From Sabrina’s Magical World, Bloody Disgusting has learned this afternoon that Archie Comics will be releasing brand new one-shot comic The Wicked Trinity this coming June.
You’ll be able to meet The Wicked Trinity in the 32-page comic on June 12, 2024.
In The Wicked Trinity, “Sabrina’s magical nemesis Amber Nightstone and her sidekicks, Jade Kazane and Sapphire Gill, are intent on becoming the most powerful witches in the world. Isolated from so many around them, the three have formed a coven based on their individual needs for vengeance and true freedom.
“But when there is some dissent among the ranks, their small coven is threatened to be obliterated from within.”
The Wicked Trinity features a script by Sam Maggs, art by Lisa Sterle, colors by Ellie Wright, letters by Jack Morelli, main cover by Lisa Sterle, and variant cover by Soo Lee.

Spoilers for "Star Wars Jedi: Battle Scars" by Sam Maggs follow.
The last video game tie-in "Star Wars" gave us was the inherently readable "Star Wars: Battlefront II: Inferno Squad," so I was excited to get my hands on the latest, "Star Warrs Jedi: Battle Scars." It promises to lead into the game "Star Wars Jedi: Survivor," which comes out in late April of this year.
The sequel/prequel book picks up a few years after the events of the imminently playable "Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order," and follows the crew of the Mantis — Cal Kestis, Cere, Dreez, and Merrin — as they continue to bring the fight to the Empire. After a botched mission, they pick up a Stormtrooper trying to defect away from the Empire with a terrible secret. There's a secret technology called the Shroud that has the ability to make someone virtually invisible to their enemies. If...

Tell No Tales: Pirates of the Southern Seas
By Sam Maggs and Kendra Wells
160 pages, Amulet Books, $12.99/$21.99
Sam Maggs has carved out a fine career writing imaginative young adult fiction and graphic novels. Here, she teams with artist Kendra Wells to tackle the two best known female pirates: Anne Bonny and Mary Read. They are sailing the high seas along with Calico Jack and having a grand old time.
There’s a four-page text section discussing the historic facts behind the pirates and its makes far more interesting reading than the simplified tale presented ahead of it.
Being a pirate wasn’t easy and it was harder for women. In both cases, Bonny and Read had to discuss themselves as men to fit in, with all the complications attendant to that. At the time, Bonny had left her husband and married Jack, only to fall for Read, thinking she was a he.

I must confess that when this book first came across my desk, I thought it was Marvel’s attempt to jump on DC’s bandwagon. DC have been producing a very good series of Young Adult (12-16) and Middle Grade (8-12) level books, several of which I have reviewed, and proving there is a market there, and that holy grail, a predominantly female market at that. Marvel, though, have tried attracting younger readers for some time, with their Star Comics line way back when, and the more recent Marvel Adventures all ages books, which were also surprisingly decent reads. The Marvel Action line, however, is a collaboration between Marvel Comics and Idw, which I guess means Marvel licenses over their characters, Idw do all the creative work, and then Marvel get final editorial approval. Comic book collaborations are good,...

Bong Joon Ho’s acclaimed South Korean thriller “Parasite” became the first foreign-language film to win best picture at the Oscars, and the historic win had Hollywood heavyweights like Ava DuVernay, Sandra Oh and Priyanka Chopra cheering.
“Massive! Historic! Landmark! Parasite! The world is big and it is beautiful and films from everywhere deserve to be on that stage winning @TheAcademy’s highest honor,” DuVernay wrote on Twitter. “This is wonderful and right. #Oscars.”

Heading into the 92nd Academy Awards, “1917” was widely expected to win the night’s top plaudit, while Sam Mendes was the odds-on favorite to take home the best director prize after winning precursor awards.

The Harry Potter franchise is beloved, but creator J.K. Rowling has frequently been the subject of heavy criticism over the last few years for various reasons. The side-stepping of Dumbledore’s sexuality in the Fantastic Beasts films, for example, or the troubling depiction of a rare Asian character in the Wizarding World in the same movie series. The latest furore is particularly disheartening for fans though, as Rowling has shown her support for anti-trans views.
Today, the author responded to the firing of policy researcher Maya Forstater from her job at the Centre for Global Development due to her sharing transphobic comments on Twitter. One tweet, for instance, read “men cannot change into women.” Rowling made clear that she’s firmly in defence of Forstater, using the #IStandWithMaya hashtag and posting a message that many have seen as offensive and dismissive of the trans community.
Here’s Rowling’s original tweet:
Dress however you please.
