There’s another plus in town – Epix is being rebranded as MGM+.
The cable network and streaming service is getting a new name and identity as well as a handful of new titles, as part of a relaunch set for January 2023.
MGM+ joins the likes of Disney+, Discovery+, Paramount+, ESPN+ and BET+ with the use of the symbol.
It comes five years after the vaunted Hollywood studio completed its acquisition of Viacom and Lionsgate’s stake in the business, giving it full control of the network, and five months after Amazon completed its own acquisition of MGM.
As part of the rebrand, the network, which will continue to be available in the U.S. on Prime Video, cable, telco, satellite, has handed out a number of greenlights.
Hotel Cocaine, which comes from Narcos’ Chris Brancato, has been handed an eight-episode order and Julian Fellowes’ British period drama Belgravia has been given a follow-up series.

Jeff Jampol has managed the estates of the Doors, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain, and Tupac Shakur. “None of my clients tour,” he says. “They’re all dead.”
That hasn’t stopped him from generating big money on their behalf, whether it’s organizing a touring exhibition of Cobain’s artwork, setting up Oliver Stone’s 1991 Doors biopic (which tripled the band’s catalog sales), or producing the 2015 Joplin documentary Janis: Little Girl Blue. Three decades before Amy Winehouse there was Janis Joplin, another dynamic, feisty, bluesy female vocalist whose life came to a tragic end at the rock world’s unlucky age - 27. A different Amy – documentary-maker Berg – pays joyous, moving tribute in this feature-length film to the girl from Port Arthur, Texas, whose breakout performance at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival ushered in a short but intense three-year period of rock fame before her death from a heroin overdose in October 1970.
If there’s one thing Janis: Little Girl Blue conveys brilliantly it’s the exuberant love for life and sense of fun that emanated from every pore of this snub-nosed singer.
Co-produced by PBS’ long-running American Masters series, Janis: Little Girl Blue is a classic rock documentary, told using a conventional but well-sifted mix of present-day and archive interviews with performance and backstage footage. It’s a good...

There was a time not too long ago when Martin Scorsese was thought of as a critic’s darling, not a crowd-pleaser. However, since The Aviator hit the $100 million mark in 2005, three of his other DiCaprio films (The Departed, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street) crossed that box office threshold. More popular than ever, the 71-year-old can make the sorts of pictures he wants. While he is about to start filming his long-brewing Silence and premiere his documentary The 50-Year Argument at the Toronto Film Festival, word is out that the master director is now attached to make a film about the legendary punk group The Ramones.
The rockers’ various estates are now in a deal to give archival material to creative sources, including Scorsese, says Jeff Jampol, who co-manages the band’s estate. “Everybody [from the families] is cooperation and moving in one direction together as a team,” Jampol told Billboard.

This last weekend, there was a Johnny Ramone tribute at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery where Rob Zombie played, because apparently the two became friends that time The Ramones were touring around White Zombie (if all of this has been foreign to you, know there's one of your peers feeling really old for knowing exactly what I'm talking about). Anyway, Jeff Jampol, a man whose name you can quickly forget, co-manages the band's estate and with the recent death of Tommy, the last surviving Ramone, Jampol is ready to re-orient the brand around the entire band as a group (rather than honoring the individual members).
Jampol isn't any slouch, he also reps the estates of The Doors, Janis Joplin, Tupac (thank you for the hologram, Mr. Jampol), and Otis Redding, and has a grand plan for the future of the Ramones brand.

As part of a 40th Anniversary celebration of the band’s 1976 debut album, Billboard is reporting that Martin Scorsese is attached to direct a biopic on the iconic punk rock band the Ramones.
The last surviving member of the band Tommy Ramone passed away last month, and now their manager of their estate, Jeff Jampol, intends to focus on the band’s complete legacy, planning a book, documentary, play and remastered music.

Martin Scorsese will direct a biopic on iconic New York punk band The Ramones.
The Oscar-winning Wolf of Wall Street director is attached to make a narrative feature about the group as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations of their first record, 1976's Ramones. A screenwriter is yet to be hired.
Scorsese is currently working on drama Silence, due for release in 2015.
Jeff Jampol and Dave Frey, who co-manage The Ramones' estate, will also be overseeing a documentary featuring unseen band footage shot by George Seminara in the '70s and '80s, a theatrical play and a book.
"Everybody is cooperating and moving in one direction together as a team," Jampol told Billboard.
The Ramones formed in 1974 in New York's Forest Hills, Queens neighbourhood and produced 14 studio albums in a career spanning 30 years.
Tommy Ramone, who founded the group alongside Joey, Johnny and Dee Dee Ramone, passed away earlier this year.

Music has long played a very important role in Martin Scorsese's career. Whether it's the memorable uses of songs like Eric Clapton's "Layla" or "I.m Shipping Up to Boston" by Dropkick Murphys in features like Goodfellas and The Departed or concert documentaries he's helmed like The Last Waltz and Shine A Light, the filmmaker has long found a way to bring the two mediums into harmonious sync. It's for this reason that we're not at all shocked by what's being proposed as Scorsese's next project after the religious period drama Silence. Billboard has it on good authority that Martin Scorsese is in the early process of trying to make a movie about The Ramones, the legendary punk band. While things appear to still be in the early stages, Jeff Jampol and Dave Frey - the co-managers of the band's estate - are working to plan a big...

In a new interview with Billboard, Doors manager (and Morrison estate-minder) Jeff Jampol said he hopes to create a "multimedia experience" featuring "lasers, lights, high-quality sound, vibrations [and] projected imagery," not to mention the band — and Morrison (who died in 1971) — in 3-D.
"We're trying to get to the point where 3-D characters will walk around," Jampol said, adding that he's been exploring the idea for nearly eight years with British director Jake Nava. "Hopefully, 'Jim Morrison' will be...

So, that Tupac hologram. Wild, right? That's the typically baffled response to the news that the long-dead ‘Pac appeared alongside Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg at Coachella, and that Dre is now brainstorming a way to send virtual Tupac on tour. And if this pays off, you just know that promoters will be looking to send more dead performers on the road. But which apparitions have the potential to sell the most tickets? To find out, we called up Jeff Jampol, whose Jam Inc. manages the estates of such late singers as Rick James, Jim Morrison, and Janis Joplin, among others. Here's his list of the ghosts who should start putting their riders together. (Only Cristal formaldehyde!)* *The original version of this slide show had the year of Elvis's death wrong.

The new "Doors" doc, "When You're Strange", will be released to theatres April 9.
Narrated by actor Johnny Depp, the feature is written/directed by Tom Dicillo and produced by Dick Wolf, Rhino's John Beug, band manager Jeff Jampol and Wolf Films' Peter Jankowski.
Made with the support of surviving band members Ray Manzarek, John Densmore, Robby Krieger and the Jim Morrison estate, the doc is considered by Manzarek to be the 'antidote' to director Oliver Stone's previous bio-pic about the band starring Val Kilmer as Morrison.
"Watching the hypnotic, hitherto unreleased footage of Jim, John, Ray and Robby, I felt like I experienced it all through their eyes", said Depp. "As a rock 'n' roll documentary, or any kind of documentary for that matter, it simply doesn't get any better than this".
The film uses material lensed between 1965 up to Morrison's death in 1971, including footage from Morrison and...
