Another “Gavin and Stacey” Christmas episode is officially happening.
James Corden and Ruth Jones, the creators and stars of the classic British sitcom, took to Instagram on Friday to share a photo of them holding the script for an episode titled “the finale.”
“Some news… It’s official!!!” Corden and Jones wrote. “We have finished writing the last ever episode of ‘Gavin and Stacey.’ See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James.”
Premiering in 2007, “Gavin and Stacey” follows the title characters, a boy from Essex and a girl from Wales (played by Mathew Horne and Joana Page), as well as Corden’s Smithy and Jones’ Nessa. As the show’s plot description reads, “Gavin and Stacey have been continuing their romance online and by telephone for the last six months. Now they want to be together, but will their friends and family let them?”

Like all the best comedies, Gavin & Stacey became a cultural touchstone in Britain after it launched in 2007.
There are easy ways to measure this, like the hatful of awards it took home, and the step ladder it provided creator James Corden on his way to stardom in the U.S. But there are also the intangible things that swirl around great comedies, like the catchphrases that infiltrate everyday conversation, or the memes that flood your timeline.
Either way, what started as a simple show about a blind date that brings together people from two bewilderingly different backgrounds, has grown into a cherished landmark in UK television history.
It was why, even 12 years on, Corden and Gavin & Stacey‘s co-writer Ruth Jones were still regularly asked if they would ever return to the split worlds of Barry Island and Billericay they created for BBC Three. They found many ways to say “no” — until May 2019 that was,...

★★★☆☆ Sometimes it's the most quiet, unassuming sorts of films that shed light onto the darkest of topics. The modern independent film is fertile land to sow these sorts of stories, the ones that tend to sneak up on the viewer. In High Tide (2015), the plot follows a mother and son on a Linklater-esque 'one day journey' across the Gower coastline of South Wales. As they move through the day as well as the land, old wounds are cut afresh, forcing the pair to find a way to stanch the flow of repressed turmoil as quickly as possible so that they may move on towards redemption. Bethan (Melanie Walters) and her son Josh (Sam Davies) have been cut adrift from each other.

The Voice UK was visited by none other than Gavin & Stacey's Nessa - well, an impersonator named Tara Lewis - when it launched its third series on the weekend.
And although Tara unfortunately couldn't impress Kylie Minogue, her idol Tom Jones or any of the other coaches at the Blind Auditions, the sight of 'Nessa' singing has stuck with us and got us thinking about all the great musical interludes that cropped up during James Corden and Ruth Jones's classic BBC sitcom.
And with news today that Gavin & Stacey could be returning, we can't think of a better time to revisit the show's greatest vocal performances...

The It star Richard Ayoade goes down the irony-heavy route for his directorial debut – but his comedy about a Swansea teenager's love life is also sweet and very funny.
Richard Ayoade probably first came to public attention by appearing in Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, a spoof horror television series by Matthew Holness about a psychogeographically troubled Romford hospital built over the gates of hell. Since then, he has written, directed and acted in TV shows including The Mighty Boosh, Nathan Barley and The It Crowd, and also directed an Arctic Monkeys video. But nothing in his CV prepared me for the confidence and panache of the debut movie feature now being sprung on us.
It's a dark coming-of-age comedy about a lovelorn teenage boy in 1980s Swansea, written and directed by Ayoade, adapted from a novel by Joe Dunthorne, and executive produced by Ben Stiller, who appears in a subliminal cameo.

There are some series that manage to wrap their arms around you and never let go, making you laugh and cry in equal measure. British comedy Gavin & Stacey, which returns to BBC America for its third and final season after way too long of a break, is just one of those series, the sort that makes you laugh and cry in equal measure, filled with characters that you can't get enough of and whom it will be very hard to say goodbye to forever in just a few weeks' time. Revolving around the titular star-crossed lovers, the series--created and written by co-stars James Corden and Ruth Jones--has charted their courtship and marriage over the course of three bittersweet seasons and the reactions of their friends and family to such an unexpected match: Gavin (Mathew Horne) is, after all, an Essex lad while Stacey (Joanna Page) hails from Barry, Wales,...

You could argue that the romance of Gavin & Stacey is a whirlwind, but that depends entirely on whether or not you value the modern relationship-by-proxy. Going for months with nothing but phone and online interactions, Gavin and Stacey decide to meet one fateful evening with their best friends as back-up. What could easily have been played off as just another romantic-comedy drama series, blossoms into a delightful romp in the world of youthful love. Gavin & Stacey: Season One shines for a new series thanks to spot on comedy writing and only a few lackluster episodes here and there.
