The best soundtracks of 2010 are somewhat varied and random. Not always does a great film produce great music and sometimes a horrible film can have decent music, there is no pattern. Thus, I have made my own very subjective selective pattern. Using my main theory that a soundtrack is best when it reflects and capitalizes on the moments and story of the film and weaker when its motive is good music placed thoughtlessly in scenes, each inclusion still has its own exceptions. For instance, monotony is not a highly praised quality, but see how many Brian Eno and Broken Social Scene tracks are present on this list! So read, enjoy, agree or disagree because it is all in good fun.

Music, social status and relationships are of earth-shattering importance, and if you didn't know any better, you would swear that the whole world revolved around you. Scott Pilgrim is a twenty-something slacker still living the life of a teenager, but in his universe, relationships really are life-threatening. You see, the girl that he has a crush on also has seven evil exes who are determined to hunt him down and challenge him in, shall we say, real-life mortal kombat. The full soundtrack line-up for Edgar Wright's upcoming movie of Scott Pilgrim Vs The World has now been revealed...
The soundtrack listing for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World has been released via Edgar Wright's Twitter and it's looking pretty special.
Toronto natives Broken Social Scene and Metric provide previously unreleased material as they provide the music for the bands Crash and the Boys and The Clash at Demonhead, respectively. Broken Social Scene's rather excellent Anthems For A Seventeen-Year-Old Girl, taken from their 2003 album You Forgot It In People, also features.
Rounding off material for the fictional bands is Beck, who provides the backing for Sex Bob-omb with actors Michael Cera, Mark Webber and Alison Pill providing vocals. Beck also provides original material with him on vocal duties with two versions of the song Romana.
Other notable inclusions include Plumtree's Scott Pilgrim, which is where Bryan Lee O'Malley...

North by Northeast 2010 is upon us! That means I have ringing ears and a sore ass ahead of me, thanks to the over 600 live music acts and an ample assortment of music themed documentaries that are taking Toronto by storm this week. This is simply a list of things I plan on checking out during Nxne, things that I think my fellow dorks will appreciate. I’ll admit that I’m not as up on new music as some, if you want the real scoop on up-and-coming bands at Nxne then be sure to read Jessica’s Nxne 2010 picks.
We’re barely scratching the surface here though, there is so much to see and do at North by Northeast. Be sure to check out the official Nxne 2010 website for ticket info and the full schedule or just go buy a wristband and get out there and see what you can!
