Amazon MGM Studios has partnered with The Wonder Project to produce faith-based films and series, Variety has learned. Under the deal, Amazon has ordered the series “House of David” for Prime Video.
The Wonder Project was recently launched by veteran producer Jon Erwin and entertainment executive Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten. Dallas Jenkins, the creator and producer-director of the hit Biblical series “The Chosen,” is a large shareholder and special advisor to the company.
“When we met with Jon, Kelly, and Dallas, their clear and passionate vision for The Wonder Project and their ambition to nurture universal stories of love, triumph, and spirituality moved us.” said Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios. “We are very excited about the scope, scale and storytelling involved with ‘House of David’ and look forward to sharing this epic and many others with our global Prime Video customers.”

Amazon MGM Studios is getting spiritual.
The company announced Wednesday that it’s brokered a partnership with the recently formed Wonder Project, which bills itself as an independent studio designed to “develop series and films rooted in spirituality.” The latter is led by veteran producer Jon Erwin (Jesus Revolution) and former Netflix and YouTube exec Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten, and counts The Chosen creator Dallas Jenkins among its largest shareholders and special advisers. As part of the new pact, Prime Video has already ordered its first project, House of David, to series.
Per Amazon, the logline reads: “House of David follows the once-mighty King Saul as he falls victim to his own pride. A prophet prepares to overthrow him — anointing the outcast shepherd boy David as a second king. As Saul’s fury grows, David navigates love, violence and politics in the court of the very man he’s destined to replace.

Amazon MGM Studios is partnering with The Wonder Project to launch House of David, a straight to order series that will stream exclusively on Prime Video.

A dozen years have gone by since the release of director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.’s prequel to John Carpenter’s 1982 classic The Thing (watch the prequel Here). Looking back at the project now, van Heijningen has some regrets over the way the special effects were handled on the film, and that he was never able to make the sequel they had plans for.
Directed by van Heijningen from a screenplay written by Eric Heisserer and based on the short story Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell (using the pen name Don A. Stuart), The Thing 2011 has the following synopsis: After Norwegian researchers discover an alien ship buried in the ice, paleontologist Kate Lloyd joins the team at the isolated Arctic outpost to investigate. She finds an organism that appears to have perished in the crash eons ago but, in fact, is about to awake. Freed from its icy prison,...

Warning: The Thing spoilers jump out of nowhere in this piece!
“The last place you want to be in a storm in Antarctica is locked up with a bunch of Norwegian guys,” Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), a Columbia graduate and vertebrate paleontologist, is warned as she is flown into the tundra surrounding “Thule,” the central research station in The Thing (2011). The sequestered Norse researchers have never seen John Carpenter’s claustrophobic 1982 alien invasion classic, The Thing. After all, director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. and writer Eric Heisserer’s 2011 prequel is set at the Antarctic facility from which the very Thing from outer space splits at the beginning of the ‘82 film. So the newest movie, which is finding a quasi-renaissance on Netflix these days, is a translation of the prior events by Heijningen and Heisserer.

Bad news for vampires: Van Helsing‘s hunt will continue on Syfy, which has ordered a 13-episode fourth season of the Canadian import, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Season 4 will air in 2019.
Jonathan Walker will take over showrunning duties from Neil Labute, who was recently announced as the showrunner for Netflix’s The I-Land. Labute will still be involved with Van Helsing, even penning three scripts for the new season.

Ahead of Van Helsing’s Season 3 finale on Dec. 28, the vampire series has been renewed for a 13-episode fourth season. The pickup comes with a change at the helm as the drama’s writer-executive producer Jonathan Walker takes over as showrunner from Neil Labute. Production is expected to begin early next year.
“Having been in the writing room on Van Helsing since Season 1 I’m excited to take the reins as showrunner from Neil Labute,” Walker said in a statement. “Season 4 will delve deeper into the iconic lore of the vampires and their ultimate goals for this world. New villains will rise along with unexpected heroes joining the fight. We have a fantastic build planned for this season and I’m thrilled to share it with our dedicated fans.”

Van Helsing is returning to Syfy.
The NBCUniversal-owned cable network has picked up a fourth season of the Canadian import, only without showrunner Neil Labute. Instead, Jonathan Walker (Continuum, Wu Assassins) will take over as showrunner for the 13 new episodes that will air in 2019.
Labute will still be involved with season four and will write three scripts for the series while juggling his time as showrunner on Netflix's The I-Land, starring Kate Bosworth, Alex Pettyfer and Natalie Martinez. That series also hails from Van Helsing producers Nomadic Pictures.

If every spring in New York means that when greenery finally blooms on scrawny trees Judith Light assumes her rightful place on Broadway, life would be pretty wonderful.
Trees finally blossomed this week, and Light is back on stage, in the very funny "The Assembled Parties" at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre, so life is pretty wonderful.
"The Assembled Parties" likely works best on this island, and to those who get the jokes with Yiddish words. Still, Richard Greenberg has written a brilliant play full of the sort of dialog that feels sharp enough to have come from someone who drank at the Algonquin Round Table.
This has the feel of old New York, set in a rambling upper West Side apartment. It opens in the kitchen as Julie (Jessica Hecht, Broadway's "Harvey," TV's "Breaking Bad") is cooking and chatting with Jeff (Jeremy Shamos, Broadway's "Clybourne Park," TV's "Fringe"), her son Scotty's pal.

The Thing (2011) Film Review, a movie directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. and starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, Eric Christian Olsen, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ulrich Thomsen, Kim Bubbs, Stig Henrik Hoff, Jonathan Walker, and Carsten Bjornlund.
One could say that The Thing (2011) is like the Halloween remake and the Star Wars prequels: the original is better than new incarnation in almost every way. Like the Halloween remake, what was copied over into this The Thing from John Carpenter’s original film was done better the first time and what material was originated in this film should have been expanded upon. Like the Star Wars prequels, The Thing should have created its special effects in the same manner as the original film instead of going the hyper real CGI route. New 'The Thing' movie delivered lots of thrills, extreme graphic violence & more. Universal Pictures recently released their new, very graphic/thriller, flick "The Thing" into theaters this weekend. I just got through watching it,and I thought it was very disturbing, yet entertaining. The violence was very graphic. I mean, they really left nothing to the imagination with this one. They showed me stuff that usually only surgeons get to see. The movie stars: Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, Jonathan Lloyd Walker, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Eric Olsen, Ulrich Thomsen, Paul Braunstein, Trond Espen Selm, and Jorgen Langhelle. In the flick, Dr. Sander Halvorson invited everyone on a field trip to dig up a very dangerous alien creature deep in Antarctica on a marooned colony. Little did they know, it would be their last trip. Apparently, this creature was supposed to be a major scientific discovery, and Dr. Halvorson was elated about it.

The Thing‘s plot synopsis: “Antarctica: an extraordinary continent of awesome beauty. It is also home to an isolated outpost where a discovery full of scientific possibility becomes a mission of survival when an alien is unearthed by a crew of international scientists. The shape-shifting creature, accidentally unleashed at this marooned colony, has the ability to turn itself into a perfect replica of any living being. When it comes to horror, nobody did it like John Carpenter, but even he was limited by 1982 technology. The new Red Band trailer for The Thing shows what he could have done with this film if he had the special effects of today.
The Thing, starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, Jonathan Lloyd Walker and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, is a remake of the John Carpenter film and it looks like the writers had an easy job with this one because I don’t see too many changes as far as plot goes. We still have the team of researchers in the frozen wasteland, still have the dead alien that turns out to not be dead, and we still have paranoia run amok as the team learns that the creature has the ability to impersonate any of them. Heck, we still even have the dog.
