- Chidren: Moreno Veloso [b. 22 November 1972] and Júlia [b. 7 January 1979 d. 1979], with Andréa Gadelha, and Zeca Veloso [b. 7 March 1992] and Tom Veloso [b. 25 January 1997], with Paula Lavigne.
- Good friend of Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar. Veloso appears briefly in Almodóvar's Talk to Her (2002).
- He lived in London, England for three years in the late 60s - early 70s after he and friend Gilberto Gil were exiled from Brazil by the military dictatorship. Both men returned to Brazil as cultural heroes.
