Tom Shadyac, writer Michelle McGrath and Universal Pictures are teaming on the comedy Chip on the Old Block. McGrath's script went to the studio for high-six figures. The plot centers on a man who returns to his hometown where he teaches a bunch of kids how to live life, with disastrous results. Universal vice chairman of worldwide production Scott Stuber and senior vp Holly Bario will oversee the project for the studio. Amanda Morgan-Palmer and Michael Bostick brought the project to Universal. Shady Acres' Shadyac and Michael Bostick will produce the film under their banner. Shadyac's producing credits include Patch Adams, Dragonfly and Bruce Almighty, all of which he also has directed. McGrath recently sold the untitled hip-hop nanny project to the Walt Disney Co. That feature is based on the story of a Scottish nanny who comes to America to work for a hip-hop family. McGrath's script Shangri-La also is being packaged. McGrath is repped by CAA, Benderspink and Howard Abramson. Shadyac, Bostick and Shady Acres are repped by UTA.

Mandeville and producer Helen Bartlett have set up the untitled hip-hop nanny project at the Walt Disney Co. Michelle McGrath has been hired to pen the tale of a Scottish woman who comes to the United States to become a nanny for a hip-hop couple and their child, which is based on actual events. Brad Epstein is overseeing for the studio, with Albert Page overseeing for Mandeville. McGrath is represented by Benderspink, CAA and Howard Abramson at Behr, Abramson & Kaller.
