Michael Weston and A.J. Buckley in ‘Bark’ – Fantastic Fest 2023
Bark writer Steve Fauquier and director Marc Schölermann have taken an incredibly simple premise – a man is tied to a tree in the woods, alone, without any idea how he got there – and created a unique, intense, and utterly captivating thriller. Fauquier and Schölermann also delivered a film that’s impossible to describe without giving too much away (which means this is a super short review). The slightest hint at what’s in store could spoil the well-earned shocker of an ending – a final act bound to spark conversations and have a significant portion of the audience cheering.
A two-hander driven by outstanding performances by Michael Weston (Home Before Dark) and A.J. Buckley (Seal Team), Bark makes excellent use of a single location to evoke a wide range of emotional responses. It’s impossible not to place yourself in the tied-up...

The opening night movie for the festival is the new “Toxic Avenger,” produced by Legendary alongside Troma, and written and directed by the great Macon Blair (recently seen as Oppenheimer’s put-upon lawyer in Christopher Nolan’s film). In anticipation of Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance, we had a chat to Mark Neveldine, one half of the writing/directing team who brought you Crank…
You probably didn’t know Mark Neveldine’s first name before you decided to read this interview. Neveldine/Taylor are usually referred to as, well, Neveldine and Taylor, the filmmaking team known for their over-the-top, frenetic directorial style and super-edgy subject matter.
They’re the team who brought us the Crank franchise (and thus many of Jason Statham’s finest moments); they tackled the weird world of online gaming in the wonderfully crazy Gamer; and they also wrote Pathology, one of the darkest and most disturbing horror movies of the past few years.
So it’s really, really exciting that they’re about to unleash their vision of Marvel’s darkest antihero in Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance this month. We grabbed Mark Neveldine for a chat about it…...

If carrying the title Pathology wasn't clue enough, the film is about the dead, and having a dead person gracing the cover of MGM/Fox's upcoming DVD release only makes sense. But apparently someone didn't think so as there has been a drastic revision for the upcoming release. Arriving September 23rd is the now tamer version that rocks commentary by Director Marc Schoelermann and writers/producers Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, a Conversation with Pathologist Craig Harvey, an Unintended Consequences music video by Legion of Doom vs Triune, and deleted & alternate scenes. Read on for the before and after of the art.

MGM Home Entertainment has announced the DVD release of Pathology, which stars Milo Ventimiglia, Alyssa Milano, and Michael Weston. DVD Active reports that this "twisted tale of terror" will be available to own from the 23rd September, and should retail at around $27.98. The film itself will be presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 track. Written by Neveldine and Taylor, the story centers on a young intern (Ventimiglia) who is studying pathology at Philadelphia's University Hospital and encounters an attractive but murderous group of colleagues who have devised a deadly game to see who among them can commit the perfect murder, while the others compete to determine the cause of death.

MGM Home Entertainment has set a September 23rd, 2008 release date for the DVD of medical thriller Pathology (review), and I have to say it’s about damn time. They never game it a decent theatrical release to begin with so very few of us have had a chance to see it yet.
Hopefully the disc will make up for it; it comes with a commentary by director Marc Schoelermann and writer/producers Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, a featurette called “The Cause of Death: A Conversation with Pathologist Craig Harvey”, deleted and alternate scenes, and the music video for “Unintended Consequences” by Legion of Doom Vs. Triune.
In case it has slipped your mind, Pathology stars Milo Ventimiglia (of “Heroes” fame) as a brilliant young med student who is challenged by other brilliant young med students to pull off the perfect murder. So, you know, it has characters you can really relate to.
