Carlos 'Patato' Valdés was born on November 4, 1926 in Havana, Cuba. He was an actor, known for Dopamine (2003), The Cosby Show (1984) and Calle 54 (2000). He was married to Julia. He died on December 4, 2007 in Cleveland, Ohio, USA.
Came to the U.S. in the early 1950s and became a primary figure in Latin jazz. He played with Herbie Mann's group from 1959-1972.
Known for his popular rendition of "The Penguin Dance", he also taught 'Brigitte Bardot' how to mambo in the film ...And God Created Woman (1956) [And God Created Women].
Jazz musician who began his career in Cuba in the 1940a playing the congas with such groups as Sonora Matancera and Conjunto Casino. Later he continued to be active performing with the Conga Kings until his death.
