Strangely, the most influential films are sometimes the ones that show the most age as time passes. How can you watch “Godzilla” or “Yojimbo” without thinking about the countless, often inferior, films they inspired? “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge,” the smash hit 1995 Hindi romcom that immediately revolutionized Indian cinema, faces those same disadvantages when being watched by a viewer today. So many subsequent Bollywood productions have borrowed from its sensibilities, and even paid direct homage to specific scenes, that elements seen as fresh in the 90s could be looked at as predictable now. It's hard to imagine a time when filmmakers were hesitant to feature Non-Resident Indians in major roles, and it's even more mind-boggling to think of Shah Rukh Khan as anything less than the global icon he's been for three decades. Yet when it was released, “Ddlj” pushed the envelope and helped to establish a new era in the Indian film industry,...

It was the grandfather of Ntr Jr, Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, the Telugu superstar of his time and the original Ntr, who became the first non-Congress chief minister of Andhra Pradesh in 1983, riding on the powerful slogan of Telugu Vari Atma Gauravam (or Telugu people’s self-respect). He was the supreme leader of the Telugu Desam Party, which is now helmed by his son-in-law, Chandrababu Naidu.
The ‘Naato Naato’ win was a booster dose for this ‘self-respect’, which Ntr (the original) kept drumming home during his historic Chaitanya Ratham marathon mass contact movement across the state, which saw him covering 75,000 km on his remodelled Chevrolet van.
And guess who accompanied him throughout this criss-crossing of the then unified Andhra Pradesh? It was Ntr Jr’s father, Nandamuri Harikrishna, an actor who started his career playing the baby Lord Krishna in Ntr’s 1967 mythological classic drama, ‘Krishnavataram’. While one can be inspired by other creative works, the line is thin and the creator can be in trouble with copyright infringement rules. The most recent example is the popular song from Kantara – ‘Varaha Roopam’ – composed by Ajneesh Loknath. The ‘Varaha roopam’ song has glaring similarities with ‘Navarasam’ song from a Kerala based music band Thaikkudam Bridge. The music band has also announced that it would be filing a lawsuit against the creative team of Kantara. In the backdrop of the controversy Tnm looks at similar allegations of music copyright violations cases in India and the end result in each of these cases. Saregama Vs Eros International...

New Delhi, Jan 14 (Ians) The cash-rich Indian cricket board should pay taxes, and not seek exemption from the central government, and host the T20 World Cup in India this year, says former treasurer Kishore Rungta.
According to a document of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (Bcci), if the government gives only 10 per cent exemption, it would have to pay $31 million (around Rs.226.58 crore) and if the government rejects exemption completely, then it will have to pay $124 million (around Rs.906.33 crore) -- provided it is willing to pay the tax from its account and host the prestigious World Cup.
The International Cricket Council (Icc) has put two conditions to the Bcci to get full tax exemption for the T20 World Cup, tentatively scheduled to be staged in October-November. If it doesn't get the exemption, the tournament would be relocated to the United Arab Emirates,...

But then again,it takes almost three hours of playing time for us to realize that Bharat is no small achievement. Like Sultan before this, director Ali Abbas Zafar doesn’t hesitate in blowing open Salman Khan’s image of the Superstar who always plays variations of himself.
In some of the sequences in this episodic endearing oddball off a film Salman invests genuine emotions. Pm Narendra Modi
Starring Viveik Oberoi, Manoj Joshi, Suresh Oberoi
Directed by Omung Kumar
This is not the Narendra Modi bio-pic that we’ve all been waiting for. The one that shows this powerful well-meaning sincere statesman taking hard decisions and taking on opponents like a lion in a jungle of craven wolves.
No. This is not even a bio-pic. It is mythological saga, a passionate puranic paean to the powerful prime minister who took his tea-selling childhood to a glorious Himalayan summit beyond ‘Chai-na’. Seen in that dazzling hagiographic light this film is not so offensive.
Viveik Oberoi handles the principal role with a certain amount of flair and decency. His eyes speak more than a thousand words. Lamentably this is a film that believes in the power of verbal lamp-posts. Every self-glorifying thought that this celluloid holographic Modi feels must have a verbal counterpoint. Every rhetoric and retort...

What starts off seeming to be a take-off on Mani Ratnam's most recent political drama "Chekka Chivantha Vaanam" turns into an engrossing crackling cat-and-mouse drama about a political empire in Maharashtra where siblings squabble for power after the patriarch (Atul Kulkarni) is gunned down.
Straightaway, "City Of Dreams" encircles a cluster of power-hungry characters whose motives are never cogent, let alone comprehensible. There is always a sense of more going on here than meets the eye.
Writers-directors Nagesh Kukunoor, Rohit C. Banawlikar peel off layers after layers of subterfuge to reveal a system of governance that thrives on corruption and deception.
Deftly inter-woven, the plot moves in mysterious ways embracing characters who are at once cunning and naive. The aforementioned wounded politician's daughter Poornima (a very lovely and emotionally empowered Priya Bapat) fights it out with her out-of-control debauched brother Ashish (Siddharth Chandekar).

If you enjoy political satires, The Accidental Prime Minister may not be the film that its makers would recommend for you. Outwardly, the intent and purpose of this fiercely political parable is to give us the “real” picture of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s parent party and how it manipulated him into fronting their dynastic designs.
And how much more real can it get than Anupam Kher as Mr Singh?! The beard, the turban ,the soft hushed barely audible voice (make sure you get your seats in a Dolby equipped theatre)…Kher gets the externals so right that we scarcely care about what lies beneath.
And what lies! If we are to believe this film, then Manmohan Singh was a baba in the woods, an angel in disguise, a scholar and academician thrown into the cesspit of politics,...

After helping his bit in the Swach Bharat Abhiyaan, Akshay Kumar is likely to step in to yet another political move and this time, he is going to aim for an innings as Prime Minister Narendra Modi! Yep. You heard right! Akshay Kumar, who is a very popular face amongst the masses and also a staunch supporter of the government’s efforts, is being scouted to play the role of Narendra Modi in the biopic which is being planned on him. Earlier, faces like Paresh Rawal and Anupam Kher were making the rounds. Incidentally, Anupam Kher will be playing the role of former Pm Dr. Manmohan Singh in the film, The Accidental Prime Minister. Shatrughan Sinha, actor and a vocal government loyalist, totally sees Akshay in the role. Speaking to a media source he said: “Akshay is the Mr Clean of India. His image goes well with the image of the New Shining India.” Akshay Kumar, who will be seen in the movie, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha recently met with the Prime Minister to discuss the film and their efforts to promote Pm’s pet project, Clean India Mission. Cbfc Chief Pahlaj Nihalani also added: “I can’t think of anyone better to play our Prime Minster than Akshay. He has a spotless image of an idealist and visionary. And look at the kind of work he’s doing. Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and Padman are the cinema of social reform that Guru Dutt and V Shantaram were associated with. Also, Akshay has risen from humble working class beginnings to become a national star, just like Modiji. We are certainly looking at a strong possibility of Akshay playing Modiji.”...

Whether it's a film documenting Arvind Kejriwal's journey from "aam aadmi" to controversial politician or a movie on former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh -- the Indian film censor body now wants NOCs from top politicians for clearing movies based on real life figures, much to the dismay of filmmakers.
