"House of Cards" returns for Season 2 on Netflix on Friday, Feb. 14 -- happy Valentine's Day, right? -- and in preparation, Zap2it is taking a quick look back at the first season. Friday (Feb. 7) we hit the halfway point with "Chapter 6."
Where we are:
It's a month since we last saw the "House of Cards" crew. In that time, the teachers have been striking for weeks, so Frank has to act because President Walker wants to cave.
Frank's plan is three-tiered. First, he stages an "attack" on his own house, having his chief of staff Doug throw a brick through the window while his protective detail is being offered coffee by Claire. After Agent Meechum (Nathan Darrow) fires his weapon at the dark figure of Doug running away, he is initially fired for his recklessness at discharging his gun in a residential neighborhood, but Frank eventually gets him his job back.

Female filmmakers in the sci-fi and fantasy genre will be celebrated with the first ever Etheria Film Festival, to be held in September 2012.
Etheria is the brainchild of film journalist Heidi Honeycutt and the Viscera Organisation, a not-for-profit group dedicated to increasing the visibility of female genre filmmakers.
Last month, the Viscera Film Festival Carpet Ceremony put the spotlight on up-and-coming women directors in the horror genre with a programme of new short films and a celebrity judging panel of industry veterans.
A Viscera spokeswoman said: "The Viscera Film Festival has been showcasing the best in emerging female horror film talent since 2007.
"But why stop with horror? There are talented women filmmakers across every genre. The Etheria Film Festival is the only film festival in the world that screens, exclusively, the best new short science fiction and fantasy films directed by women from around the globe."

The theme of BleedFest's March 6th event is FantAsian: Fantasy and musicals by female Asian filmmakers, and they're showing Anna Biller's short films Three Examples of Myself as a Queen, which involve really strong fantasy elements.
Biller is best known for her awesome spoof of the sexual revoultion called Viva, but Three Examples of Myself as a Queen showcases her strongest attribute- her art direction skills, which are beyond compare. Watching an Anna Biller film is like falling into another world. A Visit from the Incubus and Fairy Ballet are by far some of the most engrossing shorts of the past decade of independent women's films. This chance to see Biller, in person, with her works, is a must for any fan of the gorgeous or the fantastical in movies.
Bleedfest (www.bleedfest.com) is also holding a book drive for Bridge to Asia and a fundraiser...

*Full disclosure: a screener of this film was provided by director Carly Lyn.
Director/writer: Carly Lyn.
A foundling is defined as an abandoned child, from multiple sources and this first feature film from Carly Lyn premiered in 2010, with another showing at Bleedfest earlier this month. Lyn's film blends the western and sci-fi genres for mixed results. The message of family unity is noble, but the execution is sometimes frustrating. Sisters, Virginia (Cindy Chiu) and Mattie (Nora Jesse) find a common bond in the deserts of California, along with snub-nosed child. Slow pacing is the end result.
To flesh out the plot a little: Virginia travels by horseback to reunite with her "long lost sister" (Foundling). A harlot, Mattie is happy to be found, but also concerned with a crash landed alien. A bite here, an extraterrestrial visiting there and soon Mattie is succumbing to a strange disease. Enter...

Plus: Advance buzz on Help Wanted has been so intense that a second screening has been added for Monday, Sept. 27 at 9:00 p.m. at the Revolution Cafe in San Francisco’s Mission District. If you’re in the Bay Area, make it to one screening or go to both!
Help Wanted follows a young man on an interview for what appears to be the worst job of all time. While the details of that job are being kept secret, let’s just say it involves a warehouse and dead bodies.
