The film we’ll call Star Trek 4 has a new screenwriter, but it seems that nobody at Paramount told Chris Pine. “I thought there was already a script,” he said.
One of the fascinating elements in Paramount’s near decade-long attempt to make a sequel to Star Trek Beyond is Chris Pine’s response to the meandering saga.
Last November, when asked about the status of what we’ll call Star Trek 4 for now, the Captain Kirk actor simply said, “I don’t know anything. In Star Trek land, the actors are usually the last people to find out anything. I know costume designers that have read scripts before the actors.”
A few months later – in March 2024, to be more precise – it was announced that Paramount and Bad Robot had embarked on a new attempt to make a sequel to 2016’s Star Trek: Beyond. The film would bring...

Eight years after the last Star Trek film, Chris Pine is among the many who would like to know if there’s another voyage planned.
Pine is making the rounds to promote his new film, Poolman, and didn’t have anything to share on when the space franchise may be refreshed.
“I honestly don’t know,” Pine told Business Insider this week when asked about a new Star Trek. “There was something in the news of a new writer coming on board. I thought there was already a script, but I guess I was wrong, or they decided to pivot. As it’s always been with Trek, I just wait and see.”
Pine was clear that communication from Paramount about the franchise has been fairly minimal ever since the release of Star Trek Beyond in 2016.
While television and streaming have lots of Star Trek projects, there has been no movement on a film.

Chris Pine was taken by surprise when news hit that Steve Yockey, creator of the Max series “The Flight Attendant,” had signed on to write the script for “Star Trek 4.” Why? “I thought there was already a script,” the actor recently told Business Insider during an interview on his “Poolman” press tour.
Pine’s not wrong, as a potential “Star Trek 4” has gone through multiple iterations in the years since the 2016 release of “Star Trek Beyond.” Pine took on the role of Captain Kirk in J.J. Abrams’ 2009 franchise reboot “Star Trek,” and reprised the character in 2013’s “Star Trek Into Darkness” and 2016’s “Beyond.” Variety exclusively reported in March that Paramount Pictures remained committed to making a fourth “Star Trek” film to be headlined by Pine and his co-stars.

It’s not always easy to find out which movies hit theaters each week, especially after the Hollywood strikes led to many release date changes. With the WGA and actors strikes resolved and summer blockbusters starting to roll in, May is filled with both big budget flicks and new indie releases.
Premiering May 10 is Wes Ball’s “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” the newest installment in the “Apes” franchise about a young chimp who must save his clan from the evil king Proximus Caesar starring Owen Teague, Freya Allen, Kevin Durand, Peter Macon and William H. Macy. Also hitting theaters is Chris Pine’s directorial debut “Poolman,” a noir comedy about a pool cleaner who stumbles upon a mystery at a Los Angeles apartment block starring Pine, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Danny DeVito and Annette Bening. Two films getting limited releases this week are “Lazareth,” a thriller following a...

Image created by “Shutterstock.AI” Star Trek fans are well aware that the franchise will celebrate its 60th anniversary in a couple of years. But what might seem unbelievable to some is that the Star Trek reboot, directed by J.J. Abrams, celebrates its 15th anniversary. While the fate of the reboot series has been up in the air for quite some time — several ideas have been developed and discarded since 2016’s Star Trek Beyond — Chris Pine would certainly enjoy getting the chance to play Capt. James T. Kirk once again. As Pine once said playing Kirk was about as much fun as anybody could ever have on a movie set. Review: (Note – Poolman Was Reviewed At TIFF 2023) In the fourteen years I’ve been covering TIFF, I’ve seen only a handful of movies that I’d say were shockingly bad. The Mickey Rourke/ Megan Fox/ Bill Murray dud Passion Play comes to mind. Poolman ranks with the worst movies I’ve ever reviewed at JoBlo. It’s a stunningly unfunny comic noir vanity project for star Chris Pine, who also directed and co-wrote the film. That it was made at all is a testament to the power of celebrity, as it has already become notorious at the festival for the amount of walkouts taking place at the screenings.

Chris Pine unarguably looks effortlessly perfect in every single role he dons, and the same was the case when he played the fan-favorite character of Steve Trevor in the Wonder Woman franchise. Yet, as immaculately as he performed in this role that went on to win the hearts of fans from all across the globe, what’s surprising is that the actor actually never wanted to play him.

Although it may seem unbelievable to many, it is only true that Pine rejected the role of the beloved husband-material Steve — not once, but twice. But the reason behind his turning down the iconic part was only understandable because he felt like his character “sounded like a second fiddle,” and he, for one, had “no interest,” whatsoever “in playing the boyfriend” in a superhero movie.

Chris Pine Gets Candid on Wonder Woman 3 Cancellation: "I'm Stunned" - Main Image
Chris Pine recently opened up about the cancellation of Wonder Woman 3 by DC Studios despite the franchise's box office track record.
When James Gunn and Peter Safran took over the management of DC Studios in late 2022, Wonder Woman 3 was one of the projects that were shelved, abruptly ending the tenure of Gal Gadot as the iconic hero.
The franchise has since then moved forward with the new Dcu reboot that is set to introduce a new incarnation of Wonder Woman. So far, no new actress has been cast in the role yet.

As director Patty Jenkins confirms that Wonder Woman 3 was axed by Warner Bros, co-star Chris Pine has expressed his befuddlement at the decision.
Director Patty Jenkins, who made 2017’s Wonder Woman and its 2020 sequel Wonder Woman 1984, has confirmed that the third film in the series is essentially dead. And with the whole DC Universe now in the process of being rebooted by James Gunn, it’s likely that the whole timeline (and its characters) established by Jenkins has come to an end.
Chris Pine, who co-starred as dashing pilot Steve Trevor in Jenkins’ movies, has expressed his amazement that Warner Bros didn’t proceed with Wonder Woman 3 – a project Jenkins worked on for at least a few months before it was cancelled in December 2022.

Chris Pine is sharing his thoughts on DC axing a third installment of Wonder Woman.
The actor, who starred in 2017’s Wonder Woman and 2020’s Wonder Woman 1984, recently told Business Insider that he was “stunned” after learning a third movie in the superhero franchise wasn’t happening.
“I’m stunned that they said no to a billion-dollar franchise and decided to pivot elsewhere,” the Poolman director said. “I don’t know what the reasoning was behind that; it’s above my pay grade, but Wonder Woman is an incredible character. Patty [Jenkins] is such a thoughtful director.”
Pine played Steve Trevor, the love interest of Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince/Wonder Woman character, in the first two movies; however, he noted that he wouldn’t have been involved in a third film.

Chris Pine’s role in the DC Universe was certainly iconic. Being one of the most beloved actors in the industry, his portrayal of Steve Trevor in the Wonder Woman franchise came with nothing short of appreciation. Especially following the course of the first movie, his ultimate sacrifice touched the hearts of many, making it cruel to learn that his appearance in the sequel was next to nothing.

William Shatner recently told Canadian Press that he wouldn’t rule out returning as Captain Kirk in a new “Star Trek” project if the script impressed him. While the actor’s age might pose an issue as Shatner turned 93 years old in March, that’s nothing a bit of de-aging technology couldn’t fix.
“It’s an intriguing idea,” Shatner said about returning as Kirk. “It’s almost impossible. But if was a great role and so well-written and if there were a reason to be there not just to make a cameo appearance, but if there were a genuine reason for the character appearing, I might consider it.”
Shatner suggested that he could play a younger version of the Starship Enterprise captain through de-aging technology, similar to how 80-year-old Harrison Ford turned up as a much younger Indiana Jones (circa the character’s age in “Raiders of the Lost Ark...

Chris Pine felt like more than a million bucks after being cast in “Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement” — he felt like $50 million, to be exact. Not that he made anywhere near that sum.
During an upcoming appearance on NBC News’ “Sunday Today with Willie Geist,” Pine recalled how joining the 2004 sequel film proved to be a pivotal point in his career. Pine played Prince Nicholas Devereaux who tries to woo Princess Mia (Anne Hathaway) in her ancestral home country of Genovia.
“It was the height of summer and I was getting off at Magnolia. I was on my little Verizon tiny little flip phone, my silver one, and I got a call from my agents that I booked the job,” Pine said. “I pulled over onto the side of the freeway and they said, ‘You’re getting paid $65,000,’ and it was like they had just told me I’d made $50 million.

In a preview from his conversation with Willie Geist for Sunday Today, Chris Pine looked back at how much his role as Anne Hathaway’s love interest in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement impacted his career.
Pine recalled the exact moment he got the life-changing call saying he had been cast as Nicholas Devereaux. He was on the freeway, driving his 1972 BMW that he owned since he was 16, at a time in his life when he had only booked small TV roles.
“I got a call from my agent saying I booked the job, and I pulled over to the side of the freeway, and they said, ‘You’re getting paid $65,000,'” said the actor. “It was like they had just told me I’d make $15 million.”
Pine shared that getting the call was “absolutely earth-shattering” as he was severely struggling financially. “I had an overdraft on my bank account.

In 2022, Nicholas Galitzine was on the main stage of “Coachella”, flanked by bandmates Jaiden Anthony, Raymond Cham Jr., Vik White, and Dakota Adan.
Surrounding them were 5,000 screaming fans, chanting at the top of their lungs, “August Moon! August Moon! August Moon!” For most of the guys, who are professional dancers, this was somewhat familiar, they’d performed for much bigger audiences, supporting stars like Beyoncé and Britney Spears, and dancing on national TV. But for Galitzine, this was all brand new.
Under the spotlight, the actor was playing the role of a world famous pop star — one fifth of a massively successful (fictional) boy band. So while the crowd was real, it helped that they weren’t actually in Indio, California for their set, but a couple thousand miles away on a chilly December morning in Atlanta, filming scenes for the Prime Video rom-com film, The Idea of You.

Spoiler Alert: This story discusses plot elements from “The Idea of You,” which is now streaming on Prime Video.
“Don’t you miss those bombastic, blown out pop choruses of the 2010s?” asks Savan Kotecha, the executive producer behind the music of August Moon — the fictional boy band at the center of “The Idea of You,” a new romance film on Prime Video based on a novel by Robinne Lee.
Nicholas Galitzine plays Hayes Campbell, the lead singer of August Moon, who falls in love with an older woman and single mother Solène (Anne Hathaway) after she brings her daughter to the group’s meet-and-greet at Coachella.
Galitzine first showed signs of vocal prowess when he played Prince Charming opposite Camila Cabello in the 2021 movie musical remake of “Cinderella.” But on “The Idea of You,” Galitzine pushes his boundaries, undergoing boy band bootcamp: lessons from Eric Vetro, vocal coach to Ariana Grande,...

Chris Pine made an anti-style statement at the Los Angeles premiere of Poolman to celebrate his directing debut at the Vista Theatre in Los Angeles.
Pine decided to go with a look that no one would ever expect on the red carpet. He rocked a tan jacket with a flower pin, denim shorts and brown boots. He showed his love for Los Angeles with a white shirt, reading, “I heart L.A.”
In the film, Pine stars as an amateur detective in the City of Angels, trying to solve a mystery.
In 2018, Pine spoke about acting in the nude for the film Outlaw King on The Graham Norton Show and shared other people’s reactions.
“I bear the ‘full monty,’ and it got a lot of attention,” he said. “I thought the witty reviews were brilliant, but what struck me most was that Florence Pugh bears everything, too, and no one commented.

Chris Pine’s Hollywood Hills neighbor has claimed the actor is barking up the wrong tree(s). As TMZ reports, Pine and music attorney Helen Yu are entangled in a legal battle over his ficus trees, which she alleges are causing destruction to her property.
According to TMZ, Yu claimed in legal documents that Pine has planted more than a dozen ficus trees. Pine’s trees have allegedly encroached on Yu’s property to such an extent that concrete has been uprooted and damage has been done to her home’s foundation.
It’s worth noting that Ficus benjamina are notorious for their potentially destructive roots. In a 1993 report, the United States Forest Service wrote that the tree’s roots “grow rapidly,” with a propensity for “invading gardens, growing under and lifting sidewalks, patios, and driveways.”
Yu originally filed a lawsuit against Pine in 2022, but the two parties quickly went into mediation.

Chris Pine, Cynthia Erivo, Kieran Culkin, Sharon Stone and Rosie Perez celebrated Jeff Bridges’ seven-decade career at the 49th annual Chaplin Awards Gala in New York City on Monday night. But the Big Lebowski star almost chose a different career path.
During his acceptance speech for the Film at Lincoln Center‘s prestigious honor, the True Grit star shared that he originally “resisted” the idea of pursuing acting full-time for a few different reasons.
“It made me nervous, anxious, and I had other things I wanted to do,” he told the full auditorium at Alice Tully Hall. “I was very much into music. I loved ceramics, painting, and who wants to do what their parents do anyway?”
He recalled his father, actor Lloyd Bridges, explaining to him that he could do all of those things in this career path and use them all to some degree, which was one of the beauties of the job.

A coalition of eight daily newspapers have sued OpenAI and Microsoft for copyright infringement, expanding a growing front in the legal battle over the unauthorized use of articles to power artificial intelligence technology.
The lawsuit, filed in New York federal court on Tuesday, is at least the fourth complaint brought against the Sam Altman-led firm over copyright issues associated with training the automated chatbots that have vaulted the company to a multibillion-dollar valuation and sparked rivals to pour troves of cash into competing technology. It argues that thousands of their articles were used to train the AI systems that power ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot and other products that now effectively compete against them.
The publishers — The New York Daily News, Chicago Tribune, Orlando Sentinel, South Florida Sun Sentinel, San Jose Mercury News, Denver Post, Orange County Register and St. Paul Pioneer Press — are all owned by investment firm Alden Global Capital.

Similar to many other Hollywood biggies, Chris Pine too comes from an acting background, whose parents were once associated with the showbiz. But while they did enjoy modest success, especially his dad, Robert Pine, it did little to change their life around financially, and the late ’80s would turn out to be the toughest period for the Pine family.
The Wonder Woman star, who has cemented himself as a major A-lister since rising to prominence in the late 2000s, recounted this dark period of his life, and how his parents combated the situation.

The Night Manager is one of the most loved British series. The spy thriller is based on John le Carre’s 1993 novel of the same name. The series stars Hugh Laurie as Richard Onslow Roper (Dicky), Tom Hiddleston as Jonathan Pine, Olivia Colman as Angela Burr, Tom Hollander as Major Lance, Elizabeth Debicki as Jemima and others. The series aired in 2016 and received positive reviews.
In The Night Manager, both Tom and Hugh gave exceptional performances. The Loki actor played the spy with such perfection that no one can imagine anyone else as Jonathan Pine. But did you know, that Hugh Laurie once revealed that he wanted to play Tom’s character? Yes, Hugh loved the novel in the 90s itself and wanted to adapt it into a show. However, that didn’t happen until Sussane Beir decided to adapt the book in 2016.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson will star in Hell Or High Water director David Mackenzie’s British thriller Fuze, due to start filming in June.
As we reported in February, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is going to be leading the cast of a new British-set action thriller titled Fuze. While rumours regarding the actor’s chances of being the next 007 refuse to go away, Taylor-Johnson looks to have secured himself another chance to build on his excellent action credentials.
The film is being directed by David Mackenzie, the filmmaker behind 2016’s hugely underrated Hell Or High Water, a Texan bank heist drama starring Chris Pine that is well worth seeking out if you haven’t seen it yet. Following that, Mackenzie collaborated with Pine again on 2018’s Outlaw King, although that film released to a more muted reception.

Zack Snyder’s Dceu didn’t do well because it was too dark and the stories didn’t always make sense. People didn’t always like his choices. Eventually, James Gunn and Peter Safran took over with their Dcu. Some people liked Snyder’s style, but others thought it was too bleak and not true to the characters. Even though most people think the Dceu wasn’t great, it did bring out some really popular superhero movies lately.
One of the big hits was “Wonder Woman.” It did really well and showed there could be more stories about her in the Dceu. Then came the sequel, which came out during Covid-19 and did okay, but not as good as the first one.
Snyder had different ideas for the ‘Wonder Woman’ movie at first, calling it ‘Wonder Woman 1854.’ In an interview with Empire Magazine while promoting his new movie ‘Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scavenger,...

More than thirteen months have gone by since we heard that a second season of the Prime Video and the BBC series The Night Manager was in the works, being developed under the codename of Steelworks. At the time, there were rumblings that The Night Manager might even receive a two-season order… but season 2 and season 3 had not officially been given the greenlight yet at that time. That green light is shining now, though. Deadline broke the news that Prime Video and the BBC are officially moving forward with two more seasons of the show, with Tom Hiddleston remaining in the lead role.

Zack Snyder’s Dceu failed due to its darker tone, inconsistent storytelling, and divisive creative choices until it was ultimately replaced by Gunn’s & Safran’s Dcu. While some appreciated his vision, others found it too grim and disconnected from the iconic characters. Still, despite Dceu being mostly bad, according to general consensus it did give rise to some of the most popular superhero movies in the last few years.
Notably, ‘Wonder Woman,’ was a massive hit and opened a lot of possibilities for the character in the Dceu, soon after, the sequel followed, and released during Covid-19 it still managed to be somewhat successful but nowhere near the first installment.

Tom Hiddleston will reprise his role as Jonathan Pine in two further series of The Night Manager, based on characters created by John Le Carre.
Back in 2018, The Night Manager was a huge hit for the BBC, winning 36 awards including two Emmys, a BAFTA and several Golden Globes.
Adapted from the 1993 novel by John Le Carre, the show followed Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston), the night manager of a high class hotel in Cairo, who is recruited by Angela Burr (Olivia Colman), the manager of a Foreign Office task force, to infiltrate the inner circle of sinister arms dealer Richard Roper (Hugh Laurie).
It was a glossy, big budget production, and writer David Farr expertly crafted Le Carre’s twisty plot into six exhilarating hours of drama.

Fans of The Night Manager, your patience is being rewarded in a major way. When the Tom Hiddleston-starring miniseries adaptation of John Le Carré’s espionage novel hit screens in early 2016, it quickly became a huge mainstream hit – thrilling viewers with its twists and turns, cementing Hiddleston’s on-screen cool factor, and providing another great screen version of Le Carré to sit alongside Tinker Tailor and A Most Wanted Man. But, understandably, people wanted more – and there was considerable chatter about whether there may or may not be more series on the way. Ultimately, nothing ever came to fruition.
Until now. As reported by Deadline, all these years later The Night Manager will indeed be back – and the show is confirmed for not one but two more seasons at least, with Tom Hiddleston returning to star as Jonathan Pine as well as executive-producing. Season 2 is set to film later this year,...
