London, Aug 5 (Ians) Cricket ball manufacturer Dukes has said it will launch an investigation into the ball change which occurred during Australia’s second innings in the fifth Ashes Test at The Oval to be investigated, following which the visitors lost the match by 49 runs to England.
After Mark Wood hit Usman Khawaja on the helmet with a bouncer on the first delivery of the 37th over on day five’s play, umpires Joel Wilson and Kumar Dharmasena changed the ball, citing that it had gone out of shape. But the replacement ball looked more newer than the previous ball, and completely changed the course of the match as Australia were bowled out for 334 in a chase of 384.
Now, as per a report in Code Sports Australia, whispers coming out of England camp have suggested the replacement ball gifted to them was in fact a five-years’ old version of the...

London, July 31 (Ians) Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has called for the ball change which occurred during Australia’s second innings in the ongoing fifth Ashes Test at The Oval to be investigated, a move which he termed as a ‘huge blunder’.
After Mark Wood hit Usman Khawaja on the helmet with a bouncer on the first delivery of the 37th over, umpires Joel Wilson and Kumar Dharmasena changed the ball, citing that it had gone out of shape.
But the replacement ball looked newer than the previous ball, as Khawaja, David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne were dismissed in quick succession in Australia’s chase of 384.
“The biggest concern I have is the big discrepancy in the condition of the ball that was chosen to replace the one (that had gone out of shape). There’s no way in the world you can even look at those two balls there...

London, July 11 (Ians) Claiming that “it is time for the global game to reset”, the McC World Cricket Committee (Wcc) has proposed for the International Cricket Council (Icc) to establish two strategic funds — one to sustain the Test cricket programme across the world and other for the development of the women’s game.
To help identify nations in need of support to sustain Test cricket, the Wcc has asked Icc to undertake a Test match financial audit to analyze the difference between operational costs and commercial.
This need could be subsequently addressed via a separate Test fund, established to protect the sanctity of Test match cricket, the Wcc recommended following the first meeting of 2023 in Dubai, in which it concluded that the game was at a crossroads with intervention required.
The committee has now released specific recommendations for the Icc to help ensure the long-term prosperity of the men’s and women’s international games.

New Delhi, June 12 (Ians) Australia and India have been handed hefty fines for maintaining slow over rates in the Icc World Test Championship Final held at The Oval.
India slipped to defeat early on day five of the Wtc Final, losing by 209 runs to Australia on Sunday.
An additional 15 minutes were taken at the end of the session to allow the final wicket to be taken, and Nathan Lyon picked up the scalp of Mohammed Siraj to secure Australia the Wtc title.
India have been fined 100 percent of their match fee while Australia docked 80 percent of their match fee due to their sluggish over rates, breaching Article 2.22 of the Icc Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
Article 2.22 relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

New Delhi, Feb 24 (Ians) The McC World Cricket Committee (Wcc) has shown unanimous support to the law regarding the act of bowlers running out non-strikers over leaving their ground early, calling the law not only correct and necessary but issued a ‘call for calm’ to the global game.
The Wcc, which met at the Icc headquarters in Dubai last week, said through a statement that it is now calling for calm across all levels of the game, from the grassroots level of recreational cricket to the elite level, given that the act of running out a non-striker who opts to steal ground is within the Laws of the game.
“The bowler is not the villain here. Every batter has a choice, to stay in their ground, or risk being given out if they try to steal ground. If they choose the latter, they are the ones who are breaking the Law,...
