Paramount’s Network 10 Preps Aussie ‘Taskmaster’
Avalon’s Taskmaster is making the long journey to Australia. Paramount-owned Network 10 has ordered a local version of the quirky celebrity challenge format, with comedian Tom Gleeson stepping into the iconic ‘Taskmaster’ presenter role. Challenges have been filmed in a studio in Melbourne and on location in New Zealand, with format owner Avalon Television producing a ten-part series ahead of a 2023 debut. The show has sold into 12 territories as a format and the UK currently on its 15th season, and its fifth on Channel 4. The show was unveiled at Network 10’s Upfront today, where a local remake of another Channel 4 show, long-running property format Location, Location, Location was also revealed. “Theodosia,” the Egyptology-themed adventure series which just premiered on HBO Max in the U.S., has been acquired by BBC, along with a bevy of other partners.
Produced by Cottonwood Media, “Theodosia” is represented in international markets by Zdf Studios and Federation Kids & Family, a subsidiary of Federation Entertainment.
“Theodosia” follows a smart and bold 14-year-old named Theodosia Throckmorton (aka Theo) who is the daughter of two intrepid Egyptologists excavating in the Valley of the Kings. When Theo and her younger brother Henry stumble upon a hidden tomb and a mysterious artefact, the ‘Eye of Horus’, Theo unlocks the power to see and perform true magic, thus discovering a whole new world of mystery as well as danger.

The Smithsonian Channel has shared a clip promoting “One Thousand Years of Slavery,” a new docuseries that aims to tell the global story of slavery.
The four-part series features interviews and discussions with notable Black actors, celebrities and leaders, who will dive into their own family connections to slavery and unpack the legacy it has left today. Some of the people interviewed for the series include Debbie Allen, Valerie Jarrett, Lorraine Toussaint, Soledad O’Brien, Cch Pounder, Senator Cory Booker, Marc Morial and Dulé Hill.
The series is executive produced by Angela Bassett and Courtney B. Vance’s Bassett Vance Productions, with Vance narrating every episode. In a powerful alliance, Paris-based premium kids content producer Cottonwood Media, German public broadcaster Zdf and its co-pro and distribution arm Zdf Enterprises, HBO Max and Brazil’s Globo are teaming to produce “Theodosia,” a big new live action kids adventure series targeting family audiences.
No budget is given for the 26-part half hour series. Its combination, however, of elements which make for high-end entertainment – period costume, action and foreseeable heavy Vxf – suggest this is another big play by two of Europe’s champions of ambitious live-action kids shows.
One is Cottonwood Media, the kids and family production company at Paris and L.A -based Federation Entertainment whose credits include Studiocanal’s Cannes 2019 pre-sales movie hit “Around the World in 80 Days,” to be screened at Berlin.
