Played to a similarly remixed version of “Voodoo Child” that accompanied the reveal trailer of Aleksander Bach’s middling Hitman: Agent 47, Paramount has premiered the bat-shit insane new trailer for xXx 3 that heralds The Return of Xander Cage, Vin Diesel’s musclebound adrenaline junkie that clearly hasn’t lost his edges in the intervening years since the cult actioner of 2002.
Tethered with a January release date – often the dumping ground for Hollywood studios – and a fairly generic, run-of-the-mill trailer, it’s difficult to muster any excitement for xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, and that’s even factoring in the callbacks to Diesel’s breakout as the rogue agent.
Alas, we’ll reserve full judgement until the turn of the year. The Return of Xander Cage boasts a cast that encompasses Bollywood star Deepika Padukone, Toni Collette, the returning Samuel L. Jackson, Furious 7 co-star Tony Jaa, Conor McGregor,...

With Deadpool hitting the interwebs and Fantastic Four gracing theaters, it’s been a busy week for 20th Century Fox, and the studio is capping it all off with a ludicrously violent new trailer for Hitman: Agent 47.
Dropping the remixed “Voodoo Child” track that has been a staple of the film’s marketing pizzaz hitherto, the latest clip opens with Star Trek Into Darkness and American Horror Story‘s Zachary Quinto detailing the near-supernatural abilities of Rupert Friend’s titular assassin. Engineered as the perfect man-made killer, Agent 47 is an emotionless hired gun, capable of cleaning out an entire room of baddies with one arm tied behind his back.
For Aleksander Bach’s Hitman: Agent 47, though, Friend’s one-man army will set out an a mission to dismantle the organization that birthed him in the first place. It’s a plot that will force our protagonist to locate...

Nicolas Cage...
Undoubtedly one of the biggest -- and unique -- actors of his generation, Nicolas Cage got his start in 1982's "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" in a part so small if you blink you'd miss it. Then, after changing his name from Coppola to Cage, the actor's career took off and he's been a leading man ever since.
This week, Cage stars in David Gordon Green's "Joe," as a hot-tempered, but protective ex-con in a role that has critics raving about the actor's restrained performance. Whether or not you're a fan of the intense star, there's no denying he's a cinematic force to be reckoned with.
From his unexpected connection to J.D. Salinger to his questionable dinosaur skull purchase, here are 55 things you probably don't know about Nicolas Cage.
1. Born Nicolas Coppola, the actor chose Cage as his stage name to honor comic book superhero Luke Cage.

Reginald Hudlin and Denys Cowan have been named executive producers on the upcoming Django Unchained animated series.
Set immediately after the events detailed in the movie, Django Unchained The Animated Series will focus on the Reconstruction Era events that led up to his becoming the first black state senator in Mississippi. Like the movie, the emphasis will be placed upon the action elements, although the sons of Django and Broomhilda will play a major role in the plot.
Reginald Hudlin, director of such movies and teevee shows as Psych, The Office, The Bernie Mac Show, Everybody Hates Chris, House Party and – my favorite – Cosmic Slop, was a producer of Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained. He also wrote the DC Comics adaptation of the movie, where his friend and collaborator Denys Cowan provided covers. The season 12 auditions of ‘American Idol’ continued in Baton Rouge with more tone-deaf auditions, soaring soon-to-be stars and, of course, drama between the judges. Let’s hear it for the South, ya’ll!

There were some powerful voices, some downright strange people and obviously more Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey drama. Will the battle of the the big-haired divas ever end? Man, I hope not.

Vertigo has cancelled Dominique Laveau: Voodoo Child. Selwyn Seyfu Hinds and Denys Cowan's ongoing series will conclude with issue #7, the DC Comics imprint's September solicitations have revealed. The comic centred around the titular Dominique Laveau, the heir to the voodoo crown of New Orleans, who becomes embroiled in an investigation of the previous queen's murder. "In her journey from fugitive marked for death to Voodoo Queen, Dominique Laveau has run up against gangstas, gods, ghosts, (more)...

I was worried when I pitched the idea of The Graveyard Shelf that I would run out of things to talk about. Even with my second entry, it was something I was afraid of, but thankfully I was wrong. It's been a busy week here at Shock in the comics division.
I've read and written about quite a few books that you'll be hearing about soon. I've conducted interviews with several notable writers in the comic field - the first of which is up now with Selwyn Hinds of Vertigo's Dominique Lavaeu: Voodoo Child. He's put out a great comic and was a joy to talk to.
Today, I've got a handful of single issues to talk about below if you'll let me. Please let me.

One of the new Vertigo books that hit last month was Dominique Laveau: Voodoo Child.
Set in the post-Katrina New Orleans, it's setting itself up to be an epic full of wonder, thrills, and monsters that we've never seen before in comics.
Like the other Vertigo titles, it was one of my favorite single issue comics of March. I reached out to the writer Selwyn Seyfu Hinds and he graciously accepted to do an interview with us.

I love my job here at Shock. I love getting to see movies and read comics for free and then writing about how awesome or terrible they are, I'm really lucky in that regard. I'm not the first one to tell you this, and you might have already figured this out for yourself, but there's a lot of repetition in the horror genre. I can't even remember how many zombie and vampire comic books I've written about over the past few months, and not to mention how many I'm reading that I don't write about. In that regard, it is always nice to get a genre book that is different, and in this case I do mean different.

Blogomatic3000 were lucky enough to be amongst the few invited to a posh London hotel to take part in the Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance press conference earlier this month where we heard from Hollywood legend Nicolas Cage talk about his role in the new Ghost Rider movie, his relationship with the genre, comics, motorbikes, stunts, shooting in Romania… and a Wicker Man sequel?!
You play both Johnny Blaze and the Ghost Rider was that a major pull for you in regards to signing on to do a sequel?
That was an opportunity to experiment with movement and my state of mind to believe I was this character. It was is actually Brain Taylor who had the idea to do that he was an enormous advocate of it. The first thing I said was, we where in New Orleans, I said can I wear a mask so as not to...

This weekend, "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" is motorcycling to multiplexes across the country. Along with flaming asphalt, it will no doubt leave great controversy in the geekazoid community. Is it a fun B-picture offering a heavy dose of Crazy Nic Cage and frenzied Neveldine/Taylor camerawork? Or is a mess on wheels that makes the first "Ghost Rider" look like "Iron Man"?
I leave it to you to hammer this argument out, but there's one thing that's absolutely for certain: Nicolas Cage's fanboy cred.
The two-time Johnny Blaze doesn't just own an Academy Award statuette; he's got the heart of an unrepentant comic-book nerd, and he doesn't care who knows it. In case you weren't aware, let us detail the ways in which Nic Cage is Hollywood's A-list dork.

The folks over at io9 have posted an exclusive six-page first look at the upcoming supernatural comic book series to be published by Vertigo, Dominique Laveau: Voodoo Child. Vertigo has long been a good source for supernatural and occult-themed titles, such as Sandman and Hellblazer, and looks to add another worthy addition to their stable with the upcoming series by author Selwyn Seyfu Hinds and artists Denys Cowan and John Floyd.
New Orleans is the most haunted city in America: a town of centuries-old ghosts and newly drowned spirits; where vampires, voodoo spirits and loups-garous make their home. Ruling over this all are the powerful Voodoo Queens, whose influence stretches into politics, business and crime as they maintain a delicate balance between the mortal and supernatural worlds.
But in the aftermath of Katrina, all that has changed, for someone or something has murdered the Voodoo Queen and most of her court.

Halloween is nearly upon us, and it seems like everywhere you turn someone is hosting a haunted house, hayride, steamboat or some other attraction. The weak of heart can always look forward to the fact that the Halloween season is only about a month long and they can return to life as usual on November 1st. Well, New Yorkers, a new tenant has moved in, and they're planning on scaring the pants off you all year long.
The horror studs behind Las Vegas' Fright Dome have now opened Times Scare in New York City. This is a year-round horror attraction featuring a high-tech theater which houses extreme illusionist, the anti-conjurer, Dan Sperry (who needs to be seen to be appreciated...he's been referred to as a living Tim Burton film), an attraction based on Michael Myers and the Halloween series and not one, but two fully stocked bars for the boozehounds among the gorehounds.

Vertigo has announced Dominique Laveau: Voodoo Child. The DC Comics imprint's new ongoing title will be written by author and journalist Selwyn Seyfu Hinds and illustrated by industry veteran Denys Cowan. The story follows the adventures of the titular character, a half-breed outcast and heir to the Voodoo Queenship of New Orleans. "Lingering on the threshold between history and legend, the home of Mardi Gras and the birthplace of jazz, New Orleans is also known as the most haunted city in America: a town of centuries-old ghosts and new spirits of those drowned by Katrina; where Loup Garous, Vampires and Voodoo Spirits make their home," said Vertigo on its Graphic (more)...

London, Aug 17: The frock coat worn by legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix on the night of his death is expected to sell for 25,000 pounds at an auction.
The Voodoo Child artist, who had worn the jacket at a gathering at the Lord’s home in Notting Hill, London, on September 17, 1970, accidentally left the custom-made garment at friend’s house hours before he choked to death on his vomit, the Telegraph reported.
The unnamed eccentric Lord kept hold of the military grey jacket until he gave it to a pop memorabilia expert as payment for valuing his collection of rock items in the 1990s.

Right now, I'm disturbed by a hubbub outside the window. A whopping great tractor is trying and failing to park in a cul-de-sac just over the road. No great surprise about that in theory – except that I've seen bigger cul-de-sacs in Trumpton. Tractor guy's already getting grief from a couple of creaky old codgers waving their fists aloft like he's just threatened to crush their cottages to rubble with his clunky vehicle.
What's this got to do with Doctor Who, I hear you cry. Well now, it just so happens that I've reached the last story of the 2007 season, no less: the equivalent of an old school six-parter. Mike Fleming is reporting that the estate of late rocker Jimi Hendrix has turned down a promising pitch for a Paul Greengrass directed biopic of the American Icon that would have starred Hurt Locker actor Anthony Mackie in the title role.
The rejected package, which included financial clout from Legendary Pictures and a commitment from the talent to film next year, was turned down because the family estate feared a high-profile film might hurt back catalogue sales. (If you believe that, you’ll believe anything).
The movie is the latest in a long line of potential Hendrix biopics (Will Smith & Eddie Murphy have previously tried, among others) that have been snuffed out by Experience Hendrix, an estate that heavily protects the singer’s memory and the four influential albums he made in his short but productive 27 years of life.

In her music video "Uh Huh" Juliette Lewis sashays around with a bouquet of colorful balloons, smiling radiantly. Her mood seems lighter than air. It's an incongruous musical moment in her rock grrrl career -- in the newest video "Terra Incognito" she's back to her old in-your-face provocations -- but the softer side was lovely to see.
And why shouldn't Juliette's mood be lighter these days? After years of touring to build a music career while doing thankless cameos in mainstream comedies, could it be that filmmakers are finally on the verge of rediscovering her unique gift?
Juliette Lewis has taken up more than her share of my actressy headspace ever since I first heard her inimitable voice in the opening frames of Martin Scorsese's Cape Fear (1991). I don't even like narration -- in anything -- and I was instantly enamored.

Sometimes a Case of the Mondays can be cured by a simple tip from an AfterEllen.com reader. Today it came from @jennyfjs who let us know that all of our Monday blues and blahs could be vanquished by a little something called Katee Sackhoff and Tricia Helfer riding their motorcycles to change the world.
Earlier this month, Helfer and Sackhoff launched "The Acting Outlaws," a website where they're documenting their 2,500 mile ride from Los Angeles to New Orleans to raise awareness and funds for the oil spill in the Gulf.
Acting Outlaws has also partnered with the Gulf Restoration Network in creating a contest which allows the grand prize winner the opportunity to interview both Katee and Tricia for the Acting Outlaws and Grn websites. The album, recorded by The Jimi Hendrix Experience and released in 1967, already has a place carved out in rock and roll history, but it will snag a unique honor for "Rock Band" as well, since it will push the total count of available tracks past the 2,000 mark.

Say what you will about John Mayer, but underneath all the tabloid noise and nonsense, the man knows how to play a live show. More importantly, he understands his public perception and how to work it to his advantage, which he did with tremendous, self-deprecating aplomb during his concert in Irvine, California on Tuesday night (August 24).
After warming up the pleasantly diverse crowd (especially diverse for Irvine) with tracks from his multi-platinum albums Battle Studies, Room for Squares and Continuum, he threw in a little Jimi Hendrix (complete with crazy guitar solo action) in the form of "Voodoo Child."
Mayer followed those tunes with the standard, "How you feeling, Irvine?" crowd pleasantries, but then took a few minutes to showcase the aforementioned aplomb, with a highly amusing monologue that segued into "Perfectly Lonely."
He began this little interlude by thanking the crowd for his current financial security.

The 1970 track beat Guns N’ Roses classic ‘Sweet Child O’Mine’ – which topped the poll five years ago – to the top spot in the poll by website MusicRadar.com, with ‘Whole Lotta Love’ by Led Zeppelin coming third. Just two songs from the past decade made the list; Muse’s 2001 hit ‘Plug In Baby’ at 11 and The White Stripes’ ‘Seven Nation Army’, which was released in 2003, at 15. MusicRadar.com's editor-in-chief Mike Goldsmith said: “Nearly 40 years after his untimely death, Jimi Hendrix is still the undisputed heavyweight champion of rock guitar. “Of the current generation of six-string stars, only Jack White of The White Stripes and Muse frontman Matt Bellamy feature in the higher echelons of our list. No surprise given both Bellamy and White share - or have inherited - Hendrix's unique blend of experimental instincts and white-knuckle showmanship. “Above all though, our poll seems to indicate one thing - in 2009, classic rock still rules.
