Hello, and welcome to the Scene to Seen Podcast!
I am Valerie Complex Associate editor and film writer at Deadline. On today’s episode, we’re talking to documentarian Nancy Kates, director of PBS documentary Brother Outsider: The Life Of Bayard Rustin, about the civil rights activist and the architect of the March on Washington in 1963.
The documentary chronicles his 60-year career as an activist, organizer and “troublemaker.” Bayard Rustin formulated many of the strategies that propelled the American civil rights movement. His passionate belief in Gandhi’s philosophy of nonviolence drew Martin Luther King Jr. and other leaders to him in the 1940’s and 50’s; his practice of those beliefs drew the attention of the FBI and police. In 1963, Rustin brought his unique skills to the crowning glory of his civil rights career: his work organizing the March on Washington, the biggest protest America had ever seen.

George Zimmerman not guilty, Eli Lieb’s “Young Love,” and Coffee Town thinks being straight is really gay
While I’m avoiding most of the more unseemly articles I’ve seen about the sad death of Cory Monteith that are everywhere, there is the question of what happens to Glee without him. The show was scheduled to start shooting a week from today, so undoubtedly most of the season was written, and Finn was a core character to the show and the dynamic of the ensemble.
The Arkansas Attorney General has rejected the language for the ballot proposal to repeal the constitutional ban on marriage equality in the state. “Specifically, rather than simply describing Amendment 83 to the Arkansas Constitution (the amendment proposed to be repealed), your proposed ballot title asserts an abridgment of undefined ‘rights’ and seems to presume Amendment 83’s illegality in terms of federal law and the laws of other states.

Washington -- Women including sports icon Billie Jean King and actress Jane Lynch are starting a super Pac on Wednesday that they hope will ncrease the political power of the lesbian community.
The organization, called Lpac, will provide financial backing to pro-lesbian candidates, whether Democrats or Republicans, male or female, gay or straight. The group intends to back federal and state candidates, as well as some ballot measures. All targets of the group's support must back an end to discrimination for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals; reproductive rights and access to quality health care; and social, racial and economic justice.
Group members said they have pledges of $200,000 and hope to raise at least $1 million for the 2012 elections. High-profile supporters include King, Lynch, Chicago Cubs co-owner Laura Ricketts and Lgbt leader Urvashi Vaid.
