Kang the Conqueror first appeared in MCU’s ‘Loki’ Season 1, portrayed by Jonathan Majors as He Who Remains. Since then, the character has appeared in various forms, with the latest being Victor Timely in Loki Season 2.
However, Majors’ career faced a setback when he was arrested and later found guilty of third-degree assault. As a result, he was fired from Disney, leaving the role of Kang the Conqueror open for other actors.
We’ve previously mentioned candidates such as Colman Domingo and John David Washington for the role, but it seems another actor was offered the part of Kang and turned it down. In a recent interview with The Direct, Luke James revealed that he declined the role of Kang but expressed keen interest in portraying another character within the MCU.
“Marvel as a whole? Yes. Kang the Conqueror? No. But I wouldn’t not not take the meeting. There are so many brilliant characters,...

Kang the Conqueror was technically introduced in ‘Loki’ Season 1, played by Jonathan Majors as He Who Remains, since then the character appeared as several variants, the latest one being Victor Timely in Loki season 2.
Since then, Majors’ career took a huge hit when he was arrested and subsequently found guilty of third-degree assault, he was fired from Disney and the role of Kang the Conqueror was up for grabs.
We already reported on several candidates for the role like Colman Domingo and John David Washington, but apparently, one more name was offered the role of Kang and he notably said no. In his recent interview with The Direct Luke James admitted that he passed on the role of Kang but he is absolutely interested in playing another character within the MCU:

Actor Denzel Washington’s son John David Washington added to his resume by starring in the Christopher Nolan sci-fi feature Tenet. John David was already featured in several films by that point, but Washington found Tenet to be one of his son’s biggest films.

It seems Nolan had his eye on John David for a long time. Long before Tenet even went into production, Nolan stumbled onto a few of the actor’s earlier projects. He was more than impressed by what Washington brought to the table. In an interview with Esquire, it was noted that Nolan first became aware of John David after seeing him in the HBO series Ballers. From there, his interest in the actor grew after seeing the premiere of John David’s critically acclaimed film Blackkklansman.

Christopher Nolan’s Tenet was one of the director’s more cerebral works, one that required some level of innovation when it came to the stuntwork. Nolan has been known to make films that routinely push the envelope in one manner or another, delivering a film that has a lot of heart with well-executed scenes, whether it be drama, action, tragedy, or comedy.
Robert Pattinson and John David Washington in Tenet
One of the most innovative scenes that were in Tenet was the reverse fight scene John David Washington participated. While it could have been the case that the director shot the scene the right way forward and then reversed it for the film, Nolan actually wanted the backward fight scene to be choreographed, which Washington revealed, was quite the challenge for the stunt workers, who had been in the film industry for quite some time.

This post contains spoilers for "Tenet."
Time inversions, palindromes, and temporal pincer movements — these are just some of the concepts that contribute to the wonderfully confusing narrative of "Tenet," which is an experience that benefits the most from repeat viewings. The moment a story defies linear comprehension and flits between different points in time, things get a bit tricky, especially within the context of a mission to preserve the past from the future, where time is being reversed for people to move backward. The events in "Tenet" are palindromic, where moments that move forward and backward in time eventually meet to form a closed temporal loop, where every character is seen participating in multiple timelines until the loop is closed.
The key to understanding "Tenet" is inversion, a process achieved when entropy is reversed, allowing a person or object to move backward in time, as opposed to traditional forward progression.

This April sees Zendaya cross a milestone it honestly feels like she should have reached ages ago: a legitimate leading role in a theatrical film. The actor has been one of the biggest stars of Generation Z and a much hyped starlet for years now, and yet a quick glance at her Wikipedia page reveals a shockingly short resume.
The Oakland born star’s adult film career, after a childhood in the Disney Channel machine leading sitcoms like “Shake It Up” and “Kc Undercover,” really only started in 2017, with a brief supporting turn in Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” Opposite her eventual real-life boyfriend Tom Holland, she only had a scant 10 minutes or so of screentime as the sarcastic teen Mj — hardly a star is born moment, despite what the advertising for the film would have you expect.
Zendaya would reprise her role in future Spider-Man films, and her screentime increased with each installment.

Jonathan Majors first appeared in the MCU as Victor Timely in 2021, followed by his role as Kang the Conqueror in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ in 2023, marking the beginning of Phase 5, also known as the Multiverse Saga. However, ‘Quantumania’ didn’t fare well, and shortly after its release, Majors faced legal troubles. Although his lawyers swiftly disproved the allegations, Majors was eventually convicted of third-degree assault and harassment, leading to his dismissal by Disney.

Two prevailing theories emerge: either Majors will be replaced, with John David Washington and Colman Domingo among the potential successors, or the villain will be substituted altogether. Fans have been clamoring for the introduction of characters like Doctor Doom as the primary antagonist for the upcoming phases.

Jonathan Majors debuted in the MCU as Victor Timely back in 2021, and then as Kang the Conqueror in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ in 2023 in what was the first movie of Phase 5, also known as the beginning of the Multiverse Saga. ‘Quantumania’ wasn’t exactly successful, adding insult to injury, soon after the release of the blockbuster movie, the actor behind the villain who was supposed to mark the next few phases of the MCU was arrested. Even though Majors’ lawyers quickly provided evidence that such a thing never took place, the case was far from over, and Majors was eventually found guilty of third-degree assault and harassment and fired by Disney.
Now ever since Jonathan Majors was fired there’s been a lot of talk that Kang has been abandoned altogether, ‘Avengers: Kang Dynasty’ is being referred to as ‘Avengers 5’ at this point. Two main theories still stand,...

Christopher Nolan seems primed for the sort of coronation the Oscars bestow now and again — his film “Oppenheimer’s” sweep of precursor awards has had a sort of lumbering majesty to it, a sense that the grandest spectacle of the year is about to get a commensurate celebration from the Dolby Theatre stage.
There’s a pleasing symmetry to the idea: “Oppenheimer” is not a sentimental favorite from the “Coda” school, or a sweltering, messy emotional high-wire act like “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” It’s a coolly logical piece of work, and it represents the year’s logical choice. It was a drama for adults that made nearly a billion dollars globally, an achievement that’s worth celebrating in part because so few directors get the chance; its ambition is written across every frame. After a series of misses — “Inception” and “Dunkirk” nominated for Best Picture but settling for undercard wins,...

We have seen time and time again just how exceptional a filmmaker Christopher Nolan is when any project that he’s associated with goes on to receive some of the most pristine critical reception seen in years. But other than several behind-the-scenes footage and interviews, we have never seen him making the most of his time in front of the camera.
Tom Hardy and Christopher Nolan on the sets of The Dark Knight Rises
But it seems like lately, the prolific director has started to open up a bit when he is being shot through the lens of a device, which recently saw him trying his hands at some comical quips with fellow filmmaker Denis Villeneuve. In a recent video, we could see Nolan try to crack a simple joke while announcing the re-release of his film Tenet, which despite being very simple, has managed to crack up the fans.

Up on Variety a few months ago, there was an interesting interview with the German distributor of the Expendables and John Wick movies. Fred Kogel, who runs Leonine Studios, noted that all the top action heroes now, Keanu Reeves, Sylvester Stallone, Tom Cruise, and Harrison Ford, are the same ones we had in the eighties and nineties. But with Stallone and Ford in their late seventies, who will be the new action stars when the icons are done with the genre? For his part, Kogel doesn’t believe distributors and studios have done enough to build up a new crop of action heroes, noting that for the older stars, there was “a great deal of identification with the type of the actor, with the physicality of the actor so that you could relate to that.” With CGI-laden superhero movies, Kogel believes that kind of identification is gone. “I think it...

After traveling to dozens of exotic locations around the world to film New Regency’s and 20th Century Studios’ The Creator, director Gareth Edwards made one last trek that was among his most consequential: to Industrial Light & Magic in Northern California. There, he showed a rough cut of the film to the VFX pros who would be tasked with helping him make his $80 million film look like it cost $200 million, turning human actors into robots — no uncanny valley allowed — and creating futuristic cities and secret labs by augmenting real-life locations with visual effects.
Many of the key moments onscreen were filled with temporary text such as “epic Nomad shot,” a reference to the killer space station at the center of the film concerning a war between humans and artificial intelligence.

David Koepp, the original screenwriter of “Jurassic Park” and “The Lost World: Jurassic Park,” will pen the script.
The currently untitled project, scheduled for release on July 2, 2025, will mark the beginning of a fresh storyline in the decades-spanning dinosaur series. It’s still unclear if any previous stars, including Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Neill, Laura Dern or Jeff Goldblum, will return.

From Jedi to dinosaurs. Rogue One director Gareth Edwards has been tapped to helm the new Jurassic World movie after a deal couldn’t be reached with David Leitch.
The new Jurassic World movie will relaunch the franchise with a fresh take, which means that neither Chris Pratt nor Bryce Dallas Howard are expected to return. The original trilogy group consisting of Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill, and Laura Dern isn’t likely to be back either. However, there will be a blast from the past behind the scenes as original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp has signed on to pen the script. The new Jurassic World movie has already been slated for a July 2, 2025 release, which means that Gareth Edwards will likely be getting right to work before the ink has even dried.

Gareth Edwards is in talks to direct Universal’s latest installment of the Jurassic World franchise and to step into shoes that were worn, if ever so briefly, by Bullet Train filmmaker David Leitch.
Universal and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners are moving as fast as hungry velociraptors on the project and have set a July 2, 2025, release date for the creature feature, making it a hot go project.

It became clear to Leitch that his creative input would be minimal due to the project’s fast-tracked status and because the producers wanted to wield a stronger hand after the experiences of Jurassic World: Dominion. Tenet is a 2020 science fiction movie helmed by Christopher Nolan starring John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Dimple Kapadia, Michael Caine, Elizabeth Debicki, and Kenneth Branagh. The director spent five years perfecting the script of the film because of its tricky and complicated idea.
Tenet (2020)
One of the movie’s notable features is the concept alluding to the laws of physics. It rapidly gained a cult following of science fiction enthusiasts because of its exploration of the subjects of time travel and entropy. However, Nolan insisted that Tenet is not a time travel movie so he provided a breakdown of the film for its upcoming re-release in theaters.

You get the feeling from talking to four of the Oscar-nominated members from the sound team of the sci-fi action thriller “The Creator” – supervising sound editor/sound designers Erik Aadahl and Ethan Van der Ryn, sound mixer Ian Voigt and rerecording mixer Tom Ozanich – that they have never been through anything quite like the adventure they just experienced providing the sonics for this feature. It was shot on location in many countries throughout Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Nepal, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos, the director Gareth Edwards eschewing backlot and green screen while recreating the vibe of a small indie production. “We shot it guerilla style, but then fuse all of this technology into what looks and sounds like a $300 million movie but isn’t,” stresses Aadahl.

I think the film critics of the 2000s and 2010s misdiagnosed what kind of filmmaker Christopher Nolan is.
Back in 2010, in the wake of "Inception," The Guardian asked, "Is Christopher Nolan the new Stanley Kubrick?" The director of "2001," "The Shining," and more, Kubrick's masterpieces are the work of a cynical perfectionist. Nolan has been accused of being cold — it doesn't help he's a British gentleman (England was the Manhattan-born Kubrick's adopted homeland) — and his films' layer cake story structures might feel akin to the ambiguity of Kubrick. Nolan admits he is a fan of Kubrick ("Interstellar" does not exist in the world where Nolan isn't inspired by "2001" as a child). Still, to me at least, it's clear that Nolan is more like Steven Spielberg — a populist auteur.
Nolan makes movies that play for a crowd. That's what "The Prestige" is all about, using Victorian-era stage magic as an allegory...

Christopher Nolan delighted cinephiles a few years ago when he revealed that he’s a big fan of the “Fast & Furious” franchise. The director said on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast at the time that he’s “got a very soft spot” for “Tokyo Drift” and praised Justin Lin’s entries in the franchise “as they got crazier and bigger and crazier and bigger and became something else, but something else kinda fun.”
While appearing this week on “The Late Show,” host Stephen Colbert asked Nolan about his enduring love for “Fast & Furious” and admitted that he had never seen any of the movies in the long-running franchise, much to the shock of Nolan.
“I have no guilt about being a fan of the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise,” Nolan proudly stated. “A tremendous action franchise … You’ve never seen any of them? I watch those movies all the time.

Netflix kicked off February with news of the streaming service’s 2024 film slate.
The steamer, which landed 18 Oscar nominations this year – including seven for Bradley Cooper’s “Maestro” – will debut numerous populist films in 2024, including new projects from Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz, Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry, Jenifer Lopez, Millie Bobby Brown, Eddie Murphy, and more.
Well-known directors with movies set to premiere on Netflix this year include Tyler Perry (two titles), McG, Richard Linklater, and Lee Daniels. Comedian Jerry Seinfeld will also make his directorial debut with “Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story.”
On the awards front, while it’s too early to tell which projects might pop – and what movies Netflix might acquire for release this year, similarly to how the studio purchased Todd Haynes’ “May December” at the Cannes Film Festival last year – titles to flag include “The Piano Lesson” from Malcolm Washington with Samuel L. Jackson and John David Washington,...

Christopher Nolan has built his name up over the years to the point that he’s widley considered the greatest director or our generation. His latest film, Oppenheimer, seems bound to finally win him an elusive best director Oscar. But, in the wild build up to his latest movie, many failed to consider his last movie, Tenet, which was unusually divisive for the director. With it set for a nationwide re-release next month, now’s a good time to look back on a movie that’s winning more and more fans every year.
Tenet was born from a simple idea that came to him while making his breakout hit Memento over 20 years ago. While putting that film together, he thought of a single image that helped him crack the way in which to tell a backwards story. The image was that of a bullet being sucked out of a wall.
