Do you ever remember the old conduct of your adventure books that used to be so popular? You know, the ones where you select an option and have to go-to another page to continue the story. Watching “Dr Wai” brings back those memories given the wrap around narrative. Throw in a blatant nod to Indiana Jones and there is a lot of nostalgia at play. Continuing with the reviews of Eureka Entertainment's release of the “Heroes and Villains” Jet Li box set, it's time to dig out the explorer's hat, select follow-this-adventure and see if this feature is a lost treasure or deserves to be lost in the midst of time.

"The West Wing" is widely considered to be one of the best shows of all time. Aaron Sorkin's political drama follows the Bartlet Administration through two terms in the White House. For seven seasons we watched Josiah Bartlet (Martin Sheen), his family, and advisors or assistants — that began to feel like our own family — navigated a constantly shifting political landscape. Premiering in 1999, "The West Wing" fell at the beginning of what we now call the Golden Age of Television and arguably led to high-profile shows like "24," "House of Cards," "Veep," and "The Crown."
"The West Wing" racked up an impressive 26 Primetime Emmy wins and 95 nominations, despite steep competition from chief rival "The Sopranos." With former politicians like Dee Dee Myers and Elie Attie serving as contributors and writers, the show boasted an impressive level of authenticity. Though some have blamed its overly optimistic portrayal of politics for setting...

For those who have watched Wong Kar-wai’s 1994 feature “Chungking Express” his following feature “Fallen Angels” is at times considered something like an addition to the prior story, especially since the director himself has stated he wanted to include it as the third segment in “Chungking Express”. However, Wong Kar-wai decided to go in a different direction, resulting in the decision to make this a stand-alone feature, which, nevertheless, is in many ways, story-wise and aesthetically, connected to “Chungking Express”. In the end, “Fallen Angels” explores some of the same themes as the director’s 1994 feature, for example the image of the city as a maze of obsessions, while also dealing with the darker side of extreme emotions, leading to isolation and rejection, thus adding another layer to his view on the dichotomy of man and metropolis.

Tony Leung Ka-fai, Aaron Kwok, Charlie Young, Eddie Peng and Aarif Rahman make up the rest of the core cast of the cop thriller with directors Longman Leung and Sunny Luk retunring. Police Story might just be the greatest action franchise of all time. But which movies are the best in the series?
After his disappointing experience in America filming The Protector, Jackie Chan returned to Hong Kong determined to make his own cop film his own way. The result - Police Story - kickstarted perhaps the greatest action franchise of all time; a series of films that still deliver thrills of a near-religious magnitude for genre fans.
Aside from the two reboots, the Police Stories revolve around Jackie's maverick Hong Kong cop Ka-Kui Chan (or Kevin Chan, in the English dubs) with frequent appearances from his lovably inept superior 'Uncle Bill' (Bill Tung) and his long-suffering girlfriend May (Maggie Cheung). The story continuity is a little ropey but instead each instalment offers a new, and usually more improbable, case for Ka-Kui to crack.

A martial arts instructor (Donny Yen) convicted of killing someone in a duel is released from prison by a tough as nails woman Police Lt. (Charlie Yeung) in order to help catch a serial killer, who is targeting master martial arts fighters.
A very simple setup leads to a multi themed action movie that is both old school kung fu and a post modern Valentine to the kind of action films that used to dominate Hong Kong film studios like Shaw Brothers and Golden Harvest.
Kung Fu Killer is a fight filled action movie, and as you would expect the fight scenes are excellent, Donny Yen is probably the best martial arts actor in Hong Kong right now. It is also a police procedural with the Hong Kong police doing all the forensics and lead tracking and high tech surveillance we are now used to from Hollywood, European and Asian crime films.

Let’s be honest – when it comes to martial arts movies, the action is always front and center. If you’re a director, you better be loading your film with graceful choreography, a fury of thrown fists, and plenty of flying mid-air kicks that defy the laws of gravity. We love to watch master craftsmen kicking the absolute tar out of each other. And that’s fine, because unlike gratuitously savage action flicks with bullet-ridden corpses, martial arts is all about technique, beauty, and presentation – but even with that said, some resemblance of a rich story is necessary. It can’t be all sizzle and no steak, but that’s unfortunately what happens to Teddy Chan’s latest genre attempt. Kung Fu Killer is a movie that has plenty of the aforementioned kung fu killing, as advertised, but there’s a serious lack of plotting that makes for a very one-sided experience.

Five grandmasters hunted by a serial killer. This actually looks way better than it sounds, so give it a look. Well Go USA has released a trailer for Kung Fu Killer, a new film starring martial arts master Donnie Yen killer and a kung fu expert, who convinces the police to recruit him to track down a serial killer in return for his freedom. Sounds like the perfect kind of plot for a cheesy martial arts movie, but it seems to be a few notches above that. Charlie Yeung, Baoqiang Wang, Bing Bai, Deep Ng and Alex Fong also star in this martial arts thriller from Hong Kong. The big skeleton set piece looks cool, and all the action gets awesome in the second half of this trailer, so don't stop watching too early. I really want to see this! Enjoy. Donnie Yen is back in a movie that will have fans heading to the cinema in October 2014 and it looks not to disappoint. Kung Fu Jungle looks like a creepy thriller with tons of action and after the disappointment of Special ID, i think this will more than make up for it.
The movie is directed by Teddy Chan and also co stars Charlie Yeung, Wang Baoqiang and Michelle Bai. Shaw Brothers legend David Chiang also appears in the movie, which is always great to see and i am a massive fan of his along with Donnie Yen.
Plot:
A martial arts instructor (Donnie Yen) working at a police academy gets imprisoned after killing a man by accident. But when a vicious killer (Wang Baoqiang) starts targeting martial arts masters, the instructor offers to help the police in return for his freedom.
The movie opens in October 2014.

“Christmas Rose” marks the directorial debut of Hong Kong actress Charlie Yeung, who started off her career with roles in Wong Kar Wai’s “Ashes of Time” and “Fallen Angels”, and who recently featured in the thriller “Cold War”. For the highly charged courtroom drama, Yeung enlisted Hk industry lynchpins Tsui Hark and Jacob Cheung as producers, along with an A-list cast including Aaron Kwok (who she worked with previously on the superb “After this our Exile”), Guey Lun Mei (“Flying Swords of Dragon Gate”), Chang Chen (“The Grandmaster”), Xia Yu (“Wind Blast”) and Qin Hailu (“Say Yes!”). Apparently years in preparation, the film sees Yeung tackling controversial material, focusing on a case in which a doctor is said to have molested a disabled patient. The patient in question is Jing (Guey Lun Mei), a wheelchair-bound young woman who works as a piano teacher, tutoring the daughter of rich doctor...

The biggest, most hyped and eagerly awaited Hong Kong thriller of the year arrives in the form of “Cold War”, written and directed by first-timers Longman Leung and Sunny Luk. The effort seems to have paid off, with the film emerging as the biggest Hong Kong money maker of 2012, in addition to having been nominated for a long list of gongs at the Hong Kong Film Awards. The film also stars Charlie Young, working for the director again after the ill-advised “Bangkok Dangerous” remake in 2008, along with Huo Siyan (“My Name is Fame”) and Li Zonghan (“Reign of Assassins”), plus Hong Kong character actor favourite Kent Cheng (who memorably starred in a long string of 1980s and 90s classics such as “Run and Kill”, “Dr Lamb”, “Sex and Zen”, and countless others). Director Gao Qunshu presented a new trailer for his upcoming action thriller “Wind Blast”. The film is a contemporary Chinese western where four police detectives must track down a murder suspect and his girlfriend. Unbeknownst to them the man they are hunting hired a pair of professional assassins of his own. The trailer has a tense, grim, Cormac McCarthy kind of feel to it, where sparse, desolate moments are punctuated by sudden bursts of extreme violence. The film stars Francis Ng, Xia Yu, Charlie Yeung, Duan Yihong, Wu Jing, Ni Dahong, and Zhang Li, and is scheduled for release October 28.

The players: Directors: Oxide Pang, Danny Pang, Writer: Jason Richman, Cast: Nicolas Cage, Shaun Delaney, Steve Baldocchi, Charlie Yeung, Shahkrit Yamnarm
Facts of interest: Remake of the Pangs' 1999 flick of the same title.
The plot: A hit man gets into trouble after he travels to Bangkok and falls in love with a local.
Our quick thoughts: “Bangkok Dangerous” may not be as disastrous as I expected, but it sure is the perfect example of what happens to a remake going through the big, predictable Hollywood machine. In short, this means you’re in for an unsurprising action flick with a monotonous plot, insufficient suspense and only a few entertaining sequences.
