Spent several years teaching at various boarding schools in New England.
Graduated from Yale.
Has six siblings.
When the United States entered World War II he joined the OSS where he worked in counter intelligence.
In 1940 after being turned down by the United States' Office of Naval Intelligence and the U.S. Army's G-2 intelligence service he offered his services to England's MI6's British Security Co-ordination based out of Rockefeller Center in New York.
