The upcoming Season 6 premiere of “The Goldbergs” is getting the John Hughes treatment, ABC announced Tuesday.
The sitcom’s annual 1980s movie tribute will be “Sixteen Candles,” just in time to celebrate Adam (Sean Giambrone)’s sixteenth birthday. But in the episode, which airs on Wednesday Sept. 26, his parents are distracted with Barry (Troy Gentile) and Lainey’s engagement and Erica (Hayley Orrantia)’s band ambitions. Just like the classic movie, his whole family has forgetted the biggest day of his teenage life. Adam tries to leverage the situation to build up some social cred.
ABC also announced that the “Sunday Fun and Games” line-up isn’t going anywhere.
“Celebrity Family Feud” has been renewed for its fifth season, and “The $100,000 Pyramid” and “To Tell the Truth” for their fourth seasons, it was announced Tuesday at ABC’s press day at the summer Television Critics Association press tour.

It's hard to come up with a headline to sum up this new project by Andrew Secunda (Upright Citizens Brigade and Late Night with Conan O'Brien). I love the concept, though. CBS, which is developing the show with Secunda, calls it a multigenerational comedy. The show will be about a couple in love who move in together. From there, we start to get their story in a clever way.
Through the extensive use of flashbacks to their childhoods, we'll see how they developed the quirks and habits that they're discovering about one another now as adults. We'll also see their parents both now and 20 years ago, to see how they shaped their children, and how their own relationships in the past may impact the way their children are today. Why didn't I just say that in the title?Continue reading New CBS comedy to tell a relationship story across 20 years

Complete pilot season coverage
UPDATED 4:28 p.m. PT March 16
CBS has greenlighted comedy pilot "Mike Birbiglia's Secret Public Journal."
The project, based on comedian Mike Birbiglia's weekly blog that chronicles his daily life, will star him as a stand-up comedian who lives with his girlfriend in Brooklyn and struggles in his efforts to be a grown up, have a relationship, and do the right things.
Birbiglia and Andrew Secunda ("Love, Inc".) created the project, which was originally set at NBC Universal with Secunda as the writer. About 10 days ago, it moved to CBS Paramount Network TV, and after a rewrite by Secunda, CBS picked it up to pilot. Secunda will executive produce with Little Engine's Gina Matthews and Grant Scharbo. Birbiglia will serve as producer.
Birbiglia, 29, who has toured the country for the past seven years, became one of the youngest comedians ever to appear on CBS' "The Late Show With David Letterman."
Years ago, the "Late Show" appearance of another stand-up comedian, Ray Romano, also led to an autobiographical comedy project for CBS that went on to become "Everybody Loves Raymond," one of the top TV series of the past decade.
