Australian comedy Kath & Kimderella has posted $1.99 million in its opening weekend at cinemas.
The film, based on the popular TV series characters created by Jane Turner and Gina Riley, was shown across 285 screens, giving it a solid screen average of $7013. Including previews, the Roadshow-distributed film has grossed $2.19 million in total.

The film comes a decade after the show's launch in Australia and three years after the failed American remake of the show began on NBC in 2008.

Welcome back friends! I’m a little hyper from sleep deprivation having stayed up all night watching the UK election coverage – more on that later. For now I’m keeping myself upbeat by bopping along to the new track from Scissor Sisters. Have you heard it? It’s ridiculous – in a good way. It features booming poetic vocals from Sir Ian McKellen. Yes, Gandalf goes disco-trance!
Lead singer Jake Shears and Sir Ian often party together, so Jake asked the veteran gay actor to contribute to new track “Invisible Light.” They actually took a bunch of recording equipment to McKellen’s dressing room when he was performing in the brilliant West End production of Waiting for Godot.
It looks as though the flamboyant pop group have their edge back, after a rather tame second album. They make quite a statement with their album cover – the taught buttocks of ballet dancer...

The new forensic doc "Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son about His Father" is a hot-to-the-touch ignition flame for an unsolvable aesthetic debate between intellect and empathy, film-unto-itself and humanity, self-justifying culture and the life it's supposed to augment, art and love. It is in some ways a deplorable film, and a seriously compromised documentary, and yet it burns your heart. The movie's misjudgments almost become its qualities, because they are birthed out of unregulated passion and outrage; as a non-fiction film, it does not constitute an argument but a wail of grief. I had misgivings about the way director Kurt Kuenne made the film from the very beginning, but "Dear Zachary" nonetheless opened my oldest wounds, and I bled.
Kuenne was a lifelong best friend to one Andrew Bagby, a family practitioner who in 2001, at 28, was gunned down by his girlfriend in a Pennsylvania parking lot. As we see in copious detail,...

We recently reported that NBC’s remake of the Australian original Kath and Kim received poor reviews after being called “jaw-dropping awful” and having “no substance” whatsoever. The Popwatch blog on Entertainment Weekly even criticized it the show, saying, “In translating the cult hit for a stateside audience, the creators of Kath & Kim have stripped the show of its essence and edge. Overly slick, it lacks the grit and wit of the original.”
While most of you already labeled this show as a huge failure, NBC is fighting back by giving the show a full season order.
NBC’s Kath and Kim, which stars Molly Shannon and Selma Blair as the titular characters, has been picked up for a full season. While some TV critics see this as a bad decision made by the network, it will prove to be a cash windfall for the Australian creators of the show,...

While freshmen shows are eagerly anticipating their full season orders, some have already succeeded in landing a season, or at the very least, more episodes. NBC has gone ahead to order a full season of Kath and Kim despite its mediocre ratings. In fact, the network recently expressed their thoughts on the American rendition of the Australian original created by Gina Riley, Jane Turner and Rick McKenna, saying that it is one of those shows which they truly “believe in.”
Meanwhile, another network has stepped forward to bless a show for another additional episodes order. On Friday, ABC ordered seven more episodes of Samantha Who?, which stars Christina Applegate as the titular character.
The call came following Monday's satisfactory ratings of 9.6 million viewers and a 2.7 rating among the 18-49 adult demographic. The show managed to average a steady 10.5 million viewership, with a 2.8 rating in the 18-49 adult demographic. Moreover, since its premiere,...

In August, BuddyTV gave you a Fall Review, giving you a sneak peek into the returning and new shows that will hit the airwaves this season. One of those shows is NBC’s Kath and Kim, which premieres on October 9 at 8:30pm. Unfortunately for most viewers, the TV critics are at it again, releasing their reviews and spoiling all the fun for us.
For those who wouldn’t want to be swayed, read no further because there may be bad news for those who are looking forward to NBC’s Kath and Kim, which stars Molly Shannon as Kath Day, Selma Blair as Kim Day, John Micheal Higgins as Phil Knight and Mikey Day as Craig Baker. After a lengthy search, NBC has zeroed in on Selma Blair to star opposite Molly Shannon in its comedy pilot Kath and Kim.
Blair is in negotiations to play Kim in the Reveille/Universal Media Studios project, which was put on the fast track in June when Reveille's Ben Silverman and Teri Weinberg joined NBC as co-chairman and executive vp, respectively.
Based on the hit Australian series "Kath & Kim," the NBC comedy focuses on the dysfunctional relationship between Kath (Shannon) and her daughter Kim (Blair).
Casting the title characters has been considered crucial to the success of the show. When the project was first picked up to pilot by NBC in January 2007, it was pushed to summer because of difficulties casting the leads.
Michelle Nader, who penned the most recent pilot script, is exec producing Kath with original series creators Gina Riley and Jane Turner as well as Rick McKenna.
Following her breakthrough roles on the WB Network comedy series Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane and in the feature Cruel Intentions, CAA-repped Blair went on to co-star in such movies as The Sweetest Thing and Legally Blonde.
She next reprises her role as Liz Sherman in Hellboy II: The Golden Army and will appear opposite Antonio Banderas in My Mom's New Boyfriend.
