Before Alan Wake hit the scene, PC gamers had Gabriel Knight as their horror author caught in a psychological nightmare. Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers hit the PC back in December 1993, and despite its eventual sales figures deeming it to be a disappointment, Sins of the Fathers still received praise from critics and fans, thanks in part to its voice cast and mature story. Publisher Sierra still stuck with it, and kicked off a series that remains highly regarded among fans of the adventure genre.
Gabriel Knight is a cocky New Orleans book store owner and author struggling with a case of writer’s block. Compounding the situation for Gabriel are his recurring nightmares. Currently looking for material by researching a series of killings across New Orleans, Gabriel’s research leads him to determine that that the police’s theory about mob-related killings is wrong. Rather, the killings are...

Last week's The Game Awards had it's fair share of problems that gamers and audiences weren't exactly quiet about, but the show could be something amazing and exactly what the industry needs if they make some changes. Cinelinx breaks down how to fix this awards show for next year.
This past weekend saw the debut of The Game Awards, a successor to the Video Game Awards show that previously aired annually on Spike TV. The inaugural show was streamed far and wide to gamers around the world, but it wasn’t great and seemed to ignore what makes the industry great. Not all is lost, however, as The Game Awards could be great, if they change a few things.
I went into this year’s Game Awards with a lot of excitement actually, but it became evident very quickly that this show wasn’t what the game industry (or developers...

With help from series creator Roberta Williams and Sierra co-founder Ken Williams, Matt Korba of The Odd Gentlemen took to the stage at tonight’s The Game Awards 2014 in order to debut the first footage from the upcoming King’s Quest reboot. The adventure title is set to launch for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC in fall 2015.
Taking place long after the original events of the franchise, players are once again reunited with King Graham. Now a very old man, the king is telling the events of his life and tales of his amazing adventures with his granddaughter, Gwendolyn. Although this version of King’s Quest will feature some of the same storylines of the original, things will be quite this different this time around.

Paul Merrill – the man who helped create the weekly men’s magazine market in the UK and Australia through the launch of Zoo Weekly – will share anecdotes about life on lads’ mags at Mumbrella360 next week.
The interview comes shortly before publication of his memoir A Polar Bear Ate My Head.
Merrill boasts one of Australia’s more unusual LinkedIn profiles:
“I’ve run competitions to find Australia’s Randiest Nanna, Hottest Horse Dentist and Ugliest Baby, and offered prizes of a boob job, lesbian wedding, divorce, voluntary euthanasia for a loved one and time machine (a clock).
“I got Nikki Webster, Mercedes Corby, Roberta Williams and Julia Gillard’s stepdaughter to remove their clothes, published the only known topless shot of Dame Judi Dench and judged a naked beauty contest with Leo Sayer.
“I attacked Tony Blair with a glove puppet, upset Donald Trump, had a dwarf basted, threw a biscuit at Christopher Lee,...

Kat Stewart has revealed that she would like to be a mum. The 38-year-old Australian actress, who is best known for her roles as Roberta Williams in Underbelly and Billie Proudman in Offspring, said that she hadn't given children much thought until recently. Stewart told The Daily Telegraph: "[Motherhood is] something I definitely want to do. I do love children. In five years' time, it would be nice to have a kid or two. "I have a ridiculously adorable group of nieces and nephews. Being an aunty is good [but] the reality is that the window shuts at some point. Any woman over 35 is conscious of that." Stewart also revealed that she "loves" her role in Offspring, saying: "The show gets better and better as time goes on. It's a bit left-of-centre and can be fabulously odd. "I've had a run of characters (more)...

In 2004, a small group of game developers with a common love of Roberta Williams’ King’s Quest series came together under the name Phoenix Freeware Studios (now called Phoenix Online Studios). The collective had but one goal: produce an episodic follow-up to Williams’ beloved creation. The Silver Lining, as their project was eventually christened, received attention from the general public and the current owner of the King’s Quest rights, Activision. Whilst the attention from the public was welcomed, the attention from Activision (and their attorneys) was not; Phoenix was forced to cease production on the game last March.
Thankfully, after a few months of deliberation, the suits at Activision realized putting the kibosh on a labor of love making use of one of their dormant properties was a mistake. Phoenix PR sent out a press release yesterday letting the world know that they’ve received the go-ahead from the...
