Chris Licht officially exited his position of CEO at CNN on Wednesday morning and, for many online, it was no big surprise. A fairly large swath of folks on Twitter actually dubbed it “karma” for Licht’s firing of CNN anchor Don Lemon.
Licht’s one-year tenure as CEO and Chairman of CNN Worldwide was turbulent from start to finish, with a disastrous Donald Trump town hall and an unflattering profile in The Atlantic finally breaking staff morale. Upon learning that Licht’s exit is effective immediately, Twitter users suspected that Lemon might be off somewhere celebrating the ouster of the man who ousted him in April.
“Somewhere Don Lemon is laughing his ass off about Chris Licht,” one person wrote. “Karma does work.”

We’ll take “Scandals That Could’ve Been Avoided” for $1200. Mike Richards is already out as the new host of “Jeopardy!” amid backlash over his past offensive remarks and everybody’s got jokes — and, of course, more suggestions for his replacement.
Richards informed the show’s staff that he was stepping down in an email Friday, writing that, “It has become clear that moving forward as host would be too much of a distraction for our fans and not the right move for the show.”
The behind-the-scenes saga has already distracted fans, though, with one Twitter user wondering how “Jeopardy!” of all shows came to fill the drama void left by “Game of Thrones.”
Richards will remain as executive producer and the show will return to its short-term guest hosts until a permanent one is chosen.

“Jeopardy!” has finally announced its new permanent host — er, hosts, in a bit of a plot twist — and it’s not LeVar Burton. And as expected, fans have some feelings about this one.
For the most part, those feelings are sadness and/or anger. Burton has been openly campaigning for the job for months now, with steady fan support. When he was announced as a guest host, many hoped that it was an indicator of more to come — at least until Mike Richards was announced as the frontrunner for the permanent gig last week.
Unfortunately, Burton’s week on “Jeopardy!” pulled the lowest ratings of any guest host. Of course, that was largely because his shows landed square in the middle of the Tokyo Olympics. “Jeopardy!” was even temporarily renamed “Jeopardy-Olym” to reflect the extra layer of competition from the games.

After Variety reported “Jeopardy!” executive producer Mike Richards had begun advanced negotiations to become the full-time host of the trivia show, fans weren’t too happy, to say the least. Many people were lobbying for “Star Trek” star and recent guest host LeVar Burton to take the job and there was an outpouring of regret online about the news Wednesday evening.
Twitter was full of hot takes on NBC’s apparent decision to have Richards replace the late host Alex Trebek, a legend in his own right who hosted the show from its 1984 premiere until his death in November 2020.
It was reported Aug. 1 that Richards, a the lead executive on “Jeopardy!”, was “clearly the front-runner” in a mix of “several potential candidates” to host the show. Sony Pictures told Variety that it “not comment specifically on Richards’ status” and an anonymous insider told the magazine “there’s no certainty that...

Matt Damon bizarrely admitted in a new interview that he only recently stopped using the “the f-slur for a homosexual” after his daughter wrote a “treatise” on why using the word to refer to people, gay or otherwise, is unacceptable.
After confessing this in an interview with the U.K.’s Sunday Times to promote his new movie “Stillwater,” Damon was the target of many memes as well as pointed criticism as many people online questioned both why he decided to share this information — and also why he was still using such a derogatory term in 2021.
The Boston-born leading man said the “f-slur for a homosexual” was “commonly used when I was a kid, with a different application.”
The word has always been a slur and unacceptable to use even in a joking fashion, but it’s definitely odd that Damon decided to own up to his apparently frequent use of it in private.

Olympic gymnast Simone Biles pulled out of the women's team finals at the Tokyo Games Tuesday morning, paving the way for the Russian Olympic Committee to win the gold medal.
According to USA Gymnastics, Biles dropped out due to an undisclosed medical issue after faltering in the vault competition -- the first event for the American team on Tuesday. "She will be assessed daily to determine medical clearance for future competitions," the organization said in a statement.
Many speculated that Biles' decision to drop was more about her mental health than her physical health. Biles has been vocal in saying that the pressure of being on a global stage like the Olympics has been harder than ever. A few hours later, Biles clarified that her decision was indeed made for the sake of her mental health.

Meghan McCain is leaving “The View” after four years, and the move raises an important question — who’s going to take her place? Worry not, the People of the Internet already have plenty of ideas.
Some have real suggestions. While many are already speculating that McCain herself will eventually end up finding a job at Fox News, multiple current Fox folks are being floated as McCain’s replacement on ABC, arguing that “The View” will likely want to ensure another conservative voice continues to be on the panel. Suggestions there have included Candace Owens, Tomi Lahren and more.
Still others are hoping for the opposite. One popular choice is Ana Navarro, who has often filled in on “The View” when one of the hosts were out. Meanwhile, author David Hill suggested Ziwe, saying that she is the clear choice if “The View” is going to “atone” for McCain’s four years on the panel.

Meghan McCain has announced that, after four years with the show, she is leaving “The View.” Rumors of her announcement started circulating before she confirmed the news, which she did indeed confirm during the show. And for the many, the news is more than welcome.
“This was not an easy decision. It took a lot of thought and counsel and prayer and talking to my close family and friends,” McCain said of making the choice to leave. “Look, Covid has changed the world for all of us. And it changed the way, at least for me, the way I am looking at life, the way I’m living my life, the way I want my life to look like.”
McCain added that she simply felt that this was the right decision for her at this point in her life. But, even before she officially announced her departure, celebrations began on Twitter.

Joel Osteen is being raked across the coals after his appearance on Monday’s “Today” episode, during which he remarked that in order to live happier lives, people should focus on all the things they have, rather than what they lack. Osteen’s advice came as he promoted his new book, “Peaceful on Purpose.”
When asked by “Today” hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb about how he maintains a peaceful state of mind each day, Osteen stated that it all comes down to starting the day with gratitude.
“I think you need to have some time to just come back to a place of peace where you’re grateful,” Osteen added. “Think about what’s right, not what’s wrong. Focus on what you do have, not what you don’t have.”

“Happiest Season” recently premiered on Hulu, marking the first time a major holiday movie has predominantly billed itself as an LGBT-centric rom-com. It was a film that was long overdue in 2020 and one that received generally positive reviews, though not everyone was a fan. Which is understandable. After all, not every movie is going to be for everyone.
But Ben Shapiro definitely was not a fan.
On the November 30th episode of the “Ben Shapiro Show,” Shapiro spent some time — Ok, a lot of time — talking about his feelings on the film which, unsurprisingly, he did not enjoy. He admitted he did not even watch it, so basically we can infer that he didn’t enjoy it because of the lesbian rom-com angle.
In his comments, he first pointed out how holiday fare is usually innocent and tame and “not woke,” which is not the case when it comes to “Happiest Season.

John Cleese, famous for his outrageous turns in the “Monty Python” series and films, is now outraging trans advocates and users on Twitter after sending out a flurry of tweets over the weekend questioning trans rights, and defending “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling. Cleese remains under fire for signing a letter earlier this year in support of Rowling, whose controversial views about the trans community are well known, and which she has continued to defend in spite of backlash. Rowling has been in the crosshairs all year for her antagonistic stance.
“Deep down, I want to be a Cambodian police woman. Is that allowed, or am I being unrealistic?” the 81-year-old Cleese tweeted in response to one user who asked him, “Why the fuck can’t you just let people be who they want to be? On Thursday, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez dissed and dismissed former Sen. Claire McCaskill for comments McCaskill made the night before on MSNBC, in which Caskill appeared to blame key democratic constituencies for electoral setbacks.
Quote-tweeting a video from the appearance where, among other things McCaskill referred to transgender people as “transsexuals,” Aoc noted the irony of McCaskill appearing on the cable news network as an expert on winning elections despite the fact that she was voted out of office in 2018.
“Why do we listen to people who lost elections as if they are experts in winning elections?” Ocasio-Cortez quipped before also noting that McCaskill lost her election in a Democratic wave year, despite following her own advice. “McCaskill tried her approach. She ran as a caravan-hysteria Dem& lost while grassroots organizers won progressive measures in Mo. Her language here shows how she took her base for granted.” Ouch.

Rick Moranis was one of the biggest comedy stars of the 1980s and appeared in countless box office hits and cult classics like Ghostbusters, Brewster’s Millions, Little Shop of Horrors, Spaceballs, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and Parenthood, but following the death of his wife in 1991, the actor started slowing down his output to look after his children, before eventually leaving the industry altogether.
The 67 year-old hasn’t appeared in a live-action movie since 1997’s Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves, and in the 23 years since, his only feature film credits have been three animated efforts, two of which went straight to video. Many fans were crossing their fingers that he could be convinced to join the rest of the original cast in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, but despite rumors that he might be involved, he’s said to have passed on the opportunity.

The Harry Potter franchise is beloved, but creator J.K. Rowling has frequently been the subject of heavy criticism over the last few years for various reasons. The side-stepping of Dumbledore’s sexuality in the Fantastic Beasts films, for example, or the troubling depiction of a rare Asian character in the Wizarding World in the same movie series. The latest furore is particularly disheartening for fans though, as Rowling has shown her support for anti-trans views.
Today, the author responded to the firing of policy researcher Maya Forstater from her job at the Centre for Global Development due to her sharing transphobic comments on Twitter. One tweet, for instance, read “men cannot change into women.” Rowling made clear that she’s firmly in defence of Forstater, using the #IStandWithMaya hashtag and posting a message that many have seen as offensive and dismissive of the trans community.
Here’s Rowling’s original tweet:

Scarlett Johansson is at the center of backlash once again for defending Woody Allen in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Johansson was Allen’s muse in the mid-2000s as the star of “Match Point,” “Scoop,” and “Vicky Cristina Barcelona.” Following Johansson’s dramatic breakthrough in “Lost in Translation,” her work with Woody Allen help solidified her as one of the most sought-after actresses in the world. Johansson’s “Match Point” performance earned her a Golden Globe nomination.
