ABC has decided to cancel Home Economics.
The series, which starred Topher Grace, Jimmy Tatro and Cailtin McGee and their “sibling relationship: one in the 1%, one middle-class and one barely holding on.”
Variety reports that the show had been a solid sitcom for the network but had been on the bubble between renewal and cancellation following the season three finale in January.
At the same time, ABC announced that Kaitlin Olson starrer High Potential will join the lineup, and debut in 2024.
The show is based on the French series Haut Potentiel Intellectuel (Hpi), and focuses on a “single mom with an exceptional mind, whose unconventional knack for solving crimes leads to an unusual and unstoppable partnership with a by-the-book seasoned detective (Daniel Sunjata).”
Following Home Economics‘ cancellation, there’s only one more show still on the bubble.

In what may be the first of many big delays in this dual-strike era, ABC has decided to hold High Potential, its new, Kaitlin Olson-led detective drama, for fall of next year.
In the wake of the WGA strike being settled but SAG-AFTRA still at the hypothetical bargaining table, there has been speculation that the broadcast networks may opt to forego fast-tracking abbreviated seasons of 13 (or far fewer episodes) that dribble out in late winter/spring and instead sit tight and launch full, robust seasons next fall.

“Home Economics” has been canceled at ABC after three seasons.
The comedy series, which is based on the life of writer and executive producer Michael Colton, revolved around the heartwarming yet super uncomfortable and sometimes frustrating relationship between three adult siblings: one who’s in the one percent, one who’s middle class and one who’s barely holding on.
The series starred Topher Grace, Caitlin McGee, Jimmy Tatro, Karla Souza and Sasheer Zamata and featured Shiloh Bearman, Jordyn Curet, Chloe Jo Rountree and JeCobi Swain. Grace also executive produced alongside Eric and Kim Tannenbaum of The Tannenbaum Company. Jason Wang also served as a coexecutive producer.
“Home Economics” is a coproduction between Lionsgate and ABC Signature.
In addition, ABC will shift the premiere of its upcoming drama series “High Potential” to fall 2024.

ABC has canceled its comedy Home Economics — one of just two shows from the network’s 2022-23 slate that was still in limbo — after three seasons.
Additionally, ABC has pushed High Potential, a crime drama starring Kaitlin Olson, to a fall 2024 debut after initially ordering it for this season. Dual strikes by writers (which ended this week) and actors during the summer and fall have caused significant shuffling of broadcast network schedules already, and there will likely be more moves as the window for producing new episodes for 2023-24 tightens.
Home Economics had the smallest Nielsen-measured audience among the five ABC comedies that aired during the regular September-to-May season in 2022-23. It averaged 2.92 million viewers per episode over seven days, along with a 0.55 rating among the key ad demographic of adults 18-49 (figures don’t include streaming). ABC Signature and Lionsgate Television produced the series, which revolves around three adult siblings (Topher Grace,...

ABC has canceled the comedy series “Home Economics” after three seasons, Variety has learned. In addition, the new series “High Potential” starring Kaitlin Olson is now slated to debut in fall 2024.
“Home Economics” aired its third season finale in January of this year, which will now serve as its series finale. The series was one of just two ABC shows that remained on the bubble, with the other being the spinoff “The Rookie: Feds.”
“Home Economics” was a solid performer for ABC but never quite a breakout. ABC picked up the show for a 13 episode third season but then declined to expand the order beyond that. Fans of the show were given a glimmer of hope over the summer when ABC reportedly extended the casts’ options, meaning they were still considering a fourth season, but it ultimately did not come to pass.

ABC is making some changes to its lineup following the resolution of the writers strike.
Comedy Home Economics has been canceled after three seasons, and new drama High Potential has been moved to fall 2024.

The major broadcast networks are trying very hard this year to do what they do best – create franchise drama series built around the adventures of larger-than-life characters.
Kathy Bates, Kaitlin Olson, Carrie Preston and Shanola Hampton are among the female actors hoping to click as distinctive protagonists with new series in the 2023-24 season. Bates will bring to life a next-generation “Matlock,” while Preston limns a new chapter for Elsbeth Tascioni, the attorney character she has played on and off on CBS’ “The Good Wife” and Paramount+’s “The Good Fight” since 2010.
This is good news for the hundreds of international television buyers heading to Los Angeles for next week’s LA Screenings market. Another welcome development is that the largest media congloms are now on a big push to reopen their doors to third-party buyers, after a few years of holding back the biggest shows for in-house streaming services.

ABC has handed Drew Goddard’s pilot High Potential, starring Kaitlin Olson, a series order.
The pickup is not surprising; the drama, based on the popular French detective series Hip (High Intellectual Potential) has been the clear frontrunner among ABC’s crop of 2023 pilots.
It is the only pilot ABC is making a decision ahead of its upfront. The remaining five, dramas The Good Lawyer, The Hurt Unit and Judgment, and comedies Keeping it Together (fka Drop-Off) and Public Defenders, remain in contention.
Networks already have been shifting toward year-round development and have not been doing all of their pilot decisions before upfronts. With the writers strike this year, they are even more cautious, taking a wait-and-see approach given the financial commitment and logistical issues associated with a new series order if the work stoppage stretches over several months. Karma comes back to bite in "Power Book II: Ghost" season three as yet another major character meets their end. In episode five, "No More Second Chances," Lorenzo (Berto Colón) meets his inevitable end after his wife, Monet (Mary J. Blige), finally avenges her son Zeke's death by getting back at his actual killer. The Tejada patriarch may have thought he was in the clear after he framed a Tgt gang member for Zeke's murder, whom Monet killed previously, but all his lies eventually catch up to him - and an unexpected family member (that's not Monet) turns out to be responsible for his tragic demise.
As viewers know, Lorenzo's fate has been decided since "Power Book II"'s action-packed season two finale, as he accidentally murders Zeke by mistaking him for Monet's ex, Mecca (Daniel Sunjata). Lorenzo's oldest son, Cane (Woody McClain), eventually figures out what he did, and...

Another week, another major player on "Power Book II: Ghost" meets a tragic fate - though many viewers probably saw this one coming. The Company You Keep is hitting its stride.
The series has been strong from the get-go, but they've turned a corner here and turned the narrative a bit on its head, as The Company You Keep Season 1 Episode 4 saw one-half of the central pairing finding out one hell of a secret.
That's right. Charlie now knows his girlfriend is a CIA agent. And he handles it a lot better than expected.
I was Way off about who took Charlie at the end of The Company You Keep Season 1 Episode 3, mainly because I didn't believe it was time for the series to bring this element in.
But it works here in an unexpected way because it immediately ups the urgency on so many levels and adds a lot more drama, which sets this series on a totally new trajectory.
When I tell you, I audibly gasped when they revealed that the CIA had taken Charlie!

Spoiler Alert: The following story reveals major plot points from the Season 3 premiere of Starz’s Power Book II: Ghost.
Power Book II: Ghost dropped its third season premiere on Friday titled “Your Perception, Your Reality” and as expected, it’s filled with sadness and frustration following the tragic events of last season.
Monet (Mary J. Blige) is really going through it following the murder of her son Zeke (Daniel Bellomy). She’s lost her way and healing can only begin by her avenging his death—an eye for an eye. Being that her husband Lorenzo (Berto Colon) shot down Zeke accidentally in a case of mistaken identity, things are plenty complicated.
In the meantime, Monet is so enveloped in grief that she neither notices the internal struggle going on in the family nor that there’s a new baddie in town named Noma (Caroline Chikezie) who is searching for...

The Tejada family is reeling from a major loss in "Power Book II: Ghost" season three, but Monet only has one thing on her mind: revenge. The cold-hearted queenpin's (Mary J. Blige) world shattered to pieces in season two's shocking finale when her nephew son Zeke was shockingly killed by Monet's husband, Lorenzo (Berto Colon), unbeknownst to her. Now she's only concerned with hunting down the person who took her firstborn away. But Blige tells Popsugar that her character's blind-revenge mission in season three, which premiered on March 17, will only put her "in a place where it compromises everything" later down the line.
It's clear that Monet's grief journey this season affects everyone around her, including her three kids - Cane (Woody McClain), Dru (Lovell Adams-Gray), and Diana (Latoya Tonodeo) - but especially Diana, who unknowingly set off the chain of events that led to Zeke's tragic death.

Good news, "Power Book II: Ghost" fans. After what feels like forever, the hit spinoff's third season finally has a premiere date - which means we're one step closer to finding out what happens after season two's dramatic cliffhanger finale. Additionally, on Dec. 15, Starz unveiled all-new details about season three, including a short teaser that shows Michael Rainey Jr.'s Tariq getting blood on his hands (literally) as secrets, lies, and more trouble threaten to shake his world up yet again.
