, to be great in the sack and are apparently way above average in intelligence. Great. In. The. Sack.

Horror anthologies have made a pretty healthy comeback in the last few years; some are ok, some are regrettable, and some have awesome production values as well as good stories, such as Tales Of Halloween, which sold out its world premiere screening at Fantasia last week. Adrienne Barbeau pretty much reprises her The Fog DJ character in a sense, her...

It may only be July, but it can take a while to get in just the right mood for certain annual festivities. So, thank goodness for the early arrival of a trailer for Tales Of Halloween – an anthology horror movie featuring ten different segments, directed by eleven different directors.
“Ten stories are woven together by their shared theme of Halloween night in an American suburb, where ghouls, imps, aliens and axe murderers appear for one night only, to terrorise unsuspecting residents.”
In many respects, an advantage of a horror anthology is the fact that it allows for many filmmakers to showcase their work, giving the whole project a fascinating blend of flavours. However, what is notable about Tales Of Halloween, is that – despite – featuring the work of very individual directors, there is an overall tone that snakes through each one, making it feel very much like part of a larger whole.

The rule of thumb is, usually only half of the segments are generally satisfying while the remainder leave a lot to be desired (save for the few successes such as Asylum, Creepshow, and Trick ‘r Treat). Epic Pictures Group recently announced that they will help produce a new horror anthology set for release next year around Halloween. The new anthology, Tales of Halloween, is based on a concept created by Soulmate director Axelle Carolyn.
Twitch reports:
The ten stories will be woven together by their shared theme of Halloween night in an American suburb, where ghouls, imps, aliens and axe murderers appear for one night only to terrorize unsuspecting residents. Apart from Carolyn the list of directors, under the name The October Society, includes her husband Neil Marshall (The Descent), Mike Mendez (Big Ass Spider!), Joe Begos (Almost Human), Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II,...

Every year, crackling bonfires, a steaming witch’s brew, and the crunch of dead leaves come together for a creepy Halloween night concoction that makes one feel like anything could happen. Michael Dougherty’s 2007 anthology film Trick ’r Treat certainly embraced the magic of this night and now a group of directors collectively called The October Society have begun development on Tales of Halloween.
A film featuring ten interconnected segments from 11 directors, Tales of Halloween begins shooting this November. Horror readers fond of the splatterpunk genre may be happy to hear that John Skipp, co-author of The Light at the End, the sought after Fright Night novelization, Animals, and many more novels will co-direct one of the segments with Andrew Kasch (Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy). Neil Marshall (The Descent),Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II, III & IV), and Mike Mendez (Big Ass Spider!) are among the other directors.

In news that will utterly not shock you at all, Rob Zombie is making a horror movie. The crowdfunding campaign (wait, there was a crowdfunding campaign?) for "31" is complete, and the director will get working on what he hopes will be a franchise-starting tale that "follows five carnival workers who are kidnapped the night before Halloween and held hostage in a compound known as Murder World. They'll try to survive a terrifying game called 31 in which murderous maniacs dressed as clowns are released to hunt them down and kill them." Scary clowns, how original! [THR] The omnibus horror subgenre is alive and well thanks to the "ABCs Of Death" and "V/H/S" movies, and here comes another. Neil Marshall, Darren Bousman, Joe Begos, Axelle Carolyn, Adam Gierasch, Andrew Kasch and John Skipp, Mike Mendez, Dave Parker, Ryan Schifrin, and Paul Solet will get behind the camera for "Tales Of Halloween.
