Doctor Who mastermind Russell T. Davies is weighing in on the controversy surrounding Netflix‘s smash hit series Baby Reindeer.
The writer said in an interview with The Times that the BBC would have been “much stricter” when it comes to disguising the real-life identities of the characters created by Scottish comedian Richard Gadd. “Compliance and editorial policy drives us mad here but I sleep at night,” Davies said.
His comments follow a whirlwind of scrutiny for Netflix producers, and even fans of the series, who took it upon themselves to try and unveil the real people depicted on the show, including the trans woman Gadd’s character dates, played by Nava Mau, and the TV producer who sexually assaults him, portrayed by Tom Goodman-Hill.
On Thursday, British host Piers Morgan will interview a woman named Fiona Harvey who claims to be the inspiration behind the show’s stalker, Martha.

Unique formatting, an enjoyable character, and some focus on Vic made for an emotional hour.
The long overdue breakdown and breakthrough for Vic occurred on Station 19 Season 7 Episode 6, and we also got to fill in some of the cracks between seasons via flashbacks.
Also, Vic has to keep her job, and Crisis One will live to see multiple days.
Station 19 Fans and Fanatics, Ellie Mv, Heather M, Haley Whitmire White, and Sara Trimble convened to discuss the episode's best, worst, and most confusing moments.
Join the discussion below.
What's your opinion on the flashback formatting used for this episode? Did you need clarification on the timeline?
Ellie: My opinion on the flashbacks is that they were poorly used.
Following the episode's timeline was confusing and hard, so I was completely lost. And if they were supposed to be flashbacks, why have they not done some details like Maya's hair just like they did with Vic?...

Richard Osman is making claims that “everyone” in the industry knows who abused Richard Gadd, the star and creator of the Netflix series Baby Reindeer.
The author and television presenter discussed the controversy surrounding the show in his podcast, The Rest Is Entertainment.
Osman claims that Gadd has been “very open to people in the industry” about who sexually assaulted him.
Baby Reindeer is a semi-autobiographical series based on his one-man show. In the series, Gadd portrays Donny, a stand-up comic who is stalked by a woman named Martha and uncovers his past trauma of sexual abuse from an established television writer.
“As you say, there’s a very, very serious thing that happens with a male comedy producer and Richard Gadd, who, as you say, did the show in Edinburgh and has been very open to people in the industry about who that person was, so people in the...

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from “With So Little to Be Sure Of,” the sixth episode of the final season of ABC’s “Station 19.”
Boris Kodjoe is ready to start his next chapter. Since wrapping production last month on the final season of ABC’s venerable firefighter drama “Station 19,” the 51-year-old actor — who rose to fame in the early aughts in the Showtime drama “Soul Food” — has set his sights on broadening his horizons.
Chief among them is working more behind the camera. After directing his wife (and former “Soul Food” costar) Nicole Ari Parker in the Lifetime movie “Safe Room,” Kodjoe expressed an interest in helming an episode of “Station 19,” and his wish was granted midway through the show’s final 10-episode run. It was the ideal training ground for Kodjoe, whose exacting nature earned him a special nickname on set.

With so many detective stories littering media of all types, it takes a fresh spin to break through the noise and legacy of the concept. And though older people solving murders is hardly the newest idea, TV host/author Richard Osman has certainly found one that works with his The Thursday Night Murder Club book series. Having sold the rights to Steven Spielberg back in 2020 when the first book hit big, the film version is now trundling out of the development phase with Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren and Sir Benjamin of the mighty land of Kingsley aboard to star.
The books feature the four members of the titular society, who decide to fill their otherwise tranquil lives in a peaceful retirement village with a little more fun, meeting weekly to discuss unsolved crimes.

Richard Osman’s best-selling murder mystery novel The Thursday Murder Club is being adapted into a film by writer-director Chris Columbus, with Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren and Ben Kingsley to star.
For a while there, Richard Osman was more widely known in the UK as the clever chap with the laptop on TV quiz show Pointless. In 2020, though, Osman published his debut novel, The Thursday Murder Club, a mystery thriller considered to be such hot property that Amblin Entertainment – Steven Spielberg’s production company – snapped up the rights before it was even on shelves.
It’s now reported that Chris Columbus, of Mrs Doubtfire and Harry Potter fame, is to write and direct the adaptation for Amblin. According to Deadline, the film has already attracted an impressive cast, with Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren (pictured) and Ben Kingsley announced so far.

Back in 2020, it was announced that Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again director Ol Parker would be following that film up by taking the helm of The Thursday Murder Club, an adaptation of the debut novel by Richard Osman (creator and co-presenter of the BBC quiz show Pointless), for Amblin. Given that Parker’s involvement was announced just days before the pandemic lockdowns, it’s not surprising to hear that iteration of the project didn’t hold together… but The Thursday Murder Club is still moving forward. Home Alone and Harry Potter director Chris Columbus is now attached to direct the film, and Variety reports that Pierce Brosnan (GoldenEye), Helen Mirren (The Queen), and Ben Kingsley (Iron Man 3) are being eyed for three of the four the lead roles!
The Thursday Murder Club will tell the story of four septuagenarian friends who live in a retirement community and solve cold cases for fun.

As upset as we may be that Station 19 is being forcibly ended by ABC, we can’t say that new showrunners Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige aren’t sending the Grey’s Anatomy spinoff out with a spectacular bang. They’ve all done it. Agatha Christie invented Ariadne Oliver. Kurt Vonnegut invented Kilgore Trout. Stephen King invented Paul Sheldon… Novelists can’t resist putting novelists at the centre of their books, often for sly satires on fandom, fame and the publishing world itself. Now, mega-successful crime author Richard Osman has written a book about a mega-successful crime author.
Osman announced last year that he was planning to take a break from his best-selling retirement village-set The Thursday Murder Club series, and writing a brand new novel. Now, he’s announced the first details of that book, and revealed its cover and title. Out in September 2024, Richard Osman’s next book published by Penguin Books will be We Solve Murders.
As explained in the video below, We Solve Murders is the story of an unlikely trio doing just that, but unlike the mismatched retirement community Thursday gang, these characters are globe-trotting sleuths.

The nine-time Emmy nominee has used music as a storytelling tool, extending the voices of her complex and comedic characters — from the groundbreaking series Insecure and to her current adventure Rap Sh!t to the web series that launched her career, The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl.
“Music elevates the storytelling of everything. I write to music, [and] you can have a scene that plays out great but music will add that little bit of tension, or that spark, or that feeling. It will cement a scene in your brain,” she tells The Hollywood Reporter. “There are so many songs that I associate with specific scenes that have also, in turn, affected my life and my memories, and it just adds an extra feeling to that song. Malbatt: Misi Bakara tells the story of the 19th Malay Regiment of the Malaysian Battalion (Malbatt) that volunteered to assist the US Army to rescue the American soldiers stuck in Bakara market in Somalia during the country’s civil war. The episode that occurred in 1993 was the central plot point of Ridley Scott’s 2003 film “Black Hawk Down,” but there was hardly any mention of the heroics of the Malay Regiment in that film. Malbatt: Misi Bakara retells the story from the Malaysian perspective and refines the plot, adding another layer of truth that has remained hidden so far. People often remember the heroics of the American military, and some question, ad nauseam, if they truly were the heroes if they went to ‘save’ a country.

“Succession” star Hiam Abbass will play a role that is the polar opposite of Marcia Roy in French-Lebanese director Danielle Arbid’s age-gap drama “Love Conquers All.”
The Palestinian actor — who in the HBO series played the third and final wife of billionaire Logan Roy — will next star as Susan, a 65-year-old impoverished widow living in Beirut. There, she meets Osman, a young Sudanese immigrant worker without papers. They instantly fall in love.
The “Love Conquers All” project is being shopped in Saudi Arabia at the Red Sea Film Festival co-production platform Red Sea Souk by producers Georges Schoucair and Omar El Kadi, who say this could be the first feature Abbass will appear in after “Succession.”
The idea is that, while in “Succession” Abbass plays the shrewd wife of a very rich man, in “Love Conquers All” “the protagonists are both poor,” El Kadi told Variety. “What Danielle wants...

Aida Osman may be just beginning her acting career, but she's no stranger to the entertainment world. The Nebraska native stars in Issa Rae's "Rap Sh!t" as Shawna - one half of the show's central rap duo and a character she helped create specifically for herself. Before her TV debut, Osman started out as a writer on Netflix's "Big Mouth" and HBO's "Betty," also serving as a cohost on the "Keep It!" podcast. However, Osman's gig on her HBO Max show isn't her first time flexing her creativity.
After graduating from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2018, Osman built a following on Twitter a year later from a funny viral video of her rapping about . . . err, pegging. From there, her career took off as she booked her "Big Mouth" job almost immediately after, per Vanity Fair.
Fast forward a few years, and Osman has made a huge splash in the hip-hop-inspired "Rap Sh!

The first and second seasons of The Tailor take the viewer through the complicated life of the famous Turkish fashion designer Peyami Dokumaci and the friendship he shares with Dimitri and his wife Esvet. As season two ended on a happy note, there is not a lot waiting for the audience in the third installment of this romantic drama. The Turkish Netflix original series is directed by Cem Karci and released on the streaming platform on November 3, 2011.
This eight-episode third season is about Esvet and Peyami trying to keep as much distance from each other as possible. While Peyami is busy expanding his business, Dimitri and Esvet are on a holiday, trying to spend some time as husband and wife. Dimitri still has doubts about something simmering between his wife and best friend, but he is not willing to believe it. As Peyami arrives in Turkey after a long trip,...

“Everyone shouts out ‘Helen Mirren! Julie Walters! Dame Judi Dench!’ in the street at me all the time,” said Richard Osman in 2021, which is mad because he doesn’t even look anything like them, and must make it weird when he goes out to buy his morning latte.
Only kidding. After the millions of books he’s sold, there’s no way Richard Osman buys his own morning latte.
People are shouting those names at the author of the mega-successful Thursday Murder Club series as casting suggestions for the lead roles in the forthcoming movie adaptations. That’s who they want to see playing retired nurse Joyce – a terrible flirt (in that she excels at it) with a core of absolute steel and a person you’d absolutely want in your corner, and former British Intelligence agent Elizabeth – a great mind who can scheme a way out of any situation...

The bestselling author of hit novel series The Thursday Murder Club has revealed that he was approached by the security services and interviewed for the role of spy.
Richard Osman, who is a TV personality in the UK as well as the bestselling author of the record-breaking crime fiction series, told The Guardian newspaper that he received the traditional “tap on the shoulder” from MI6 – the Secret Intelligence Service which runs espionage operations overseas, as the UK equivalent of the CIA – during his time as a student at Cambridge University.
Osman revealed that he had proceeded to the interview stage but had failed the tests he was set by a series of strangers “who got older and posher throughout the day.”
“They just said, ‘No, it’s fine’,” he said of the end of the process. And he added: “I would have been terrible. I’m too tall [6ft 7in], not bright enough,...

Max is pushing back the second season of its comedy Rap Sh!t by three months in the latest strike-related scheduling move.
The series, which stars Aida Osman and KaMillion as estranged high school friends who form a rap duo, had been slated to premiere on Aug. 10. Max has moved the date back to Nov. 9.
The change serves two purposes for the Warner Bros. Discovery streamer: It will give Max new programming in the fall, which could become increasingly sparse if strikes by Hollywood writers and actors continue into the autumn. And should the unions and the media companies they’re striking against work out deals before then, the show’s stars and producers would be able to promote the new season.

The Tailor, the Turkish Netflix series, is all about dysfunctional family dynamics with over-the-top theatrics. Many topics have been explored through this show, and somehow it managed to become interesting and engaging by the end of the second season. The story of a long-standing friendship between the two protagonists and the ups and downs they go through because of a misunderstanding forms the crux of the show. The misunderstanding reaches a point where it creates a big rift, an argument, and a reconciliation. But where does the character Kiraz fit into this saga?
From the beginning of The Tailor, it is established that Peyami, one of the leading fashion designers in the city, is struggling with his issues. Right at the start of the show, we’re shown the death of Peyami’s grandfather, who was his mentor and father figure and helped him with tailoring, because of which he became a renowned fashion designer.

Before his 2023 coronation as the United Kingdom’s king, Charles already had a smaller-scale investiture 54 years prior. At the age of just 20, Charles was crowned Prince of Wales. His mother, Queen Elizabeth, planned for her son to take the title in a grand ceremony held in the country he would rule over. However, the royal crown makers, in their haste to finish the Prince of Wales’ coronet on time, hid a secret object atop Charles’ crown.
King Charles wore a coronet with a hidden object atop it during his 1969 investiture ceremony as Prince of Wales | Anwar Hussein/Getty Images What secret object was hidden at King Charles’ Prince of Wales coronet?
Believe it or not, there was no official Prince of Wales coronet when Queen Elizabeth had one made for her eldest son. Therefore a royal crown maker was commissioned to create a new modern topper for Charles.
Louis Osman designed the crown.

New Delhi, Dec 25 (Ians) There is hardly a top footballer in the country who hasn’t gone through the grind of the Hero Santosh Trophy at some stage of his career in the last eight decades.
Starting from Talimeren Ao, the first captain of Independent India to present day icon Sunil Chhetri, all had made their presence felt in the National Football Championship at an early age before moving onto the next phase of footballing life.
The influence and impact of the Hero Santosh Trophy, however, hasn’t remained restricted to India – it has travelled beyond its boundaries from its very inception. So much so, when the newly-born nation Pakistan played their first official international tie – a friendly match against Iran – the team was led by the redoubtable Osman Jan, the celebrated custodian, who was actually known for his fabulous exploits in the Santosh Trophy.

The process behind “Seduce & Scheme” was heavy on the scheming.
“We snuck in the writers room and the studio when they were having the sessions for the soundtrack. We wasn’t even supposed to be in there!” says KaMillion, who plays Mia in the Issa Rae-created comedy series “Rap Sh!t” on HBO Max. The series follows Mia and Shawna (Aida Osman), friends from high school who reunite years down the line and form a rap duo that quickly skyrockets to notoriety — at least on the internet. To create the original songs that Shawna and Mia perform, as well as the soundtrack that pays major homage to the show’s Miami setting, Rae’s music company Raedio held “camps” where different rappers and songwriters came together to collaborate.
This process was headed by Sarah Bromberg and Philippe Pierre, the Raedio vice presidents who served as music supervisors on “Rap Sh!

Like the Doctor in the Tardis, the new presenter of University Challenge will know they have a hard act to follow, as Jeremy Paxman’s withering looks and razor-sharp question-mastery have become part of the show’s very identity. And, much like the new Doctor, when the BBC announced it would name University Challenge’s next host later this week, it prompted fierce speculation on social media.
So who could it be? While former Question Time and Newsnight presenters make some obvious choices, the new host will need to be someone with enough time in their schedule, and popular picks like Clive Myrie and Jeremy Vine are already busy with quiz shows Mastermind and Eggheads, respectively.
But that still leaves us with plenty of predictions. Fingers on buzzers! Here’s our starter for ten…

You need to start watching “Rap Sh!t” yesterday.
Created by Issa Rae, HBO Max’s new comedy series follows the story and perspective of Shawna (Aida Osman), an aspiring Miami rapper working at a hotel for the time being. When she teams up unexpectedly with Mia (KaMillion), their impromptu freestyle becomes a viral track and the start of a promising collaboration.
“Rap Sh!t” is hyperspecific, laugh-out-loud funny, and deeply engrossing. Osman and the cast shine with Rae’s once-again winning team of writers and directors. It’s a breakout comedy series that isn’t to be missed.
Here are five (more) reasons to watch “Rap Sh!t” on HBO Max.
1. The Artist’s Struggle
In the very first episode, Shawna laments the state of the rising rap community online, a cacophony of influencers, social climbers, and the appearance-obsessed, all notably lacking in the talent she knows she has. “Rap Sh!t...

CAA has signed writer-director Sadé Clacken Joseph, who most recently directed two episodes of Issa Rae’s “Rap Sh!t,” for representation.
The HBO Max comedy series stars Aida Osman, KaMillion, Jonica Booth and Rj Cyler, with Syreeta Singleton as showrunner. Joseph helmed the pilot and second episode, titled “Something for the City” and “Something for the Girls” respectively. Both launched on July 21 to widespread critical acclaim.
“’Rap Sh!t’ may be grounded in reality, but there’s something lightly surreal about the experience of watching it,” Variety’s Caroline Framke wrote in her review of the series, examining how the comedy “bobs and weaves between its stories and the ones its characters are constantly posting on Instagram.”
Of the visual language of the show, Framke added: “The camera adopts the perspective of their phones as they scroll and Facetime; people watch each other’s stories with suspicion and envy; onscreen...
