“Love Life” has been canceled at HBO Max after two seasons.
The anthology romantic comedy series was originally ordered in May 2019 before HBO Max even had a name. The first season was released in May 2020 and Season 2 was released in October 2021. Anna Kendrick led the first season, while William Jackson Harper starred in the second. Both seasons will be pulled off of HBO Max.
Sam Boyd created the series and served as co-showrunner and executive producer on both seasons. Bridget Bedard was also the co-showrunner and executive producer on both seasons, with Rachelle Williams joining as co-showrunner and executive producer in Season 2. Kendrick, Harper, Paul Feig and Dan Magnante also executive produced. The series was produced by Lionsgate Television and Feigco Entertainment.
Along with Kendrick, the cast of the first season also included Zoë Chao, Sasha Compère, and Peter Vack. In Season 2, Harper starred with Jessica Williams, Punkie Johnson and Chris “Comedian Cp” Powell.

When William Jackson Harper turns on his warm, steady charm, he proves an impossible actor to resist. Even when portraying a neurotic breakdown, as he did frequently as an ethics professor on “The Good Place,” or embodying someone who makes questionable decisions, as he does on “Love Life,” Harper imbues his characters with a grounded sincerity that shines through their darkest days. That “The Good Place” eventually bet the house on Harper’s ability to anchor the most significant romance in the universe came as no surprise, even as that romance threatened to swallow the entire series whole. Harper was simply that charismatic, justifying the gambit with every focused gaze and tender smile.
It’s tempting to say that it was only a matter of time before Harper landed a romantic comedy role worthy of his talents, if only because he so clearly deserved it. That assumption of inevitability would,...

When “Love Life” premiered in May 2020, America had an orange-haired cartoon for a president, seemingly every citizen wanted a vaccine, and HBO Max was launching to direct competition from a one-month-old streamer called Quibi. All that has since changed, and Season 2 of Sam Boyd’s anthology series has, too. The creator is joined by new co-showrunners Bridget Bedard (“Transparent”) and Rachelle Williams (“Survivor’s Remorse”), who welcome William Jackson Harper as the season’s new lead. The pandemic only lingers around the periphery of his years-spanning search for a partner. And there’s no pressure on the season to prop up HBO Max as a worthwhile streaming investment, since a) everyone has already subscribed to keep up with Season 3 of “Succession,” and b) the mighty Quibi has been vanquished.

After screening the season one finale episode of HBO Max’s “Love Life,” Variety‘s Angelique Jackson hosted a panel discussion with Anna Kendrick, Sam Boyd, Zoë Chao, Bridget Bedard and Paul Feig to talk about its unexpected ending, writing their personal experiences into the show and what to expect in its second season.

Having already pocketed a Golden Globe for the first season of Ramy, the often laconically blistering Hulu series brought some powerhouse hardware on board for Season 2, literally and figuratively.
“We were writing in the writers room for about a month and then someone at Hulu called me and said, ‘Hey, Mahershala Ali loves your show and wants to talk with you on the phone,’” star and co-creator Ramy Youssef said during a panel at Deadline’s Contenders Television virtual event. The conversation resulted in the two-time Oscar winner joining the series playing a mentoring sheikh at the spiritually struggling title character’s new mosque.
“The thing we really wanted to do with this character that we ended up calling Sheikh Ali is really just showing someone who just feels like a real leader of a mosque,” Youssef said of the 10-episode second season of Ramy, which dropped on the Disney-controlled...

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for “Love Life” through the Season 1 finale.)
The first season of HBO Max’s comedy anthology “Love Life” came to an ended on Thursday, giving Anna Kendrick’s Darby Carter the happy ending she deserved — but that we may not have expected.
Darby and Augie’s (Jin Ha) revived flame burned out, but not before they conceived a child together and agreed to co-parent their son, a decision that tied the former lovers together in platonic, mature fashion that would have been hard to imagine when their first romance ended abruptly in the series premiere. And yes, “Love Life” creator Sam Boyd and his co-showrunner Bridget Bedard know this might not be what you hoped for when these two once-compatible people fell hard for each other in their early ’20s and were only torn apart by circumstances.

After multiple heartbreaks, Darby Carter (Anna Kendrick) will finally get her happy ending on the Season 1 finale of HBO Max’s comedy anthology “Love Life.”
But what makes for a happy ending for our heroine might surprise you, because the identity of her “person” isn’t actually the most important part of Darby’s story, according to showrunners Sam Boyd and Bridget Bedard.

(Warning: This post contains spoilers through Episode 3 of HBO Max’s “Love Life.”)
HBO Max’s flagship original series “Love Life” is a show about, as its simple title lays out very clearly, someone’s love life. In the case of the comedy anthology’s first season, that love life belongs to Darby Carter, played by Anna Kendrick, an adorable New Yorker who dreams of her perfect match and — as the flash-forward at the end of the premiere shows us — has a ways to go to find them.
Darby’s 10-episode tale was crafted by “Love Life” creator Sam Boyd, with help from his co-showrunner Bridget Bedard, executive producer Paul Feig and even Kendrick herself. Yes, the “Pitch Perfect” alum stars on the show, but she also snagged an Ep credit that Feig says was well-earned due to how many of her own romantic experiences the Oscar-nominated actress offered up as inspiration.

HBO Max launches May 27 with a library of 10,000 hours of existing content, as well as the first three episodes of “Love Life,” the first of many primetime-style scripted series for the streaming service. Creator Sam Boyd reveals about the title in his exclusive interview with Gold Derby (watch the video above), “There are a lot of meanings to it and my favorite titles always mean many things.” He explains about how “love” can be an adjective or a verb, “We’re looking at a person’s love life, so it’s called ‘Love Life’ and yeah, it’s a directive with this verb, telling people to love their lives. It was about the push and pull between those two words as separate ideas (love and life) and looking at a person’s life through their loves and looking at love as a way to understand a person’s life.”

Paul Feig has already taken quarantine happy hours to the next level, hosting cocktail-making classes with his wife, Laurie, on Instagram Live. So when it came to bartending the virtual after-party for the premiere of his new series “Love Life” on Thursday night, Feig was a natural.

HBO has dominated the Emmy race for years. Now, sibling streamer HBO Max is looking to get into the game.

The afternoon before Ramadan starts, Ramy Youssef is sitting in a restaurant in downtown Manhattan, dressed in sweats and a black Nike snapback hat. He’s loading up on food: a hearty stack of lemon curd pancakes, a side of turkey sausage, ketchup he liberally seasons with pepper. The 28-year-old has just finished performing downstairs at the Comedy Cellar, where he started out in typical slacker-bro comedian style, bemoaning the fact that he doesn’t have a girlfriend with whom he can grab fro-yo. Then he segued into a bit about watching Surviving R.
