Led Zeppelin’s classic-rock standard “Stairway To Heaven,” John Lennon’s peace anthem “Imagine,” Madonna’s 1984 breakthrough album Like A Virgin and John Denver’s signature tune “Take Me Home, Country Roads” are among the works added today to the U.S. National Recording Registry.
The Library of Congress announced the newcomers, a roster that also includes Mariah Carey’s modern holiday classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You” and the original 1985 theme from the Super Mario Bros. video game. The latter becomes the first music from a video game to enter the registry.
In all, 25 albums, singles and other recordings were added to the roster, representing a time span of more than a century. See the complete list below.

Glue a wig to your head and put Eminem on speed dial because it's Elton John week on "American Idol X: Ballads Or Bust."
The Top 11 returned to primetime because Casey Abrams was saved last week. ("Saved" in the "Idol" sense, mind you. Lord knows if he's accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.) Producers were keen on trumping up the drama as much as possible, even going so far as recapping last week's results show with a graphic that mimicked a screenplay. "Hope has been renewed. But no more second chances," the Courier font typed out. Because if there's one thing us diehard "Idol" freaks love, it's having Nigel Lythgoe imply that last week's intense results were manufactured by a writer. Whoops!
The Top 11 also stopped by Entertainment Weekly for a photo shoot. Some of them even got makeovers. All that was missing from this "America's Next Top Model...

The legendary blues singer Koko Taylor once recorded a song titled “I Can Love You Like A Woman or I Can Fight You Like a Man.” That could have been the theme song for this cool and gritty homage to both grindhouse movies and revenge flicks, written and directed by Israel Luna and available on DVD from Breaking Glass Pictures. When the film debuted, it set off howls of outrage from the transgender community who felt it misrepresented them. Well, to paraphrase one of the best lines from the very funny script, “Let’s get some balloons for your pity party, bitch.”...

Los Angeles - Blues queen Koko Taylor has died at the age of 80 after complications from surgery, her record label announced Thursday. Taylor died Wednesday at the Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago two weeks after undergoing an operation aimed at stopping gastrointestinal bleeding, said a statement from her record company Alligator Records. Though not widely known to mainstream music fans, Taylor had a five-decade stint at the top of the blues music scene thanks to her powerful voice and relentless energy, which saw her nominated seven times for a Grammy, winning once in 1984. Her most acclaimed work included songs like Wang Dang Doodle, What Kind of Man is This and I Got What It Takes.
