In a sign of the times, long-established entertainment marketing firm M3 Creative has launched a consulting arm after numerous requests from clients for guidance on how to maintain authenticity in an AI-influenced world.
Andy Meyers, director-producer and M3 Creative founder and president, said the creation of the consulting arm dubbed M3 / Target was fueled by incoming calls from longstanding industry associates. Meyers launched M3 Creative in 2003 after getting his start on the staff of “Entertainment Tonight.” The company has since produced marketing campaigns, branded content and digital content extensions of top-tier TV shows and movies from such studios and networks as Disney, ESPN, NBCUniversal, Warner Bros. Discovery, Fox, Paramount and more.
Meyers said he’s been struck by how many entertainment clients are worried about the dilutive effect of AI coming into marketing. As the birth of M3 / Target indicates, a selling point for creative marketing and advertising firms will...

The worldwide rights for cult director Don Coscarelli’s new movie, John Dies At The End, have been picked up by Magnet Releasing. I can get behind any movie that is crafty enough to use the name “Soy Sauce” for a drug that produces out-of-body experiences.

Magnet Releasing has taken it upon themselves to distribute the supernatural sci-fi horror comedy John Dies at the End. I had a chance to see this film while at Sundance earlier this year, and I thought it was an extremely entertaining flick. It's definitely not for everyone because it's such an odd, far out movie, but that's why I liked it so much! It was different kind of wacky than anything else being made.
The film was written and directed by Don Coscarelli (Bubba Ho-Tep), and is an adaptation of the novel written by Cracked.com's David Wong. It stars Paul Giamatti, Chase Williamson as David, Rob Meyers as John, Doug Jones, and Clancy Brown, who plays a badass well known Russian paranormal psychic named Dr. Albert Marconi, who helps John and Dave on a dimensional journey.
Here's the synopsis:
On the street, they call it “soy sauce.” It's a paranormal,...

[Very sad and surprising news here, with the sudden passing of Fortissimo Films founder Wouter Barendrecht.]
Fortissimo Films is deeply saddened to confirm that company founder and co-chairman Wouter Barendrecht died on Sunday, April 5, 2009 in Bangkok, Thailand where he had gone to screen a rough cut of Fortissimo’s upcoming Thai co-production Nymph.
Barendrecht was a passionate advocate of independent cinema for his entire career, the last 19 years of which were at Fortissimo Films and previously at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, where he helped create the Cinemart co-production forum. His sudden death, of heart failure, is an inestimable loss: to his beloved family and co-workers, his international circle of friends, and film-making itself, where his enthusiasm and drive helped create enduring testaments to his memory.
Although just 43 when he died, Barendrecht’s vision helped a generation of film-makers reach a global audience, particularly in Asia where he moved to Hong Kong in 1997 upon the advice of acclaimed director Wong Kar-wai to set up the Fortissimo...
