- Under her birth name of Marjorie Preece, she emigrated to the United States after World War II where she married a Colonel in the United States Army who later became an executive for AT&T. She was involved in a number of social and cultural activities including serving as an Girl Scout leader and officer; as a member of the Daughters of the English Empire where she held a number of high offices, and as a member of the English Speaking Union. She received an MBE from Queen Elizabeth II in 1985 for her charitable work and her efforts in promoting American-British relations. She was survived by a daughter and grandchildren.
