“Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” was the big winner at the 50th annual Annie Awards, winning five categories in the award show that honors the best in animation. Fellow Oscar-nominees “Marcel the Shell With Shoes On” and “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” won three and two awards, respectively.

Gael García Bernal stars in ‘Cassandro’ (Photo © 2022 Amazon Content Services LLC)
Cassandro, writer/director Roger Ross Williams’ joyous celebration of the indomitable spirit of Saúl Armendáriz, is the perfect vehicle to introduce the Lucha Libre world and its groundbreaking, barrier-busting gay star to a wider audience.
The film catches up with Saúl (played by Gael García Bernal) in the 1980s when he’s wrestling as designated loser El Topo (which translates to The Mole). Saúl’s in a rut, and the only way out is to transform into an exótico. But that transformation would require him to incorporate his homosexuality into a character in front of a large audience that includes his homophobic estranged father. It would also mean he’d be forced to continue to lose since the wrestling world – both in the ring and in the stands – doesn’t embrace homosexuals. Gay wrestlers are mocked and ridiculed and subjected to disgusting sexual slurs.

Nurses, rail workers and Royal Mail staff are being forced to strike. Prices are (still) rising, and the need to pinch pennies for presents is more anxiety-inducing than ever. Enter the BBC’s adaptation of Charlie Mackesy’s The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse. This tale of love and hope is half an hour of unmitigated joy.
With Mackesy’s sketched animation, you’d be forgiven for thinking this was one for the kids. But bundled within the snowy scenes are messages for all ages. “You fell, but I’ve got you,” the Horse tells the Boy at one point. If you’re already familiar with the book, this understated adaptation brings the tale...

Author and illustrator Charlie Mackesy didn’t necessarily set out to write a book, let alone a best-seller that has affected the lives of countless people around the world.
“It was a series of drawings that I posted on Instagram, really,” Mackesy, the author behind “The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse,” tells Gold Derby in an exclusive video interview. Mackesy started by posting drawings of a boy and a mole, and their imagined conversations prioritized values like kindness, empathy, and forgiveness. After he added a horse to the mix, Mackesy wrote an interaction that spawned a movement: “What’s the bravest thing you’ve ever said?” the boy asks the horse in Mackesy’s book. “Help,” says the horse in response.
“I think that was the first time I was really shocked by the response worldwide from hospitals and schools, and even the army in Australia, and Canada,...

The end is here, Mole fans! After weeks of suspicions, sabotages, and challenges, we finally got our answer.
The Mole has been uncovered on The Mole Season 6 Episode 10.
It was a somewhat satisfying end to the return of a thrilling competition overall. And the reveal of a winner who put their all into earning money. Seriously, I love this game!
"Who Is The Mole?" ended the game with one final big mission and the burning questions we all wanted to know.
This finale was the moment we had long waited for and jotted our notes about. So, there was a lot of anticipation for what would be revealed.
However, the ending didn't live up to the hype when all was said and done.
The Mole is … Kesi! Will, you won!

We're nearing the end, Mole fans! The players can see the finish line in their sights, but there are still a few more missions left for the chance to win money.
But if The Mole Season 6 Episode 9 was any example, players will have to keep their eyes on each other at all costs.
Between sabotaging from The Mole and the players sabotaging themselves, a complex web of lies was weaved. Everyone is trying to make themselves look suspicious; some are more blatant than others.
"Cold Hard Cash" was a tension-filled round that ramped up the drama and suspicions for all players.
Splitting up the players during a mission gives them all, especially The Mole, more opportunities to sabotage without the others watching. Sometimes it's blatant like Kesi losing the ice blocks, or it's subtle like Will delaying time. It's the small pieces that add up.
When there's a lot of money on the line,...

Manhunt missions are The Mole's bread and butter. These games put everyone to the test with their teamwork and observation skills.
The Sydney search for Avori didn't disappoint on The Mole Season 6 Episode 8.
Plenty of debates and sabotaging hooked us in, and the tension felt like an intense high-stakes game. We needed more of this mission because it left us wanting more!
"The Bird Cage" delivered a thrilling round of intrigue and bold sabotages.
Whether intentional or not, we were left with so many questions by the end. And we have to reevaluate our suspects to see if they're still top Mole possibilities.
The mission raised the stakes, albeit with a small prize hanging over their heads. You got a real sense of how complex and layered these challenges could be, especially when one decision could lose it for everyone.
Plus, the players didn't hold back on the drama.

Sabotage was the name of the game during The Mole Season 6 Episode 6. Whether intentional or not, the shadiness was overflowing.
Suspicions are at an all-time high based on some of the moves made by the players.
Just when you thought certain players were staying in the background, they came out in full force to rise up the suspects' list. And others found their way moving down the list at a record pace.
"Mountain Mole" was a mission-heavy round for The Mole Season 6.
Nearly everything about the structure of the episode focused on the players taking part in the challenge. The dialogue, the suspicions, and the sabotage hinged on the rappelling game. Everything else was simply peppered in.
This type of round lives and dies by the excitement of the mission.
While it wasn't the most complex mission, it delivered an upbeat challenge that hooked us. And the surrounding events like...

The group's luck needs a change of pace. Something has got to give for them to win money.
Between the trust test and the endurance, every mission on The Mole Season 6 Episode 5 was an uphill battle.
A challenging time for the players yet an easy day for The Mole. It's another enjoyable and thrilling episode for us at home.
"Human Lie Detector" captured the essence of the counting clock trope that The Mole does so beautifully well.
The tension ramps up considerably whenever there's a deadline for the players to complete their goal. And when there's a hurdle that splits them up, we can tell which players rise to the occasion and which ones fall.
Sometimes, it's when they're tempted by an offer they can't pass up that hooks us in.
Suspicious behavior, diverging paths, and enticing deals were all on the table. Just like The Mole Season 6 Episode 2, the...

Money talks, but the recent moves on The Mole Season 6 Episode 4 have left us speechless. Were you just as surprised as we were?
These contestants are hemorrhaging money at an alarming rate. If they don't do something quick, they'll end up with nothing.
However, some of the deals they faced weren't worth the reward or the price.
"Bank Heist" was a strong round that kept me on the edge of my seat.
Complex challenges, suspicious behavior, a shocking betrayal, and a lofty deal were some of the pieces that made one exciting pie. The sum of all its parts showcased what The Mole can deliver in espionage and mind games.
And just when we thought the group was getting back on track, a wrench would get thrown into the plans.
The game can only go up for the players. As viewers, we came out as the winners with plenty of intrigue and drama.

How far would you go to get information? That's the big question weaved throughout The Mole Season 6 Episode 3.
When we think the players are working together as a team, the pressure of the game rears its ugly head.
The Mole is deliciously fun and addictive. Come on, you would've taken the deal, right?! Or did your integrity match the group?
"Knowledge Is Power" was an exciting moral dilemma-style round for the players. Even the moments carried over from The Mole Season 6 Episode 2 matched the theme.
The players want to win the game; that much is pretty obvious. But how far will they go to push themselves ahead?
We finally were introduced to The Mole's elements of moral deals, and blatant sabotages.
Did she ditch it? She ditched it?!

Talk about a close call!
Each mission on The Mole Season 6 Episode 2 successfully delivered anticipation and nerves. Everything came down to the wire; we didn't have a moment to breathe.
The second episode ramped up the excitement and gave us plenty to love about The Mole, especially if you were on the fence before now.
"Taking No Prisoners" felt true right to its name. The round didn't hold back on serving a big plate of action, drama, and paranoia.
If you wanted to get a good sense of what The Mole can deliver, this was the round for you.
Starting with an elimination was a good call. It kicked off the round with a bang, and The Mole Season 6 Episode 1 was already jam-packed with stuff to cover. Carrying over the elimination helped to give some breathing room.
Plus, Osei got to appear in another episode for his short time on the show.

The Mole is back, baby!
It's been nearly 14 years since the franchise aired its last episode in the U.S. The Mole is one of the Og's in reality TV, and it's criminally underrated as one of the best/most addictive competitions to get you hooked.
Now, The Mole Season 6 Episode 1 is back with a sleek new look and 12 new players competing for the chance to win money. But more importantly, it's bringing out that big burning question: Who is The Mole?
One thing you'll notice during "Are You The Mole?" is the slight aesthetic shift compared to previous seasons in the franchise.
The Mole is still playing with the themes of espionage and betrayal. The background music plays with a crime noir influence, which has been a positive for the franchise. It makes us feel like James Bond, Sherlock Holmes, or Dick Tracy trying to hunt down an evil spy.

A refresh for a reboot. That's what Netflix's The Mole is getting with its new host, Alex Wagner, who will officially be the face of the rebooted series. The classic competition show, which is based on a Belgian series named De Mol, originally aired on ABC between 2001 to 2008. The show was previously headlined by Anderson Cooper. Much like its predecessor, the new iteration will follow "twelve players as they work together in challenges to add money to a pot that only one of them will win at the end," according to the streamer. "Among the players is one person who has secretly been designated 'the Mole,'" the description continued, "and...

One of the most iconic reality series will return next month.
Netflix confirmed Thursday that its highly-anticipated reboot of The Mole will premiere on October 7.
The series will span 10 episodes, but not all the episodes will be available at once.
The streamer is adopting the same rollout strategy it has done for some of its other competitive reality series.
The new take will be hosted by Alex Wagner (Alex Wagner Tonight).
Wagner also executive produced The Circus and was a contributing writer at The Atlantic.
Additionally, she is the author of Futureface, a critically-acclaimed memoir about identity and immigration.
"The Mole is a high-stakes competition series and in this reimagined version, twelve players work together in challenges to add money to a pot that only one of them will win at the end," the logline reads, adding:

Much has been made about the stunning decision by Warner Bros. Discovery to shelve the 90 million-dollar DC superhero film "Batgirl" ahead of its anticipated debut on HBO Max. As it stands, the newly-minted powers that be at the studio (including CEO David Zaslav) saw fit to use a "purchase accounting" maneuver to write off the movie and not carry the losses in a limited-timeframe tax loophole. While reports on whether the film tested well or not have been mixed, the move stands as a stain on the Warners reputation and will surely put talent off of working with the studio knowing their creative efforts might never see the light of day.
Dumping a film from release permanently is a rare move by major studios, although not unheard of. In 2007 director Beeban Kidron ("Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason") began shooting the British counterculture drama "Hippie Hippie Shake" starring Cillian Murphy...

Netflix is adding another reality competition. The streaming service has rebooted The Mole, with the 10 episodes set to premiere this fall. The competition series sees 12 players working together in challenges to add money to a pot that only one of them will win at the end. Among the players is one who has secretly been designated “the Mole” and is tasked with sabotaging the group’s money-making efforts. In the end, one player will outlast their competition and expose the Mole to win the prize pot. The series is based on the Belgian format, De Mol, which was created by Bart De Pauw, Michel Vanhove, Michiel Devlieger, and Tom Lenaerts. It has aired 10 seasons, beginning in 1998 and has been hosted by Michiel Devlieger and Gilles De Coster. The United States’ first version of it came on ABC in 2001, with five seasons airing between 2001 and 2004 and in 2008. Its hosts included Anderson Cooper,...
