Marvel has been known to be quite unjust towards specific characters in their collection. The perfect example of this would be Danny Rand, better known as Iron Fist. He is one of the most beloved mystical characters in the Marvel Universe. Despite this, the character has not had the best experience when it comes to live action.

While the fans have contrasting opinions when it comes to the 2017 Netflix series, its cancellation was not appreciated by anyone. However, now that Daredevil is getting another opportunity through Daredevil: Born Again, what is stopping Marvel from doing the same with Rand, and what better opportunity than his 50th anniversary?

Iron Fist made his debut in the world of comics in May 1974 in the fifteenth issue of Marvel Premiere. Created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, the character has become iconic for many different reasons.

Yesterday evening, the news broke that Disney has resurrected the "Marvel Television" banner for future live-action TV shows on Disney+. The hope is that this will allow that division to focus on streaming, while Marvel Studios concentrates on the movies.
It's all part of a plan to get back to quality over quantity after a rocky few years. However, there's a big difference between this Marvel Television and the one which launched in 2010 and was ultimately shuttered in 2019 when Kevin Feige took charge.
The news got us thinking about the original Marvel Television's stint and the many mistakes made under the man in charge, Jeph Loeb. In this feature, we take a look back at their biggest blunders and what Marvel Studios can learn from them.

During the Marvel presentation at Cinemacon this past week, Marvel president Kevin Feige showed off the logo for the “Thunderbolts*” movie coming in 2025. The title now has an asterisk after the name, and many people are wondering if they are going to do “Dark Avengers.”
But who are the Dark Avengers?
The first “Dark Avengers” series ran from 2009 – 2013 and was written spun off from “Secret Invasion.” Basically, the characters are villains or antiheroes who are dressed up like Avengers so people will be more accepting of them. Norman Osborn (Green Goblin) is in charge and is dressed up as an Iron Man knockoff called Iron Patriot.
Osborn is a “reformed villain” who was put in charge of the “Thunderbolts” and later S.H.I.E.L.D., which he renamed H.A.M.M.E.R. From that, he created a new Avengers team made up of villains and antiheroes—something like “Suicide Squad.

Attention: The Following Report Is A Rumor. Please Take The Following Story With A Grain Of Salt.
The return of Charlie Cox as Daredevil has been met with much positivity from fans. The Marvel Netflix shows were fairly popular with five standalone shows with a crossover series The Defenders. Initially not fitting into Marvel’s plans the shows are now being integrated into MCU canon.
Following Cox’s return, there has been much speculation as to who may be next in returning to the world of Marvel. One of the most vocal of those is actor Finn Jones who portrayed Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist. He felt that he wasn’t able to give the character justice and wished for the chance to do so.

It is indisputable that the Netflix series Iron Fist, starring Finn Jones on Netflix, struggled to garner favorable reviews. Scott Buck’s series has a 20% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, with a 71% favorability rating, it somehow garnered slightly higher respect from the review aggregator’s audience.
Its cancellation in 2018 was a further letdown. Since then, fans of the character have expressed a keen interest in seeing Jones reprise his role as Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite years after the show and its lackluster reception, there is a growing call for Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige to give Jones “another chance” to play the iconic martial arts hero on the big screen.

A recent social media post by Iron Fist star Finn Jones fueled speculation the actor could be returning as the Marvel character.
Jones first played martial arts master Danny Rand in Netflix's Iron Fist, which ran for two seasons from 2017 to 2018. He also starred in the crossover series The Defenders and made a cameo appearance in Season 2 of Luke Cage.
Iron Fist received poor reviews upon release, and even Jones admitted it "didn't live up to expectations." However, with the Defenders Saga now officially under the Disney+ umbrella, rumors are rife that the Netflix Marvel stars could make a return in the MCU.

Marvel’s association with Netflix was working well, as they came up with the Defenders Saga, consisting of shows like Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and others. But as the streamer decided to cancel each of them by 2019, Marvel extended their association with Disney+. Soon after, Charlie Cox’s Daredevil got a revival and jumped from Netflix to MCU.

Is Marvel Studios willing to put its dukes up again with Iron Fist? According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, the House of Ideas has a female-led Iron Fist series in the works for Disney+. Marvel Studios recently announced that the studio’s Netflix shows are canon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, paving the way for heroes like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist to mix it up with other characters in the MCU. While Iron Fist is brimming with potential, fans reacted poorly to Finn Jones’s portrayal of the classic Marvel character. The second season of Marvel’s Iron Fist concluded with Colleen Wing (Jessica Chenwick) picking up the torch as the new Iron Fist. Is Marvel plotting Colleen’s return to the MCU, or is this rumor only wishful thinking?

One of the best aspects of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the way anyone can reappear at any time. Even when you think they've forgotten a character like Samuel Sterns (Tim Blake Nelson) from "The Incredible Hulk," he'll come back as the Leader in "Captain America: New World Order." Did anyone expect Julia Louis-Dreyfus' Valentina Allegra de Fontaine to show up in "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever?" And who knew Jimmy Woo (Randall Park) and Darcy (Kat Dennings) would make a great team to investigate the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen)? Putting familiar characters in new combinations is part of the fun of comics, after all.
Sometimes, though, enough is enough. Whether it's dead characters who won't stay dead or bad characters who keep ruining our enjoyment with their presence, some just don't need to come back. Whether a return would cheapen a fantastic exit, belabor a joke, or simply annoy us...

For the most part, Netflix’s universe of Marvel TV shows were enthusiastically received by fans, with the one exception being Iron Fist. Although the series showed improvement with its second season, Iron Fist never got the chance to right the ship when it was cancelled along with all the other Marvel shows on Netflix. With several stars returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Finn Jones told Geekscape Podcast that he would love to return as Iron Fist, if only to prove all the doubters wrong.
Finn Jones starred as Danny Rand, a martial arts expert with the ability to call upon a mystical power known as the Iron Fist. “Of course I would [return]. I’d love another chance,” Finn Jones said. “I care about [Danny Rand] deeply. I believe in that character, I believe there is a lot of work that can be done… I love the underdog narrative. I love...

Finn Jones still hasn't given up on Iron Fist. The live-action Marvel TV/Netflix series "Iron Fist", Seasons One and Two, based on the Marvel Comics characters, follows 'Danny Rand' (Finn Jones), and his supernatural 'Iron Fist', now streaming on Disney +:
"...in Season 2, 'Danny Rand' moves in with his girlfriend 'Colleen Wing', living in her Chinatown, New York City dojo. At night he fights criminals on the streets using the magical power of the 'Iron Fist' and sees an increase in crime between gangs such as the 'Golden Tigers' and the 'Hatchets' following the destruction of the 'Hand' crime organization.
Colleen finds a box bearing the 'kamon' (crest) of her family, who pushed her away years earlier. She begins investigating where the box may have come from, and comes to believe that furniture shop owner 'Frank Choi' may know of its origin.
"But he goes missing when he is unable to pay the Golden Tigers for protection.

Marvel's Netflix shows are far from perfect. Their seasons tend to run too long, they often lean on Orientalist tropes, and some of them feature Danny Rand (I kid... but not really). At the same time, they boast stunning action scenes, are refreshingly adult in terms of their tone and content, and benefit from top-notch casting. That includes Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, which is part of why viewers were excited to see the actor reprise his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe proper with his cameo in "Spider-Man: No Way Home."
The Man Without Fear's subsequent appearance on "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law," however, has proven more divisive. It's understandable; after watching Cox's superhero wrestle with his Catholic faith while leading dual lives as a lawyer and vigilante for years, seeing him crack jokes while flirting and casually hooking up with Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) might come...

So, what’s this then? A new Iron Fist book? Last I saw Danny Rand had lost all his powers. And had blond hair. The guy on the front cover is clearly Iron Fist, but not a blond hair to be seen. Folks, we have a new Iron Fist in town. It’s been established in the past that Iron Fist is a legacy character, in the sense that every generation has an Iron Fist, a brave warrior powered by the supernaturally strong chi of the immortal dragon Shou-Lao the Undying. I guess if Danny has given up the mantle, it’s time for someone new to step up.
Eventually.

If you remember the 2017 Marvel Netflix Iron Fist show, you’ll know that most people didn’t care for it. Colleen Wing, however, was one of the few things about that show that most people actually really liked. Who is she? She was basically Danny Rand’s biggest supporting character, played brilliantly by Jessica Henwick. I would call her his sidekick, but the thing is, she was the more interesting character than Danny Rand himself. And of course, the rather bland performance of Finn Jones from the first season didn’t exactly help either. To his credit, he did much better in the

There are plenty of fans out there that would love to keep hearing that more and more heroes and villains are going to be brought into the MCU since the honest truth is that they miss characters like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Daredevil, and even Foggy Nelson. I want to open this week by reporting on the recent success of my Hero Initiative Auction on eBay. First off I want to thank the four buyers who made it possible to make a £20 donation and from a personal point of view they all left positive reviews to add to my growing seller status. As it averaged out I sold one item for every week the auction ran. While I did have plenty of interest in other listings the buyers pulling the trigger just weren’t there. I feel the auction is something I will revisit yearly. After this years mild success I would have more confidence to start listings lower, especially if they are going to pick up viewers. They may be more inclined to bid with lower starting prices. I think my obvious thought was to start slightly higher so as to make as big a donation as possible.

This article contains some minor spoilers for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
In the pages of Marvel Comics, Shang-Chi is known as the “Master of Kung Fu.” So when Marvel Studios announced the character to help usher in MCU Phase 4, the one thought on every fan’s mind was that whoever gets cast in the lead role better really know Kung Fu.
In the wake of Netflix’s Iron Fist, Marvel’s other Kung Fu master, there was a lot of skepticism. Marvel had scored with the previous Netflix series Daredevil, which delivered some of the best small screen fight choreography we’d ever seen. But Iron Fist was sorely lacking. Today, with beloved movies and shows such as The Avengers, Spiderman, WandaVision, The Dark Knight, Aquaman and Harley Quinn: The Animated Series, it’s hard to have anything overly negative to say about both Marvel and DC. One of the few Marvel characters who didn’t get the proper treatment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist. Oh, but you knew that already if you’ve watched the Marvel Netflix shows. The guy said it plenty of times, at it got old very fast. It’s kind of a shame, because that show can be considered Marvel’s first real flop. And what came after that was the Inhumans show and the entertaining, but ultimately underwhelming Defenders show. The presence of Hong Kong cinematic legend Tony Leung lends authenticity to Marvel’s forthcoming superhero movie
When it comes to Asian superheroes, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has left a lot to be desired. Keen to avoid a backlash when depicting the traditionally stereotyped Mandarin supervillain in Iron Man 3, the studio cleverly cast part-south Asian actor Ben Kingsley as a drunken English luvvie, Trevor Slattery, who was only ever playing the role of Tony Stark’s evil nemesis. The only problem was that this was another role not going to an actor of east Asian extraction.
Then there were the Netflix Marvel TV shows, in particular Iron Fist. While only loosely connected to the MCU, Iron Fist fell into the problematic “white saviour” trap by casting Finn Jones as kung-fu-kicking New York rich kid Danny Rand, a stereotypical white guy who beats the Asian martial arts experts at their own game.

Marvel Studios celebrated Simu Liu’s birthday by giving us all a present: the first trailer for Shang Chi and the Ten Rings. And there’s a lot to get excited about: a ripped Liu kicking several things; some of the best looking fight shots in the MCU to date; Awkwafina being generally delightful.
Watch it here if you haven’t already…
But buried in the middle of the trailer was a very quick flash of something fascinating:
Was that an Iron Fist?

In less than eight weeks, Marvel Studios will have reacquired the rights to all of the former Netflix properties as the two-year hold expires, with The Punisher and Jessica Jones both being canceled on February 18th of last year. Of course, Marvel got the rights back to Iron Fist months ago, but nobody seemed to care based on how painfully mediocre Danny Rand’s solo series turned out to be, with most of the speculation unsurprisingly focusing on Charlie Cox’s Daredevil.
Almost as soon as Netflix’s option expired, the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen found himself linked to an R-rated miniseries, a guest stint on She-Hulk, a standalone movie and a supporting role in Spider-Man 3. There’s every chance that we won’t be seeing Cox at all, of course, but a new fan theory has put forward the idea of Tom Holland’s third outing...

When Netflix started wielding the axe and culling their Marvel shows, it wasn’t exactly a surprise that Iron Fist was first on the chopping block, with Danny Rand’s solo series far and away the weakest of the bunch. However, it did come as a shock to many when Luke Cage was axed the following week, especially as both seasons had been warmly received by critics and the second run of episodes ended on a cliffhanger that promised an interesting new direction for Mike Colter’s title hero.
At the time, we were unaware that Marvel Studios were in the process of gathering up as many of their properties as humanly possible under one roof, so each Netflix cancellation brought a mixture of incredulity and outrage from fans and subscribers. Building on his warmly received supporting role in Jessica Jones, Colter took center stage and made Luke into a soulful,...

We’ve already seen what happens when Sony stuff a Spider-Man 3 with too many supporting characters and unnecessary subplots, and the studio did it again seven years later in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. However, the mere presence of Marvel Studios is enough to assuage doubts among many fans that history will end up repeating itself for a third time when Tom Holland’s next outing swings into theaters in twelve months from now.

When Netflix started canceling their roster of Marvel shows, there was uproar from both longtime comic book fans and subscribers who had been drawn into the shared small screen universe alike. Despite the backlash at pulling Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and The Punisher from the platform, though, very few people shed a tear at the demise of Iron Fist.
Easily the weakest entry in the Defenders lineup, the series was hampered by the classic Netflix bloat that frequently sees the streaming service draw out stories that could be wrapped up in eight or ten episodes for much longer, and Finn Jones’ performance simply wasn’t good enough to anchor two seasons of television.
The story was muddled, the characters were all paper thin and even the fight sequences served to disappoint, which was a crushing blow for such a martial arts-orientated project as Iron Fist when the rest of...

The overwhelming majority of Netflix’s Marvel shows were well received by fans and critics alike, with the notable exception of Iron Fist, which is generally acknowledged as the weakest of the bunch by quite some distance. There was uproar when Daredevil, Jessica Jones and The Punisher were initially canceled, but it wouldn’t be unfair to say that few tears were shed over the demise of Finn Jones’ Danny Rand.
One area where Iron Fist excelled was in the fight scenes, which was the very least that was expected from a series with such a heavy martial arts element, but everything else from the performances to the pacing was subject to much criticism. The first season could only muster a 20% score on Rotten Tomatoes, while the second improved to a still disappointing 55%.

Out of all of Netflix’s Marvel shows, most people seemed to be in agreement that Iron Fist was the weakest. The character’s first taste of live-action didn’t find much favor with either fans or critics, and Danny Rand’s most memorable moments usually came when he had another one of the Defenders to play off.
When it was announced that the series had been canceled along with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and The Punisher, there was a noticeable lack of petitions and online campaigns to save Iron Fist compared to the outrage that greeted the others. It also looked inevitable that all of the Defenders would eventually be rebooted and then absorbed into the McU, leaving Finn Jones’ time in the role as nothing but a distant memory.

Marvel Entertainment’s Netflix television partnership, which produced shows such as “Daredevil” and “Jessica Jones,” might be dead, but fans can acquire a piece of the superhero franchise’s history at an upcoming auction.
On Friday, Marvel and Prop Store announced a June auction that will feature a variety of items from “The Punisher” and “The Defenders.” Bidding opens in May though the event, which does not have a specific date, will take place in Los Angeles, fans will be able to bid via telephone or online.
Props expected to be auctioned off include the Punisher’s (Jon Bernthal) vest and skull-clad armor, and a handful of masks from the series’ second season. Several other superhero costumes, including the red Daredevil mask and Colleen Wing’s (Jessica Henwick) katana will also be auctioned off.
Marvel held its first auction for its Netflix television shows last March, which featured over 750 lots.

One of the great tragedies of the absorption of the Marvel Television division by Marvel Studios in October of 2019 is that the often fantastic, occasionally lackluster Defenderverse, which included a grand total of 161 episodes across thirteen seasons of television over its five-year tenure on Netflix, is officially no longer part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, to which it was really only tenuously connected in the first place.
