For fans of "30 Rock," the show's finale delivered a satisfying, hilarious, and at times touching sendoff. The last two episodes embodied what made the quirky Tina Fey project great: crisp writing, sturdy characterizations, and a strong ensemble cast. But the process of creating those final moments looked more like an episode of "30 Rock" itself, one filled with chaos, late nights, and frenzied rewrites.
In an article for Buzzfeed, former "30 Rock" writer Tom Ceraulo reflected on the last days of the NBC sitcom. Although the last table read was set for the Thursday after Thanksgiving in 2012, the writers had not...

With so much hype surrounding shows’ Christmas and Halloween specials, it’s easy to forget that there have been some great St. Patrick’s Day episodes in the TV world. So here are a lucky seven episodes that’ll get you excited to celebrate the holiday! Or make you want to stay at home and chill, since all are available to stream on Netflix.
“30 Rock”
Like a double rainbow, “30 Rock” gave its fans not one, but two reasons to get excited, as it aired two St. Patrick’s Day episodes in 2009 and 2012. However, the 2009 episode, “The Funcooker,” is the standout. Written by Tom Ceraulo and Donald Glover, the episode sees Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) attend jury duty, in which the woman on trial hilariously reflects Liz’s own work problems. She must also juggle problems that arise when her show’s stars (Tracy Morgan and Jane Krakowski) pass out and curse while hosting the St.

30 Rock, Season 7, Episode 10, “Florida”
Written by Tom Ceraulo & Matt Hubbard
Directed by Claire Cowperthwaite
Airs Thursdays at 8pm Et on NBC
“Florida” proves a nice bounce back from “Game Over,” whose title, it now seems, overstated things. Over the last year or so, 30 Rock has proven to be better at doing focused, character-driven episodes rather than sprawling omnibus episodes that attempt to incorporate every character, and that is the case here. Jack talks Liz into accompanying him to the titular state in order to tie up the remaining affairs with his mother’s estate and Tracy and Jenna realize they are in charge of things, which goes about as well as you would expect it to.
The A-plot serves to deepen Jack’s understanding of his mother while addressing any sexual tension that may have built up between he and Liz over the past seven years. The B-plot tracks Hazel...

Chicago – NBC/Universal released a wave of Blu-ray and DVD releases last week as four of their comedies came home with “30 Rock: Season 6,” “The Office: Season Eight,” “Parks and Recreation: Season Four,” and “Up All Night: Season One.” For some reason, “The Office” is the only NBC comedy available in HD (with an UltraViolet copy to boot) but all four sets are well-transferred and three of them feature impressive bonus material. Get your laugh on.

Community, Season 3, Episode 13, “Digital Exploration of Interior Design”
Written by Chris McKenna
Directed by Dan Eckman
Airs Thursdays at 8pm Et on NBC
Dan Harmon had said he wanted to work more serialization into season 3 and this is one of the first episodes that really bears that out. It draws on Shirley and Pierce’s desire to open up a sandwich shop in “Urban Matrimony and Sandwich Arts,” deepens the rift growing between Troy and Abed and furthers Dean Laybourne’s scheming to recruit Troy into the Air Conditioning Repair School. It also features callbacks to Annie and Jeff’s season one make out session and, of course, the blanket fort in “Conspiracy Theory and Interior Design.” Oh yeah, and this is only part one of a two-parter.
It seems the war brewing between Troy and Abed and the former’s desire to be more than Reggie to the latter...

The Writers Guild of America East and West announced in October 2010 that for the first time in its then 62 years of honoring excellence in film, television, and radio, its WGA Awards would also recognizing outstanding writing in new media. The writers of Anyone But Me and 30 Rock’s Frank vs. Lutz online series were the honored recipients of two new awards added to the WGA’s 63rd annual ceremony. Susan Miller and Tina Cesa Ward took home a trophy evocative of a dorsal fin for Oustanding Acheivement in Writing Original New Media (an award online originals) and Jon Haller received the Oustanding Achievement in Writing Derivative New Media (an award for the online companions to preexisting television shows). The WGA just recently announced the individuals and shows with the potential to follow in the aforementioned winners' footsteps. 2012 Writers Guild Award Nominations
The 2012 Writers Guild Award nominations were announced yesterday and as with the Emmys cable led the drama categories. Previous nominees Boardwalk Empire and Breaking Bad and new series Homeland all racked up 3 nominations in the drama field. The Good Wife is the only network drama featuring in the Drama Series category, with Dexter getting the other slot and sadly Friday Night Lights missed out.
If you're wondering where Mad Men is; the field of eligibility for these awards runs from December, 1 2010 until November 30, 2011. This makes the Writers Guild Awards similar to the Golden Globes rather than the Emmys regarding the submission time frame. The last new episode of Mad Men aired in October 2010 so it can't be included; yes it has been more than a year since there was new episode of Mad Men.
Network fared much better in the comedy front with Emmy success Modern Family...

As soon as we thought we could predict the outcome of the Oscars, here comes another surprise! This one's brought to you by the Writers Guild of America. Picked for Best Original Screenplay was Christopher Nolan's "Inception." The director, famously dissed for not getting a Best Director Oscar nomination, may just win the Best Original Screenplay come Oscar night. Oscar front-runner, "The King's Speech" was not nominated because it didn't quality under union rules which prompted Nolan to say during his WGA acceptance award that he looked forward to a time when he could accept the award "without qualification."
That could be the beginning of a great script Mr. Nolan, go write it :happy
For adapted screenplay, I'm happy to report that Aaron Sorkin's fantastic script won! Based on "The Accidental Billionaires" by Ben Mezrich, "The Social Network" was the only film last year that I predicted to win this very category.

Chicago – Time flies quickly in the world of television. Look no further than the fact that NBC’s “30 Rock” has become one of the elder statesmen of the sitcom. As new shows like “Glee” and “Modern Family” stole headlines, Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin’s brilliant creation kept knocking them out of the park. It never set the ratings on fire, but there’s no denying that this is still one of the best comedies on television.
DVD Rating: 4.0/5.0
Recognizing that the program’s strength has always been in its ensemble, Universal put Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Jack McBrayer, Tracy Morgan, and Jane Krakowski on the cover of the recently released fourth season. They’re all great and the latest year of “30 Rock” also included some fantastic guest appearances including Matt Damon, Jon Hamm, and James Franco. I think the show can sometimes push the revolving door of guest stars a bit too quickly,...

The Writers Guild of America honored The Hurt Locker and Up in the Air at their ceremony on Saturday night, firmly establishing the films as front-runners in their respective Oscar categories.
Mark Boal certainly deserves the accolades after embedding himself with an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team in Baghdad in 2004 and turning his journalist findings into a dramatic original screenplay. In his speech Boal thanked director Kathryn Bigelow for supporting “an unpopular story about an unpopular war that has now lasted twice as long as WWII with no end in sight.”
Jason Reitman and Sheldon Turner picked up the prize for their adaptation of Walter Kirn’s novel, and Mark Monroe won for the moving documentary The Cove.
The WGA Awards are a somewhat reliable indicator of the Academy Awards. ”Original Screenplay” has matched 10 out of the last 15 years, and “Adapted” has lined up 11 of 15, including Milk and Slumdog Millionaire last year.

As hard as it may be to believe sometimes, someone (or someones) actually sits down and writes a movie or TV show before you end up seeing it at your local multiplex or on your favorite TV network. The people who do the sitting and the writing are, surprisingly, called writers and, like the Directors, the Golden Globes and the Oscars, they have their own awards show.
This week, the Writers Guild of America, which is the trade group and advocate for writers, announced its nominations for outstanding achievement in feature film and television, radio, news, promotional writing, and graphic animation during the 2009 season to be honored at the upcoming 2010 Writers Guild Awards on February 20, 2010, in Los Angeles and New York.
We realize that these nominations may not be as glamorous as the Golden Globes or the Oscars, but we kinda like writers around here and think they do a pretty important job.

Awards heavyweights "Mad Men," "30 Rock" and "The Office" and buzzed-about newcomer "Modern Family" led the TV field for the 2010 Writers Guild Awards with three nominations each.
AMC's "Mad Men" and NBC's "30 Rock" and "The Office" are in the running for best drama/comedy series, and each received two nominations for episodic writing. "Family" made the cut for best comedy series, best new series and best episodic writing for a comedy series.
ABC's "Family" was one of two new shows to break into the best series categories along with Fox's quirky high-school dramedy "Glee," which faces "Family" in the best comedy series and best new series fields.
While the WGA Awards are still in its nomination phase, Fox's "The Simpsons" can already uncork the champagne. The veteran series is assured to win the animation category after landing all five nomination slots.
The biggest surprise among the series nominees was HBO's low-key baseball comedy "Eastbound & Down,...
