Technology affects the composer by offering the ability to do a movie like March of the Penguins for example- mostly recorded and mixed in my home studio, that cost savings afforded me more musicians. However, technology does affect music for the worse some times because the sounds can be overly suggestive to the composer. Technology can also make music creation overly accessible, but I think those days are becoming fewer. The frenzy of the accessibility has subsided slightly, and filmmakers are becoming a more discerning again. I think contemporary composition for film would be hindered without technology and modern sounds. Although I reiterate, I am a big advocate of spending money on musicians, which I do right here in Los Angeles.
