A film chronicling the relationship between Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne and Sharon Osbourne is in the works.
A biopic about Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne is still in the works.
The as-yet-untitled film was formally announced in October 2021, when it was confirmed that both Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne’s music will feature.
Sony Pictures and Polygram are behind the project, which will focus on a twenty year period between 1979 and 1999. Lee Hall, who won huge acclaim for his screenplay for Elton John biopic Rocketman in 2018, will write the script.
Sharon and Jack Osbourne revealed the update on their podcast The Osbournes (as picked up by Planet Rock), where Ozzy, in typically unabashed style, commented on the slow progress of the film, saying “By the time it’s eventually filmed, I’ll be dead! I wanna be alive to f—ing see it”.

Ozzy Osbourne has called out his longtime Black Sabbath bandmate Geezer Butler for not checking in on him while he was dealing with a series of health issues in recent years. However, the bassist has responded by saying he made multiple attempts to send Osbourne “get well” messages.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone UK, Osbourne expressed frustration at Butler for the apparent radio silence. Ozzy also stated that their friendship has deteriorated in part because of a feud between his wife/manager Sharon Osbourne and Geezer’s wife/manager Gloria Butler.
“[Black Sabbath guitarist] Tony Iommi has been so supportive of me since my illness,” said Osbourne, adding: “Geezer Butler hasn’t given me one fucking phone call. Not one fucking call. When his son was fucking born, I phoned him every fucking night even though we were at war with each other, Black Sabbath and me [following Ozzy’s exit in 1979]. I thought, ‘Fuck it,...

Ozzy Osbourne acknowledges he may never take the stage again after years of medical issues — including a recent spinal surgery that also uncovered a tumor — in a new interview with Rolling Stone UK.
The singer, named the first-ever Rolling Stone UK Awards icon in a new cover story, talked about his fourth spinal surgery, aimed at remedying the damage from a 2019 fall that dislodged the metal rods from a previous surgery.
“It’s really knocked me about,” Osbourne said of the procedure. “The second surgery went drastically wrong and virtually left me crippled.

Tony Iommi made a surprise appearance during the premiere performance of a new Black Sabbath ballet Saturday night (September 23rd) at The Hippodrome Theatre in the band’s hometown of Birmingham, United Kingdom.
The ballet was commissioned by Birmingham Royal Ballet’s director Carlos Acosta and Ballet Now, and features eight re-orchestrated renditions of iconic Black Sabbath songs, as well as new compositions inspired by the heavy metal pioneers.
Iommi had been present for some of rehearsals for the ballet and made his cameo during the final number, playing guitar on “Paranoid.” The guitarist then took a bow with the cast and crew at the conclusion of the performance.
Other notable names in attendance for the premiere were Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler, Sharon Osbourne, Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant, and Electric Light Orchestra drummer Bev Bevan (who served as the touring drummer for Sabbath from 1983 to 1984 and played drums on...

Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler has opened up about his battle with depression in a new interview.
Speaking on NPR’s Bullseye With Jesse Thorn, Butler recalled his first time experiencing depression during the early days of Black Sabbath. From then on, it would recur throughout his life, leading him to seek medical advise — though depression was often stigmatized back then, and Butler’s condition went undiagnosed for years.
“I wasn’t depressed all the time,” the bassist said. “Just the occasional bout would come on me. At first, when it was getting really bad… Back then nobody ever said anything about depression or anything like that, and people were terrified to mention that you might be depressed because you automatically thought you were gonna be taken away to a mental hospital and be locked away forever. So you couldn’t talk about it to people in case that happened.

Tony Iommi has revealed that Black Sabbath were approached to play a reunion set at the inaugural Power Trip festival, but he turned the offer down.
The massive fest is scheduled for October 6th through the 8th at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California — also the home of Coachella. The unprecedented lineup is stacked with some of the biggest names in rock and metal, including Guns N’ Roses, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica, and Tool (get tickets here).
Speaking on Sirius Xm’s Trunk Nation, Iommi confirmed that Black Sabbath were considered for the fest, but the guitarist shot down the idea himself, mainly due to uncertainties concerning the health of the original lineup members, including Ozzy. He added that he was surprised when Ozzy ended up being booked for the gig.

Black Sabbath’s bassist-and-lyricist Geezer Butler had the habit of cutting himself to “get relief” from his depression.
He has dished on in great detail about his battle with his mental health over the years, and how he would self-harm so he wouldn’t be focused on his mental state, reports aceshowbiz.com.

Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler has opened up about his disconnect with longtime bandmate Ozzy Osbourne, while also ruling out a Sabbath reunion.
A hypothetical Sabbath reunion that would include original drummer Bill Ward has been discussed ad nauseam since the band completed its 2016-2017 “The End Tour” with Tommy Clufetos behind the kit. For various reasons, the reunion has been more of a pipe dream than a legitimate possibility.
Speaking with Rolling Stone about his new memoir, Into the Void: From Birth to Black Sabbath―And Beyond, Butler put what appears to be the final kibosh on the idea. “I don’t think Ozzy’s up for it anyway,” he said.
As Butler reveals in his new book, the lines of communication are currently closed between him and Ozzy, though it isn’t due to a personal beef: “Me and Ozzy are fine, it’s just that we’re both ruled by our wives.

It’s become so commonplace for musicians to release covers, that we’re almost immune to it. However, when an artist totally steps out of their genre to cover something entirely unexpected, that’s cause for excitement.
Rapper T-Pain has released a new covers album, titled On Top of the Covers, via Nappy Boy Entertainment. The album features a unique mix of artist and song choices, from Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” to Sam Cookie’s “A Change Is Gonna Come” to Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me.”
T-Pain also covers the Black Sabbath classic “War Pigs” on the set. If you’re cringing at the thought of T-Pain butchering a metal classic, don’t. We think he actually does justice to the track, singing the song’s famed melodies with passion and powerful vocal lines. Despite being known for his Auto-Tune vocals, the rapper has a very strong singing voice.

Founding Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler is set to release his autobiography, Into the Void: From Birth to Black Sabbath — and Beyond, on June 6th via the HarperCollins imprint Dey Street Books.
The book will follow both Butler’s personal life as well as tell his side of the Black Sabbath story. This includes his working-class upbringing in Birmingham, the band’s “beginnings as a scrappy blues quartet,” and the internal struggles that led to Black Sabbath’s many lineup changes over the years.
“A rollicking, effusive, and candid memoir by the heavy metal musician and founding member of Black Sabbath,” reads the publisher’s thumbnail description, “covering his years as the band’s bassist and main lyricist through his later-career projects, and detailing how one of rock’s most influential bands formed and prevailed.”

Ozzy Osbourne has claimed that he and his wife Sharon had to enlist “armed guards” after a backlash against Sharon surrounding her talk show exit.
Sharon Osbourne was removed from her CBS chat show The Talk following a racism row, in which she defended Piers Morgan over his criticism of Meghan Markle.
In August, the couple announced that they would move back to the UK after 20 years in LA due to a number of recent shootings.

“And there was that mass shooting in Vegas at that concert … It’s f****** crazy. And I don’t want to die in America. I don’t want to be buried in f****** Forest Lawn,” he added.

There’s no way to precisely quantify the colossal amount of drugs Black Sabbath inhaled in 1972 while making their fourth album, which they’d hoped to title Snowblind, in tribute to their favorite powdered narcotic. All they have to go on is the bill their manager presented to them when they were done with it. “Whether you can believe him or not, the record cost, I think, $65,000,” bassist Geezer Butler says drolly, “and the cocaine bill was $75,000.”

Ozzy Osbourne has had much of his life captured on film, whether it was early shows from Black Sabbath, the pioneering heavy metal band formed in the late 1960s, or MTV’s reality series The Osbournes.
His story, from biting the head off a bat at a show in Iowa to urinating on the Alamo, has also been told numerous times in Behind The Music-style tales. However, in The Nine Lives of Ozzy Osbourne, the musician opens up his life growing up in Birmingham, England as well as his march into madness, becoming the Prince of Darkness and an elder statesmen of the rock n roll world.
Director R. Greg Johnston tells Deadline that he was fascinated to trace the highs and lows of Osbourne’s career over five decades. The feature-length doc airs tonight, September 7 on A&e as part of the cable network’s Biography strand.

Jean-Paul Gaster still remembers the moment he realized the first heavy-metal band were playing jazz.

Performances by big-band jazz greats Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa made a particularly strong impression on him.

Performances by big-band jazz greats Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa made a particularly strong impression on him.

Black Sabbath changed the world of music 50 years ago this week with their genre-defining self-titled debut. To mark the occasion, Rolling Stone put together a comprehensive account of the record’s creation.
We spoke with 12 original sources, including the Black Sabbath’s guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward, and several of their collaborators and peers. Judas Priest’s Rob Halford recalled seeing the group when they were called Earth, Ten Years After’s Leo Lyons remembers the band opening up for them, and Status Quo’s...

Before the world recognized Black Sabbath as heavy-metal forefathers, the band members wrote a song that gave them the chills.
“We knew instantly that ‘Black Sabbath’ was very different to what was around at the time,” guitarist Tony Iommi says of the piece that gave the group its name.
“We always wanted to go heavier than any other band,” bassist Geezer Butler says.
“I thought the song would be a flop, but I also thought it was brilliant,” drummer Bill Ward says. “I still think it’s brilliant.”

When Black Sabbath entered the studio to record their monumental first album in 1969, guitarist Tony Iommi faced a serious setback early in the session.
After tracking the first song, “Wicked World,” the pickup went out on his favorite guitar, a Fender Stratocaster he’d heavily modified to accommodate the thimbles he had to wear on his fretting hand after he’d lost his fingertips in a freak industrial accident. “In them days, you couldn’t go, ‘Oh, I’ll go and get another one from the guitar shop,’ or get somebody to bring one over,...

When Black Sabbath first attempted to tour America in 1970, they had a Hell of a time. “We had to face the mayor of [every] town,” drummer Bill Ward once recalled. “We were banned all the time. They were afraid of us. They thought we were going to put a spell on you.”
Although Mick Jagger and Sammy Davis, Jr. had already publicly flirted with satanism, Black Sabbath — whose members all wore crosses to ward off evil — were much too scary for the United States. Their self-titled debut album sported a witchy woman on its cover,...

Earlier this month, original Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward went public with his desire to reunite with the group via a video on his Twitter account. “I wanted to say that I love Tony [Iommi, guitar], Geezer [Butler, bass] and Ozzy [Osbourne, vocals] very much,” he said. “I’ve loved them for a long time, and I still do. And I would be very open-minded to any ideas about playing together in the future. That’s it. Love you all. Thanks.”

Brad Pitt and Peter Berg’s Film 45 will document the late Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman.
"Cry, if you want to cry," Chris Cornell sang on the song "My Wave." Brad Pitt and Peter Berg’s production company Film 45 will help you see and clear your eyes in a documentary about the late frontman and songwriter for Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog, according to Variety. Cornell’s widow, Vicky Cornell, will participate as a producer. Paramount recently yanked Pitt's World War Z 2, which he hoped to make with Fight Club director David Fincher, from its production schedule. Berg will direct the as-yet-untitled movie. No other details of the Chris Cornell documentary have been announced.
Cornell died on May 18, 2017, a few hours after a Soundgarden show at Detroit's Fox Theater. His death was ruled a suicide. An autopsy revealed painkillers and anti-anxiety medication in Cornell's bloodstream.

“Being in Sabbath was a complete drama,” vocalist Tony Martin said in 2014 of his time in the iconic metal band Black Sabbath. “I never really had the chance to settle into it because I was constantly learning the ropes or reading between the lines.”
Though Martin appeared on more studio albums than any other Sabbath singer besides Ozzy Osbourne, his tenure in the band — two separate stints from 1987 to 1991 and 1993 to 1997 — remains strangely low-profile, vastly overshadowed by Osbourne and Ronnie James Dio’s celebrated eras.

Nearly two years after Black Sabbath wrapped their massive farewell tour, bassist Geezer Butler unveiled his next move: a supergroup project featuring drummer Matt Sorum (Guns N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver), guitarist Steve Stevens (Billy Idol) and vocalist Franky Perez (Scars on Broadway, Apocalyptica).
The quartet released their first single, the brooding blues-rock epic “Down in Flames.” The track opens with Sorum’s borderline-shuffled 6/8 drum groove and settles into a massive, distorted riff from Butler and Stevens. “It’s gonna be a long, cold winter/ For saints and for sinners,” Perez howls over the din,...

Despite announcing their split after 34 years of marriage in early May, Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne made the best of their situation when they teamed up for a special announcement at the Hollywood Palladium on Thursday. Joined by musicians Zakk Wylde, Geezer Butler, and Corey Taylor, the Osbournes revealed the Ozzfest and Knotfest music festivals would be joining forces this year in San Bernardino. The former couple looked more than comfortable on stage together, with Ozzy holding Sharon close and the two sharing a few kisses on the cheek. Sharon opened up about her divorce on The Talk on Tuesday, confirming that they were no longer living together. "He's back, and I'm out of the house," she told her cohosts. "It's right for me because I honestly, at this point today, have no idea what I'm doing with the rest of my life. I'm 63 years of age, and I can't keep living like this.

Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne have come together in public for the first time since announcing the unexpected news of their split earlier this week. The pair, who have been together for 33 years, reunited at the Los Angeles Palladium for a press conference on Thursday where Sharon supported Ozzy by announcing the merging of Ozzfest and Slipknot's Knotfest. During the conference, she even welcomed him on-stage as the crowd chanted his name and thanked fans for their continued support. After welcoming Ozzy, Geezer Butler and Slipknot's Clown and Corey Taylor, she explained, "Twenty years ago, we realized there was no one supporting music the way these guys do." Thus, in honor of the 20th...

Black Sabbath became a wacky, Scooby Doo or Beatles-style cartoon in the early 2000s, when animator and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog creator Robert Smigel broke out his running SNL bit TV Funhouse into a half-hour show. The show ran like a Seventies kids' show with a host, Doug Dale, who hung out with a bunch of animal puppets – including some voiced by Smigel – and introduced not-ready-for-primetime spots in the vein of his Ambiguously Gay Duo and X-Presidents bits. The show was short-lived, but its eight episodes were just long...

In the realm of dark musical delights, 2013 has been quite a historic year: legends in their respective genres returned and/or reunited, while others marked the swan songs of their careers; iconic artists turned out some of their finest work, while some innovative up-and-comers set loose fresh and evil earworms on our collective brains. Honestly, it was damn near impossible for me to narrow the list down to just thirteen entries – a mere Top 10 was out of the question – and cutting names felt like chopping off my own extremities (which I'll admit would be an impressive journalistic statement, but could lead to unpleasant side effects I'd rather not deal with). Still, I found a way to make it work. Well... okay, I cheated, actually. More on that later. But for now, let's cycle back through 2013 – definitely a banner year for scary sounds! The 2013 Eyegore Awards
Every year, Universal Studios, the home of horror, turns its revered studio and theme park into a playground for the devil, a maelstrom of haunted mazes and re-purposed rides fitting the all-important Halloween motif. We are greeted with different mazes each year, all chosen to reflect the most popular Universal confections at the time.
Halloween Horror Nights first launched as “Fright Nights” in Universal Studios Florida back in 1991, but in 1997, Halloween Horror Nights spread across the country to Hollywood, which seems only fitting, since this is the home of practically all of the classic horror movies we’ve grown up on. This past Friday, once again, FM attended the kickoff event. Along with the unveiling of this year’s horror mazes, we were treated to a litany of fangtastic guests and horror luminaries, with what could be the shortest and sweetest awards ceremony in Hollywood, the Eyegore Awards.

Few bands throughout history have better represented the fight between good and evil than heavy metal pioneers Black Sabbath.
The group even had an album and song titled "Heaven And Hell" during one of the periods when the late Ronnie James Dio had replaced Ozzy Osbourne as the band's lead singer. That song's main refrain of "Oh, it's on and on and on/ It goes on and on and on, Heaven and Hell" pointedly captured that sense of an eternal struggle.
It's a war that's not at all unfamiliar to current Black Sabbath members Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler as they've consistently wrestled with the devils and angels on their shoulders over the years.
See, despite what conservative types might think, Black Sabbath aren't evil. Or at least not totally evil. They've also accomplished a lot of good over the years. We decided to track some of the...
