[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Archer: Into the Cold,” the “Archer” finale.]
Much like “Wonka” held back its ace in the hole for a majority of the movie, “Archer: Into the Cold” — the long-awaited series finale of Adam Reed’s long-running satiric espionage sitcom — saves one of its best-ever creations for last.
Actually, I’m a little mad about it. How dare we get only a precious few minutes with Tiny Barry™, the ideal form of so many forms taken by Archer’s one-time rival agent, turned villainous cyborg, turned computerized consciousness who was living inside the office refrigerator to start the series finale? How dare he not get a full season to stretch out those tiny little legs, with a special episode told from Tiny Barry’s doll-sized point of view? How dare Krieger (Lucky Yates) keep a “sentient robot in defiance of god” under wraps all these years, when it’s this teensy and this adorable and has...

Adam Reed was searching for inspiration. He’d just sold his stake in the production company he co-founded, 70/30 Productions — responsible for his animated series Sealab 2021 and Frisky Dingo — and fled to Europe, to embark on what he calls a “pilgrimage.” One day during his expedition, he was idling at a café in Salamanca, Spain, and observed a group of stunning women. He wondered who could possibly have the courage to approach them. And then, all of a sudden, a suave fellow sat down at the table, ordered a...

Plot: With the Un voting to outlaw independent spy agencies, Archer and the gang have to work outside the law to save the world from an unlikely duo in this epic series finale event.
Review: Back in October, the eighth and final episode of Archer’s fourteenth season debuted, seemingly bringing the animated series to a close. But, at the end of the episode, it was revealed that a three-part series finale subtitled Into The Cold would premiere in December. As a movie-length closer to the long-running espionage comedy, Archer: Into the Cold is a fitting wrap-up to the adventures of the private spy agency known for mucking up international affairs for over a decade. With the return of some characters from prior years and delivering a goodbye for the main ensemble, Archer: Into The Cold is a far more satisfying end to the series than we got just a couple of months ago.

I first heard about FX’s “Archer” in the ready room of Vaq-135, a navy squadron who were serving an interminable deployment aboard an aircraft carrier somewhere near Midway Island. (This sounds very much like a humblebrag that Sterling Archer would obnoxiously drop into conversation). It was 2010, and the pilots had lost whatever idealism they’d once had during an endless deployment that had them flying 12-hour missions from the Persian Gulf to Afghanistan. I started hearing the officers stage-whisper “danger zone” whenever one of them got called in to see the commanding officer over some minor fuck-up or summoned to the flight deck in the pitch black of an ocean night.
Now, famously, “Danger Zone” is a Kenny Loggins song that plays a significant role in the homoerotic original recipe “Top Gun,” the urtext of naval aviators. But the way the pilots were saying it suggested they were taking the piss.

There is a new way for fans of Archer who have Spectrum cable but not Hulu to watch the Fxx animated series’ 14th and final season. The Emmy-winning comedy has expanded the availability of its current 14th season by making episodes available post-premiere on VOD systems for the FX and Fxx linear channels.
The issue arose after the new agreement between Disney and Spectrum parent Charter, which came together after 10 days of interrupted carriage, included the drop of eight Disney ad-supported cable networks, including Fxx and Fxm, from Spectrum platforms. As Deadline reported last week, FX brass were looking for solutions on Archer, which was seriously impacted as its final season had just premiered when the Disney networks went dark on Spectrum systems on Aug. 31.
Spectrum is the No.2 cable operator in the U.S. with 14.7 million customers, with Fxx and the other discontinued networks losing close to 20% of their reach,...

Review: Fourteen years ago, Archer debuted on FX and introduced the world to the best spy comedy on television. Led by H. Jon Benjamin’s pitch-perfect vocal performance, Archer skewered everything from James Bond to Mad Men and more over its decade and a half on the air. Adam Reed’s series has been consistently hilarious, with multiple forays into genres like noir, science fiction, and an homage to Miami Vice. Now, the final season of Archer is here, and it is thankfully just as great as the thirteen that came before it. Rather than spending time rehashing and reflecting on jokes and plots from prior years,...

FX’s long-running animated series “Archer” is finally coming to an end. The network announced on Monday that Season 14 of the show, which premieres on August 30 on Fxx and streams the next day on Hulu, will be its last.
No additional information about the show’s conclusion was given.
Created by Adam Reed, “Archer” premiered in 2009 as a riff on the James Bond archetype with H. Jon Benjamin’s suave but dumb Sterling Archer running various missions as part of his mother’s wildly dysfunctional intelligence agency.
After the first four seasons, the show started reinventing itself with themed seasons starting with Season 5’s “Archer Vice,” complete with 1980s aesthetics. Other seasons saw the crew on the run, in a full-on noir and in outer space. There was seemingly no end to where “Archer” could go.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia recently finished its 15th season and Archer is going into its 13th season.
However, neither show is heading toward the end of its line, according to FX Entertainment President Eric Schrier.
Sunny, which with its latest season beat the record for longest running live-action comedy, bypassing The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet, was renewed for multiple seasons in December 2020, taking it through to its 18th season.
FX Networks @ TCA: Deadline’s Complete Coverage
“It’s interesting with that show,” Schrier told Deadline. “The guys have been doing it for so long. As long as they feel that they creatively can maintain its vibrancy, they want to continue to do it. Creatively, the show is excellent, and we think the last season was as strong as ever. The fans love the show, so we’ll keep going as long as as they want to keep it going.

Archer will continue its long-running stretch.
Fxx has renewed the animated comedy for a 13th season. The Disney-owned network will launch the eight-episode run in 2022, and like its current 12th season will premiere on Fxx and be available to stream the next day on FX on Hulu.
It comes as the 12th season – the show’s last featuring the voice talent of the late Jessica Walter as Archer’s mother and spymaster Malory Archer – continues on the network.
FX Networks chairman John Landgraf told Deadline earlier this summer that he was “optimistic” that the show would return.
The series follows Sterling Archer as he navigates the changing landscape of the spy world. In the current season, Archer and gang face a new threat: a spy conglomerate known as Iia (International Intelligence Agency). With a limited number of spy jobs up for grabs, can Archer’s mom-and-pop spy agency compete against the soulless vultures of Iia,...

In Season 11 “Archer,” Fxx’s Emmy-winning, adult animated sitcom, returned to the world of spies after a genre-hopping, delirious, three-year coma. But, of course, Sterling Archer’s (H. Jon Benjamin) return to consciousness was a shock to his overblown ego. He was suddenly like a fish out of water — out of sync, out of shape, and even more clueless — trying to cope with the fact that his dysfunctional colleagues were more efficient without him.
At the same time, the Atlanta-based Floyd County Productions had to make some adjustments as well. Creator Adam Reed stepped further into the background after providing the premise to pursue other projects, which gave more creative control to executive producers Casey Willis and Matt Thompson, who also directed the Sony/Netflix animated feature, “America: The Motion Picture,” produced by “Spider-Verse’s” Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Sterling Archer has returned to the land of the living…finally.
After originally being scheduled for a May 2020 release, Archer season 11 was pulled from the calendar due to the coronavirus pandemic. Now, the Fxx series officially made its debut on Sept. 16. The season will feature eight episodes. In a first for the show, episodes will be available the next day on FX on Hulu.
Archer appears to be back in the saddle and no worse for wear, aside from the use of a very cool tactical cane. It even seems as though the show has returned to Archer’s original offices…though presumably it won’t have the same “Isis” name. Keep up with everything we know about Archer season 11 here!
Archer Season 11 Release Date
