Sons of Anarchy‘s Rockmond Dunbar has joined ABC’s Doubt, our sister site Deadline reports.
The legal drama from David Shore (House) centers around Vincent, a former cop-turned-charmingly low-rent lawyer who uses his street smarts and cunning to work the system for his clients while battling his own demons and wooing his ex-wife.
Dunbar will play Vincent’s former partner on the force and current confidante.
In addition to FX’s Anarchy, Dunbar’s credits include The Game, Terriers and Prison Break.

After a year of speculation and a blockbuster presentation last night, Microsoft officially revealed (most) of the important details surrounding its motion-control camera — once dubbed Project Natal, now called Kinect — to assembled gaming press and industry today in Los Angeles. The camera system will debut in North America on Nov. 4 with 15 launch titles and will be compatible with all current Xbox 360 consoles. Curiously, Microsoft did not announce a price for the Kinect, although gaming blog Kotaku is reporting that GameStop is charging $149 for Kinect pre-orders. As a kicker, Microsoft also announced that a smaller, slimmer version of the Xbox 360 (in a shiny black case,...

So let’s just call this thing: Crystal killed it, and Lee kinda choked. Having discussed last night’s American Idol finale performance night with EW.com’s preeminent Idoloonie Michael Slezak, I know that was also his assessment of the evening from the vantage point of his living room couch. From my seat inside the IdolDeathStar — a.k.a. the Nokia Theater La Live — the difference between Crystal’s often effortless excellence and Lee’s unfocused striving was even more stark. I don’t think I’ve experienced an Idol finale, on TV or in person, this lopsidedly obvious...

There was already a celebration underway on stage when I first walked into the Idoldome last night — the final night this season for the Idoldome, point of fact, as next week the show moves what is sure to be its mildly diverting positively riveting finale to downtown Los Angeles in the behemoth Nokia Theater, a.k.a. the IdolDeathStar. Surveying the scene back in the Idoldome, for a second I surmised the ongoing festivities were for Casey, Crystal, and Lee, since all twelve season 9 finalists were there (including that one with the red hair! and the other one with the color contacts!

Death by shooting. Death by stabbing. Death by explosion. Death by chocolate. There are thousands of ways to die, and we’ve seen a bunch of them on Lost. (Except for the chocolate one. That’d be sweet.) With so many characters biting the big one over the years, we decided to gather our dearly departed for a cool photograph that would be featured in EW’s Lost special issue, which is currently on newsstands. Those able to resurrect themselves for the occasion were: Ian Somerhalder (Boone), Harold Perrineau (Michael), Elizabeth Mitchell (Juliet), Rebecca Mader (Charlotte), William Mathoper (Ethan), Cynthis...

Strand Releasing has acquired North American rights to John Young’s "Rivers Wash over Me," the tale of a 15-year-old from Brooklyn who is sent to live with his aunt in rural Alabama.
The film stars Darien Sills Evans, Derrick L. Middleton, who won a best actor award from Outfest, and Elizabeth Dennis.
It will have a limited theatrical release in late May or early June.
Strand handled the home video rights for Young's "Parallel Sons" as well as all rights for his previous effort, "The Reception."
The deal was negotiated by Strand co-president Jon Gerrans directly with Young.

I should tell you up front, I did not get to see Ke$ha perform at last night's American Idol results show. Or, rather, I did not get to see her perform live. The pop tartlet pre-taped her performance a few hours before the live show, and I couldn't make it over to CBS Television City in time to see it. So I have no fun anecdotes to share about how her dancers managed those oversized TV-screen headdresses, or whether the production had trouble getting the shot of Sarah Chalke in an SNL skit Ke$ha kicking in that TV...

Hello, Idoloonies! Normally, I would be coming to you live from inside the American Idol studio in a week's time, when the Top 12 contestants enter the gaping maw that is the Idoldome and my colleague-in-snark Whitney Pastorek and I soak in the behind-the-scenery for your unceasing bemusement. And we still plan to do that, along with our newest Idol correspondent, the intrepid Mr. John Young. But this year, EW is getting an exclusive chance to sit in on the final week of the Idol semis, when the stage is much smaller, the audience sits in the round, and Cory the...

Two weeks after Cryptome.com had the plug pulled temporarily on it by host Network Solutions, it seems the site has run into more problems--only this time, with someone else. The site's current frenemy is eBay, who has suspended Cryptome's PayPal account and all donations received since February 24, around the time that Cryptome ran into problems with Microsoft, following publication of the software giant's guide to online surveillance.
John Young, the New York-based architect who has run the site since 1996, has put details of his correspondence with the online payment firm on the site under the headline Cryptome Suspected of Money Laundering or Worse, and has asked his supporters to donate money by other means.
Although it is not clear what precipitated PayPal's actions (although Cryptome has published a couple of the eBay subsidiary's lawful spying docs in the past) it seems that the company is preparing a Suspicious Activity Report on the Web site.

Vampires. Doppelgangers. A nearly naked Joel McHale. Such were the topics at last night's Community screening and panel at the 2010 William S. Paley Television Festival, where the cast and crew of NBC's Community (sadly without Yvette Nicole Brown, Danny Pudi, and Alison Brie, who were shooting last night) came together to celebrate the freshman comedy, attempt to ignore the jaw-dropping antics of Chevy Chase, and offer a brief insight into the hysterical madness that is this sweet/sour comedy gem. While Brown, Pudi, and Brie were absent (Brown told me via Twitter that they were shooting a scene with Jim Rash, who plays Dean Pelton), the rest of the cast and crew filled the stage, including: Chevy Chase, Ken Jeong, Neil Goldman, Anthony Russo, Gillian Jacobs, Joe Russo, Russ Krasnoff, Joel McHale, Donald Glover, Garrett Donovan, and Dan Harmon. Moderated by Entertainment Weekly's John Young (who seemed a little out...

Microsoft has acted swiftly after the Web site Cryptome leaked its "Global Criminal Compliance Handbook." The guide does exactly what it says: outlines the surveillance services the software company will perform for law enforcement agencies on its online platforms. These include its email services, such as Hotmail, MSN, Messenger, Office Live, Windows Live, and even Xbox Live. Gulp.
The 22-page guide has "Confidential For Law Enforcement Use Only" stamped all over it, but that didn't stop the website from putting the Pdf up over the weekend. Cryptome Editor John Young received an notice from the site's host, Network Solutions yesterday, citing the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Unless he removes the guide, they fingerwagged, Cryptome will be disabled tomorrow, February 25. (Update: the Cryptome.org website is already showing a "currently unavailable" message from Network Solutions.)

I'm Kate Ward, and I'm not an actor -- though I would love to be, if only to get the opportunity to stroke Jon Hamm's luxurious beard. (Mmm.) After an unusually somber and sober Golden Globes ceremony last Sunday, things were decidedly cheerier at Saturday night's Screen Actors Guild Awards. In fact, our actors were so happy to receive their awards, the show began running too long: Near the end of the program, during the commercial break, winners were asked to limit their acceptance speeches to 45 seconds. Once again, CBS dominated primetime Tuesday, winning all three time slots, according to early Nielsen estimates. All that enigmatic hype paid off: ABC's FlashForward premiered to an impressive 12.4 million viewers Thursday, portending a considerably bright future for the sci-fi drama. The net logged a good night overall, with 16.8 million showing up for George O'Malley's funeral on the two-hour Grey's Anatomy season premiere. ABC's victories took a bit of a bite out of CBS' strong lineup, particularly CSI, whose 15.7 million-viewer audience was down a whopping 33 percent from last season's October premiere. Numbers for NBC's Jay Leno-in-prime-time experiment were even more alarming now that fall programming is in full force: The talk show notched just 5 million viewers, a low point in its steady decline since debuting to 18.4 million viewers nearly two weeks ago. CBS dominated Tuesday night with the season 7 premiere of NCIS, which scored its biggest audience ever according to overnight numbers, and the series debut of NCIS: Los Angeles. The spinoff held on to roughly 90 percent of its lead-in securing the shows the two top spots on the evening's ratings chart. The Good Wife, the Eye's well-received drama starring Julianna Margulies, debuted to 13.7 million viewers — a solid start that was good enough to take the 10 p.m hour over ABC's Christian Slater procedural The Forgotten and NBC's Jay Leno Show. Ladies' night during Dancing With the Stars' premiere week finished second in both the 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. hours. And viewers continued to flee The CW's Melrose Place, which was down around 360,000 from last week. America's Got Talent continued to dominate Tuesday's ratings, though it lost roughly a million viewers from last week. Perhaps those folks tuned into CBS' Big Brother, which gained more than a million viewers in comparison. ABC's latest reality offering, Shaq Vs, premiered, with Shaquille O'Neal challenging Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers to a quarterback challenge. NBC continues to dominate summer Tuesdays with the help of America Got Talent. Once again, the newest installment topped both the 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. hours. A repeat at 8 p.m. nearly outperformed Fox's Hell's Kitchen, and did defeat ABC's Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. As some of you may know, we're big fans of the drive-in here at Film Junk. In this age of high-tech multiplexes and gigantic IMAX screens, there's still something about the experience of sitting outside in the dark and watching a movie among friends that makes it a little bit more exciting. The sad thing is, drive-ins are something of a dying breed, and I'm willing to bet that a lot of our younger readers have never even been to a drive-in before. That's why I'm pretty stoked to hear that a number of people across North America are taking matters into their own hands, by starting up what they are calling "guerilla drive-ins" or "MobMovs". Yahoo! [1] has an interesting article from The Associated Press this week about the growing phenomenon, where fans bring a 16mm or LCD projector out to different secret locations to screen some of their favourite movies.

I'm happy to say that I'm old enough to have seen a bunch of movies at drive-in theaters during my Southern Californian youth. (I've got plenty of stories that really don't fit here, but some day ...) Even though the number of drive-ins has dwindled steadily over the years, several hundred still survive -- one of my favorite bloggers, Dennis Cozzalio, wrote up a wonderful account of a recent celebration he hosted at a drive-in screening of Drag Me to Hell -- and the spirit of drive-ins is thriving, as enterprising fans take it upon themselves to show movies outdoors in unexpected venues.
The "guerrilla drive-ins," as headlined by the Associated Press, are different than the officially-sanctioned outdoor screenings that Cinematical Dawn Taylor wrote about last month. The AP story revolves around John Young, creator of the West Chester Guerrilla Drive-In, "part of a loosely knit network of celluloid renegades resurrecting...
