Since 1983 member of the CDU and the Junge Union, 1985 to 1991 district chairman of the Junge Union Darmstadt-Dieburg, 1990 to 1998 member of the German Council of the Junge Union, 1998 to 2006 district chairman of the CDU Darmstadt-Dieburg, since 1996 district chairman of the Mittelstandsvereinigung (MIT) Südhessen, since 1998 member of the state executive of the CDU Hessen. 1986 to 1990 municipal representative in Weiterstadt; 1989 to 1990 and 2001 to 2005 member of the Darmstadt-Dieburg district council.
