The O’Jays rekindle the spirit — and the sumptuous sound — of Philadelphia soul in the Seventies on new single “I Got You.” The song will appear on The Last Word, which the group says will be their final LP.
“I Got You” offers a message of reassurance in a time of political tumult: “Even if the sky begins to fall, and even if they try to build that wall, and even if the bomb goes off and the world is set on fire, I got your back.” “It’s almost gospel,...

Clay is a medium generally associated with lovable, friendly, harmless characters like Mr. Bill; Wallace and Gromit; and those singing, dancing California Raisins. But U.K. artist and prop maker Lizzie Campbell has gone in a decidedly different, more threatening direction with her clay work, which is far removed from the safety and piety of Davey And Goliath. At her spooky, fun Instagram account, appropriately called Clay Disarray, Campbell has used her clay molding skills to recreate the posters for a variety of creepy and disturbing movies, including Donnie Darko, The Blair Witch Project, Eraserhead, and A Clockwork Orange. Along the way, the artist has created a succession of killers, monsters, freaks, and psychopaths far worse than any Blockheads that Gumby and Pokey ever had to face. Here, for instance, is Campbell’s blood-drenched rendition of the title character from Carrie. The telekinetic teen looks as determined and wide-eyed as...

The '70s classic "For the Love of Money" should no longer be associated with Donald Trump ... if The O'Jays get their way. Of course, the song has been the 'Apprentice' theme for years now -- but soul music legends, The O'Jays just sent a cease and desist letter to Trump and Florida Rep. John Mica. The group is particularly upset about a video posted by the congressman praising Donald's involvement in a D.C. real estate deal.

The Mississippi man who was pronounced dead before waking up in a body bag has now actually passed away, according to his local newspaper. Walter Williams, 78, died early Thursday morning, the Clarion-Ledger reports. On Feb. 26, the farmer grabbed headlines for what his family called a "resurrection": Just hours after being declared dead and transported to a funeral home, he awoke alive and flailing in a body bag, and was treated at a hospital. "He was not dead, long story short," funeral director Byron Porter told a local news network at the time, and the county coroner deemed the incident a miracle.

CNN reports that 78-year-old Mississippi resident Walter Williams (above) was officially declared dead at around 9pm this past Wednesday night, after a check of his pulse revealed no signs of life. It all began when Williams' in-home hospice nurse phoned coroner Dexter Howard, telling him that her patient had passed away. Howard confirmed that Williams had indeed crossed over, and so he zipped him up in a body bag and drove him to the local funeral home.
Down in the embalming room of the funeral home, Howard noticed movement inside of the body bag, which he soon realized was Williams kicking to get out. The paramedics were called and they discovered that Williams had a heartbeat,...

This is an excerpt from my interview with creator of Saturday Night Live's Mr. Bill and longtime environmental filmmaker Walter Williams. It's not a comfortable read, but he answered my questions about the millions of gallons of oil flowing into the Gulf of Mexico. The full interview is posted at NewOrleans.com along with our hypnotic but depressing oil spill counter. The failed Bp rig is being called a spill but there's no end in sight. As an environmental activist, what's your best estimate of a worst case scenario from the leak? This could be the end of the city and the beginning of what has been coined America's Energy Coast by Shell and its America's Wetland campaign guru Val Marmillion. That's how many envision our area and this quaint little culture called New Orleans and southern Louisiana is just an obstacle to...
