The Casting Society of America’s annual Artios Awards, which recognize superior achievement in the casting of film, TV and theater projects, has announced the nominees for its film categories, which range from 200 million blockbusters to low-and-micro budget titles.
Anticipated Oscar darlings such as “Elvis,” “Tar,” “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “The Fabelmans” and “Glass Onion” are present along with juggernauts “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and “The Batman.” “Top Gun: Maverick” is strangely absent.
But the real surprises are the smaller titles that have gotten little awards attention in races so far such as “Bros,” “Emily the Criminal,” “Armageddon Time” and “Spoiler Alert,” along with streaming titles such as AppleTV+’s “Cha Cha Real Smooth” and “Causeway,” Netflix’s “Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical” and “White Noise,” and Amazon’s “Emergency” and “Catherine Called Birdy” among them.

The Berlinale hommage to the always outstanding Charlotte Rampling who also received an Honorary Golden Bear, was concluded with a long and lugrubious movie, ‘Hannah’ (2017).‘Hannah’, photo Courtesty of Parade Deck Flms
In its pacing and depiction of a solitary woman, it recalls Chantal Akerman’s Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles, but the crime in this story is of her husband and she is left to deal with her life as the movie goes through her mundane existence, step by painful step.
Hannah drops her husband off at prison, where he is to begin serving a sentence. She then stoically goes about her life, household chores, working as a cleaning lady for a rich family, and taking part in an amateur theater group in the evenings. But signs pointing to an abominable crime by her husband accumulate, and Hannah begins to feel the pressure — people turn away from her...

Lisa Soltau was living in Seattle when her friend Bonnie Gillespie sent her a book she had written called "Casting Qs," a compilation of interviews with casting directors. "I read it and I absolutely loved all the aspects of the job," says Soltau. "I loved the entertainment industry and movies and television. The process of casting sounded wonderful."She called one of the two casting offices in Seattle and ended up working as an intern there for about six months. But the CD told her she should move to New York or Los Angeles if she really wanted to pursue a career in casting. "I picked L.A. because I had lived there once for about three years and I thought it would be easier to acclimate there," Soltau says. "Plus I wanted to work on 'Six Feet Under,' which was airing at the time.

Chicago – Director Scott Teems has been working the film exhibition circuit hard for the past two years since releasing “That Evening Sun” in 2009. Featuring Hal Holbrook in one of his finest roles, the film has built an audience one city at a time.
The compelling story is about a farmer named Meecham (Holbrook) in the twilight of his life, whose son has placed him in an elder care facility. Determined to reclaim his land, Meecham escapes from the facility, only to find another family living on his farm. He finds out that his son has allowed this, not knowing that the new tenants include a man named Choat (Ray McKinnon), who Meecham despises. His run-ins with Choat comprise the rest of the narrative, with themes of aging, family, friendship, redemption and truth.
