For more than two decades now, Activision’s Call of Duty franchise has continued to be regarded as one of the best and longest-running game franchises out there. The series is known to release a new installment every year. Some even consider the Call of Duty series to be a pillar of the first-person shooter genre.

While the series has some great games under its banner, the Call of Duty franchise also has a decent number of games that never saw the light of the day. Among them is a third-person shooter Call of Duty: Vietnam. For those clueless, Sledgehammer Games wanted to produce a new experience under Activision’s first-person action franchise around 2011. However, it was later canceled.

Few directors and creatives survive after their first big success; people like Ken Levine, Glen Schofield, and Cliff Bleszinski were not so lucky after the success of their greatest IP. Once Gears of War was behind Cliffy B, the director tried several times to make a new great game.
Lawbreakers was one of these projects, but the title quickly went out of play, and the director distanced himself from gaming design. But fans seem to want to bring back this game, and this director is very happy and surprised about this community engagement.

It’s a good time to be a fan of survival horror games. The genre has seen a resurgence in popularity for the last few years but with a slew of hotly anticipated titles just around the corner, a gory renaissance of terror is upon us. Leading that charge is The Callisto Protocol, a third-person survival horror game set hundreds of years in the future on Jupiter’s moon, Callisto. Although technically a brand-new IP, the game’s pedigree has built layers of hype since its reveal. Developed by Striking Distance Studios...

"Every sound, every movement, is closing in." Time for a visit to Jupiter's moon Callisto in the year 2320. We're not a video game site and only post gaming content when it's worthwhile, and this live-action trailer for a sci-fi game is worth a look. The Callisto Protocol, made by Striking Distance Studios, is launching later this week on all platforms. They recently debuted a live-action promo trailer, featuring the actor Josh Duhamel starring as the main character Jacob Lee, an inmate of Black Iron Prison on the moon Callisto. Players must face terrifying creatures as they uncover the secrets of the United Jupiter Company. The game is a story-driven, single-player survival horror from the mind of Glen Schofield. This plays like a two minute sci-fi short film about discovering a prison where everyone is dead but coming back to life. Some freaky shit. ›››

We’re only a week away from The Callisto Protocol being out in the wild. And to seemingly culminate the marketing campaign, Striking Distance Studios has released a live-action TV spot for The Callisto Protocol. Not only that, but there are two versions of the TV spot.
The 45 second spot sees Josh Duhamel doing his non-cg version of protagonist Jacob Lee, crash-landing on Callisto, flashing between several scenes of Jacob making his way through the death and destruction in Black Iron Prison. The spot ends on a cliché note, hoping to entice those still holding out on picking the game up.
However, in fitting fashion, there’s another version of the TV spot for The Callisto Protocol that is of the Red Band variety (courtesy of IGN), showing more of the red stuff, gory goodness, and more unpleasant imagery. This one adds a minute to the original ad, so bully for us!

December is inching ever closer, and so is the release of Striking Distance Studios’ The Callisto Protocol. And to keep the buzz going, the developer has released a brand-new launch trailer for The Callisto Protocol that starts off with a bang, and quickly descends into hell.
Featuring the song “Lost Again” by Kings Elliot (recorded exclusively for The Callisto Protocol), the launch trailer quickly gives you the story overview of protagonist Jacob Lee being incarcerated as an inmate in Black Iron Prison, located on Callisto, one of Jupiter’s moons. When a mysterious outbreak throws the moon into chaos, Jacob must face his darkest fears to defeat the bloodthirsty creatures that stalk him as he unravels the dark mysteries at the heart of the powerful United Jupiter Company.
The trailer “showcases thrilling performances from Transformers star Josh Duhamel as Jacob Lee, The Boys star Karen Fukuhara as Dani Nakamura, and Sam Witwer as Leon Ferris.

After getting some help from The Walking Dead‘s Robert Kirkman in the first episode, he’s back once again with Striking Distance Studios’ second entry in their “Mastering Horror” docuseries for The Callisto Protocol. This second episode of Mastering Horror, entitled “Atmosphere & Tension”, focuses on (what else?) the way atmosphere and tension are used in horror entertainment, and how the team at Striking Distance Studios is implementing them in The Callisto Protocol to heighten players’ sense of fear.
Joining Kirkman once again are Glen Schofield and the development team at Striking Distance Studios, along with the cast of The Callisto Protocol, Tom Savini, Alec Gillis, Sean Cunningham and more notable horror personalities. The series of clips sees the participants discuss how to build tension in a game like The Callisto Protocol, which includes looking at pacing, and its effective use.

We’re all hungry for Striking Distance Studios’ The Callisto Protocol. The studio knows it, and are keeping the anticipation building with the release of part one of their docuseries on The Callisto Protocol entitled “Mastering Horror”.
The first of a three-part series, Episode 1 sees director Glen Schofield, along with members of the development team and personalities from the horror genre (such as The Walking Dead‘s Robert Kirkman) go behind the scenes of The Callisto Protocol and discuss their shared love of horror.
Entitled “Brutality”, this first episode shows plenty of it in The Callisto Protocol. If you’ve been keeping up with the various previews (including our own by Thomas), you know that the game is going to be a bloody affair.
In fact, it’s so bloody, that according to the game’s Japanese Twitter account, the game’s release in Japan has been cancelled due to...

The Callisto Protocol wears its inspirations and ancestry on its sleeve: it’s a dark, violent survival horror game directed by Glen Schofield, the co-creator of the original Dead Space.
Like Dead Space, if you had to use one word to describe Callisto, that word would be, as Schofield himself has said, “brutal.” Enemies fasten onto your neck, spring out of nowhere, shrug off gunfire, and are actively trying to mutate into something even worse.
If you don’t splatter them across the wall, they might not actually be dead, so your first move whenever something stops moving is to run over there and stomp in its rib cage. It’s like the fight choreographer for Brawl in Cell Block 99 made a horror game.
If this all sounds familiar, it should. The Callisto Protocol is effectively the Bloodstained to Dead Space‘s Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. It’s not...

December seems so far away to get our hands on Striking Distance Studios’ The Callisto Protocol. It hasn’t been made any easier, thanks to the appearance of a new gameplay video for The Callisto Protocol at Gamescom. Presented by Striking Distance Studios’ CEO Glen Schofield, the new footage ups the ante for those fans looking for more Dead Space-style dismemberment, while also carving out some new stuff for The Callisto Protocol.
The new Gamescom footage for The Callisto Protocol sees protagonist Jacob Lee making his way through a corridor while avoiding the mutated Biophage. Of course, there’s always time to make use of the various gadgets at the player’s disposal. That includes sending the Biophage into a grinder, as well as making targeted shots to sever limbs. You can even use Biophage as shields to protect you from enemy projectiles (much to their dismay). Keep an...

One of the most surprising games of E3 2016, Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding, will not be on stage this year when Sony presents their wares. Read Kojima's tweet below and see if you can decipher it. Plus, find out when you can see the man, himself, live and in person at E3!
When we began on the long, winding road to E3 2017, one of the games we were most excited to get an update on was Hideo Kojima's first game since Konami, Death Stranding. Alas, we aren't so lucky this year as Kojima has tweeted out that his team has decided to forego E3 2017 in favor of spending that time developing. That didn't mean Kojima, himself, wouldn't still be in attendance, though.
Apologies to our fans, Death Stranding will not be @ E3 as we are fully focused on development. Pls see me with @geoffkeighley on 6/14! pic.twitter.com/w...

No Auto-Regenerating Health In Call Of Duty: WWII’s Campaign; Sledgehammer Bigs Up “Emotional” Story
Since it was first introduced via Punch-Out in ’83, the concept of regenerating health has become a tried-and-tested hallmark of the video game industry, and if there’s one franchise that embraces the game mechanic wholeheartedly, it’s Call of Duty. In the heat of battle, players simply have to avoid taking damage for a set amount of time and voila, your in-game avatar is right as rain.
That all changes with the launch of Call of Duty: WWII though, with developer Sledgehammer Games revealing that, in an effort to add a heightened sense of realism, players will be required to limp over to their nearby medic when their health runs low. The same rule applies to ammunition; once that stash of bullets is gone, you’ll have to call upon your fellow squadmates for help.
Glen Schofield, co-founder of Sledgehammer, offered up some context in a recent interview with Polygon,...

Despite going on to become the best-selling game of 2016 in the United States, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare “wasn’t the success” Activision envisioned.
As part of the publisher’s recent earnings call, Activision touched base on the status of its flagship Fps series, noting that the far-future setting of Infinite Warfare “didn’t resonate [with players]” as expected. This year’s Call of Duty will subsequently steer the franchise “back to its roots,” where “traditional combat will once again take center stage” in lieu of space combat and futuristic weaponry.
Per the publisher’s three-tier development cycle, Sledgehammer Games has been elected at the helm for Call of Duty 2017, and early reports claim the Advanced Warfare dev is planning to circle back to the 20th century – World War II, in all likelihood – for the...

Infinity Ward may be next in line to take the reins of Activision’s Call of Duty franchise as per the publisher’s three-tier development cycle, but that hasn’t prevented Advanced Warfare developer Sledgehammer Games from teasing fans of its next project.
In what is surely a wink and a nudge toward 2017’s installment in the first-person shooter juggernaut, the company’s Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer Glen Schofield took to Twitter earlier today to touch base with Sledgehammer’s next release. Skating around the specifics, Schofield revealed he is “so f**king stoked” about the game, and that the creative team has kept one ear to the ground in order to acknowledge fan feedback.
We’re designing a new game so in design mode I do art. That’s how I think. Probably weird but it’s my way of concentrating.

In keeping with previous content packs, Activision has confirmed that Microsoft’s timed exclusivity for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare‘s Ascendence Dlc will expire after a thirty-day period, meaning that the add-on will make its way onto PlayStation 4 and PC come April 30.
First released for Xbox platforms at the tail-end of March, Ascendence will bring about a total of four all-new multiplayer maps for the futuristic shooter, and that quartet in question will include Perplex, Chop Shop, Climate and the Mount Rushmore-set Site 244. Like Havoc before it, this Dlc will introduce players to a host of new weaponry, alongside the new-fangled grapple mechanic which will make the jump from single-player into Advanced Warfare‘s multiplayer segment.
Multiplayer isn’t the only focus of Ascendence, however, as the content pack also includes a new map for the game’s ever-popular Zombies Mode. Taking place on the outskirts of a desolated Atlas compound,...

Activision and Sledgehammer are continuing to support Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare with the release of the shooter’s second expansion pack, Ascendence, which is due to make its debut on Xbox platforms on March 31.
As the bombastic trailer above attests, this bundle will herald four all-new multiplayer maps in the form of Perplex, Chop Shop, Climate and the Mount Rushmore-set Site 244. Much like Havoc before it, this Dlc is set to include new weaponry as well, not to mention the introduction of the popular grapple mechanic into the game’s multiplayer mode.
Alongside these is a brand new map for Advanced Warfare‘s Zombies Mode. On this occasion, players will be tasked with surviving waves of undead on the outskirts of an Atlas facility. With brute and armored zombies scrambling for your brains, it looks to be the perfect set-up for an entertaining, if nailbiting affair.

Since Sledgehammer Games’ Vietnam-set Call of Duty title was canned late last year, we’ve gradually learned more and more about the ominous, never-to-be-seen game. And today, a trio of concept images have appeared online detailing some of the ideas behind the third-person spinoff.
In truth, the stills, which come courtesy of entertainment designer Eddie Del Rio, paint a bleak, Apocalypse Now-like picture of the studio’s shelved property. The stark visual style coupled with the jungle setting hints at a Call of Duty campaign that never was; all that seemed to be missing was a solemn voiceover from Martin Sheen.
Speaking with Cvg, the company’s co-founder Glen Schofield touched upon the thematic elements of the title, which would have taken inspiration from another reputable franchise that Schofield worked on while at Visceral Games.
“We had the underground tunnels. We were definitely getting some Dead Space moments. I...

Normally we don't cover anything from the realm of video games unless it happens to cross over into the film world. Whether it's video game adaptations like Assassin's Creed with Michael Fassbender or Splinter Cell with Tom Hardy, we're on top of those stories. Every now and then we post live-action trailers for new video games because they're directed by a known filmmaker. But this time, we're focusing on the first trailer for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare because it stars Kevin Spacey. And we don't mean that he just lends his voice to the film. The likeness of Kevin Spacey is also used as what appears to be a villain. Watch! Here's the awesome trailer for Activision's Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare from YouTube: The trailer is directed by the Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare game director Glen Schofield, but what's also fantastic is who's producing the game. After a fierce backlash against Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in our comments section yesterday including some angry gamers wanting their money refunded, developers Sledgehammer Games are now begging for users to give their latest title some good reviews online.
Sledgehammer Games’ Glen Schofield wrote on Twitter yesterday;
“I don’t usually do this but, if u like MW3 go 2 Metacritic.com & help our user score… It’s suspiciously low. Be honest but help if u agree.”
Which is a priceless quote, really. Firstly, he can’t understand why the score is so low when the obvious reason is because their latest game has let down so many fans and secondly, that he is begging for good reviews but only if you ‘agree!’.
In the few days since Modern Warfare 3′s release, the latest Call of Duty title is receiving a phenomenal amount of zero scores on all platforms from angry gamers.

Los Angeles — Behind a pair of nondescript black doors on the second floor of an angular office building along an unremarkable stretch of Ventura Boulevard is the headquarters for "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" developer Infinity Ward. It's out of sight from Hollywood in an unsuspectingly sterile place where one might except to find spreadsheets, not video games.
Yet beyond these doors is where one of the gaming industry's most successful titles was created – and where its sequel nearly unraveled last year when "Call of Duty" publisher Activision Blizzard Inc. fired Infinity Ward executives Jason West and Vince Zampella, a shake-up that left shoot-'em-up fans wondering if there would even be a "Modern Warfare 3."
