Yes, everyone’s favourite hobbit Elijah Wood steps into the shoes of Joe Spinelli as the deranged Frank, owner of a quasi-abandoned mannequin store and all-round creepy dude who, to the outside world, seems like a typical loner. Elijah Wood's huge eyes and boyish face offer a certain cherubic purity to a director in search for a hopeful protagonist -- which means that, twisted and inverted, they also present a potential nightmare. Best known for his work in The Lord of the Rings trilogy as idealistic and determined hobbit Frodo, Wood is subverting that image in Maniac, a remake of the William Lustig-directed 1980 slasher film. Coming courtesy of the Daily Mail, here are the very first images of actor Elijah Wood in the remake of te controversial slasher movie Maniac, which was originally directed by WIlliam Lustig and starred the late Joe Spinelli as Frank Zito, the serial killing maniac of the title. His victim in these photos? She’s played by actress Genevieve Alexandra.
For those unfamiliar with the original, the film follows:
…a serial killer who works at a shop that sells antique mannequins. He finds and stalks victims on the Internet, while suffering from hallucinations that take him back to the past, where he suffered abuse at the hands of his own mother. In his twisted mind, he gets some degree of revenge against his mother with each murder he commits.

There had been plenty of rumours regarding the news, but now Deadline are officially reporting that Lord of the RIngs’ Frodo aka actor Elijah Wood is to follow up his serial killing role in Sin City with another, more infamous serial killer – Frank Zito in a remake of William Lustig’s Maniac…
Now those of you not familiar the controversial Maniac or with the character of Frank Zito, he’s (at least in this remake) a nutjob killer who uses the internet to identify and stalk his victims, spurred on by memories of his abusive mother. The original movie starred Joe Spinelli as Zito in a film which to this day still divides audiences.
