The best cinematic action of 2017 in three parts from the movies of SXSW.
It was heavier than I had anticipated. At the age of 16, if my memory serves me correctly, it was the first time I’d ever held a real gun. In the midwest, surrounded by a family full of avid hunters, this was a right of passage. At some point an uncle or two would want to show you the awesome power of a real firearm, both as appreciation for the weapon’s power and as a lesson in the seriousness of its deadly potential. The weight of the revolver in my hand brought both of these concepts to life with immediacy. It’s hard to hold a real gun and not be in awe and at least a little terrified. It’s a feeling I’ll never shake, perhaps one of those moments in which a teenager’s journey toward adulthood was accelerated a...

Author: Jon Lyus
Yesterday the 2017 Into Film Awards brought together some of the brightest new young filmmakers in the UK to celebrate their achievements, and promote the ongoing commitment to teaching film in schools. Many of the young filmmakers walked the red carpet before the ceremony, rubbing shoulders with some of our finest actors, directors and producers, and we were able to speak to many of them.
Eddie Redmayne, Daniel Craig, Amma Asante and Charles Dance were among those attending the event, and our collection of interviews are below. The great work Into Film undertakes to promote film education is second to none. Supported by the BFI and the National Lottery there is much to celebrate here, and we wish them well on their continuing adventure.

The BBC has a packed line-up of daytime antique shows, but the original Bargain Hunt still provides the most edutainment...
It is an immutable law of the universe that everything everywhere will at some point be bought on Bargain Hunt. That important looking bit you keep in that tin of random things in case you find out what it’s for? In 2064 some antiques expert who hasn’t even been born yet will explain casually that it was used as a stand for rich Moldovan aristocrats' spare eyeballs, or a small portable gardening tool for calibrating parasols. It doesn’t matter if it was actually the plastic thing that keeps your router standing on end.

The X Factor star Monica Michael has insisted that she has no resentment towards Cheryl Fernandez-Versini after being sent home during the Six Chair Challenge last year.
Fans were outraged when Michael was sent home last year - but were thrilled when she returned with a triumphant audition on Saturday's episode.
Speaking to Digital Spy today, Michael revealed that she was "so happy" to be back on the show but admitted that she had felt the pressure of coming back for a second shot.
"I was so apprehensive because last year I guess people sort of liked me, but you never know - people change," she said. "It could have been like, 'Oh, she's back, who cares?' But it was a great response, so I'm happy. I just thought if you come back and you're worse than last year, they'll just think, 'Oh, Cheryl was right!' But touch wood,...

Celebrity Big Brother kicked off last night and as always, people across the nation were scratching their heads in confusion. Austin Armacost? Farrah Abraham? Nope. But CBB has a grand tradition of sticking in non-celebrities in the house and passing them off as famous faces...

2. Bobby Sabel - Celebrity Big Brother 8
Ironically, this model pulled off the street as a last-minute replacement is now well-remembered - every time a new series starts, someone gets dubbed 'the new Bobby Sabel'. His biggest moment was making Darryn Lyons drink his sweat - lovely chap.

The first photos of this year's Celebrity Big Brother house have been revealed, and the UK vs USA theme certainly takes centre stage.
The bold red, white and blue-themed house will definitely be reminding the celebs of their rivalry, as stars and stripes and Union Jacks decorate their luxury accommodation.
Who could be going into the Celebrity Big Brother house? All the rumours
Blue sofas dominate the living room area, with plenty of scatter cushions to let the housemates lounge in comfort.
The kitchen transports the housemates back to a '50s-style diner with white and black-checked floors, as well as red and white chairs with matching kitchenware.
The garden is entirely a stateside affair, with a miniature Statue of Liberty standing pride of place in the middle of the swimming pool.

Stereo Kicks' Casey Johnson has revealed his heart tattoo for Only the Young's Betsy-Blue English.
On tonight's (April 9) Celebrity Juice, Keith Lemon interrogates Johnson and fellow band member Jake Sims about their reported rivalry over English from their time competing on last year's X Factor.
Sims replies: "Well she saw me in Bermuda, and I had the shades on and was swimming, and she got quite high maintenance and was like, 'Get a tattoo for me, get a tattoo...'
"I wasn't stupid enough, but Casey actually got a blue tattoo for Betsy-Blue. That's not a joke! He'll probably show you actually."
When pressed on the issue by Lemon, Johnson explains: "Yeah, but she's my girlfriend so it's different - we're going out," before revealing a big heart tattoo on the inside of his wrist.
"It's a blue heart because her name's Betsy-Blue," he adds. "So it's a heart that's blue.

Why is he going in the house? For one thing, he likes "challenges", apparently. Also, he loves us Brits: "Britain pretty much told the rest of the world who Alexander O'Neal was before anybody really knew." (He speaks about himself in the third person quite regularly, it seems.) Let's take a moment and spare a thought for the poor advertising people. An advertising employee's life is a tricky one. He or she may have a fat bottomed bank balance that makes their world go round but they face a tricky task. How do they put a new spin on a familiar advertising icon and keep it fresh? From puppies rolling around in loo paper through to cartoon tea northerners in big caps, these are the faces of vital products and if they get tired or stale, the folks won't buy 'em any more – leaving those poor advertising sorts as crying puddles in corners.
Taking this concept into time and space, let's also spare a thought for the big cheeses at the Doctor Who studios. Doctor Who has its fair share of familiar icons – the sort that you'd list in a Family Fortunes studio to win a hefty jackpot cash prize.

"Yeah, Jackie," were the only two words uttered from the side of Jackie's heavily siliconed mouth as she entered the house, draped in fur and dripping in jewels. Her entrance soon became one of the most memorable moments from the entire series.
It was part-Jackie's presence, part-Jackie's face that really shocked Brigitte Nielsen back on the show in 2005 when her former mother-in-law entered the house on day five.

Poor old Marlon Wallen. The Big Brother housemate had already made himself a pariah after saving himself from eviction last week - then last night, the humiliation just got worse as he was the subject of a surprise eviction. Luisa Zissman and Blue opening a bar in Ibiza - what could possibly go wrong?
The boyband and former Apprentice star have signed up to film a new television show charting the launch of their venue on the party island, Broadcast says.
The series, which is still thought to be in the early stages, is reportedly planned for ITV's new channel ITVBe - the future home of The Only Way Is Essex and Real Housewives.
According to reports, Zissman will use her business experience to manage the bar while the members of Blue will run it.
The show will reunite Zissman with her former Celebrity Big Brother housemate Lee Ryan, with filming expected to be completed in time for Blue to go on the Big Reunion boyband tour in October.
Meanwhile, recent speculation suggested that ITVBe is considering buying the rights to Big Brother, although the move is considered unlikely.

The latest series of Big Brother kicked off last night, and as we prepare to hand over the next 11 weeks of our lives to Channel 5, Digital Spy wanted to get the lowdown on what's in store for the brave, bold and frankly daft housemates.
Settling down in the brand new house, we met presenter Emma Willis and Bit on the Side's Rylan Clark to discuss power trips, the secret to winning the show and why they don't want to see any sex…
What were your reactions when you walked into the new house for the first time?
Rylan: "Surprised! Every time you think, 'Yeah, it's really nice', but this one, both of us just sat there and went, 'This is where the budget's gone'. The house looks nice, but it doesn't feel nice. Everything looks good for the viewer, so it's comfortable to watch. But to live in, it's not going to be that great.

"This is Big Brother. Can Digital Spy please make your way to the sofa?"
It is almost 24 hours before this summer's batch of Big Brother contestants will walk through those sliding doors and enter the house, and yet Digital Spy is clambering all over the beds, crushing Pringle crumbs into the carpet and throwing cushions around.
Yesterday, ahead of tonight's launch show, we were unwisely let loose for a no-holds-barred snoop around the ultra-modern and greener-than-Kermit pad that will be home to an as-yet-undisclosed number of housemates for 11 weeks.
Before we walk in (sadly not via the aforementioned infamous sliding doors to booing and/or cheering crowds, but from behind a secret panel underneath the stairs) we're given some bright blue shoe covers - the sort you get in a hospital. They say it's to protect the carpets. We think it's to help institutionalise us from the get-go.

Lee Ryan has pleaded guilty to criminal damage. The Blue singer was hit with a £3,325 fine and banned from driving for two years at Ealing Magistrates Court, in west London, today (02.05.14) after he admitted to urinating in his police cell and failing to provide a specimen sample following his drink-driving arrest in April. The 30-year-old star blamed his behaviour on the online abuse he received following his stint on Channel 5's 'Celebrity Big Brother' earlier this year. The court heard that Lee had been detained in the early hours of April 11 after officers spotting him driving erratically...

In a new interview, Matt Bomer reveals he’s been a married man since 2011. Does that mean we have to go back and amend all those stories where we talked about his “partner” Simon Halls?
Judge Michael McShane has denied Nom’s request to delay the marriage equality trial in Oregon so they can intervene. But he did schedule a hearing on standing for May 1, making it unlikely that activists will get a ruling before the May 23 deadline to turn in signatures for a ballot initiative.

Guy Branum talks gay bar names, Michael Fassbender’s Sir Ian impression, Parker Young joins Geoff Stultz for new pilot
Enlisted is almost certainly dead, and since I need a way to keep Parker Young on my television, I’m thrilled he’s joining the unfortunately titled Cuz-Bros with his Enlisted costar Geoff Stults. Stultz will play an uptight, put-together man whose life is turned upside down when his screwup cousin moves in. Young is that cousin, described as “sweet, clueless and naive with an uncanny ability to say/do the wrong thing at the wrong time, even though he means really well,” which is exactly the character Young plays to well.
Chris Geidner was in Denver for the Utah marriage appeal, and it seems one judge is on the side of equality, one thinks states have the right to make the rules, and another had pointed questions for both sides.

Blue singer Lee Ryan, who came out as bixesual on Celebrity Big Brother is in a nasty breakup with Jasmine Waltz, who claims she caught him with a man. After the breakup was reported in The Sun, Waltz tweeted ”Unfortunately the Sun failed to mention the real reason… which was that the minute I got home to La, he cheated on me with a Man! #admitUgay.”
The Mississippi House and Senate, just before the legislative session ended, passed their right to discriminate law. The governor is expected to sign it, and then the court cases can begin.
Mozilla CEO Brendan Eich gave an interview to CNet, where he refused to say what his current thoughts on marriage equality were, but that the bad press was jeopardizing the company itself. “The other thing is imagine a world without Firefox.

Big Reunion boybands 5ive and Blue have backed the idea of a girlband tour.
The groups are part of the boyband-only arena tour, appearing on the bill with 911, Damage, 5th Story, 3T and A1 - but there's no space on the bill for Eternal, Girl Thing, or any of the women from the previous series.
Atomic Kitten's Natasha Hamilton has criticised the lack of equality, complaining that the ladies of this year's show "don't even get a look-in".
Blue's Simon Webbe told Digital Spy: "I think the girls deserve their own tour. I don't see why they shouldn't get together and see what they can do."
His bandmate Lee Ryan added: "I would hope the girls want to get together and do it. If they do I'll come on that tour!
"I'll just clean their dressing rooms. I'll just make sure their rollers are in the right...

The Big Reunion is on tour again, but this time it's a lads only affair, with 5ive, Blue, 911, Damage, 5th Story, 3T and A1 heading to an arena near you in October.
Digital Spy got on the phone with 5ive's Sean Conlon and Scott Robinson, and Anthony Costa, Simon Webbe and Lee Ryan of Blue, and quizzed them all about it.
"On the first tour there was a little bit of healthy competition, a little bit of banter. Who's going to play where... who's going to open, who's going to close," Conlon said when asked if there had been a running order squabble fest.
"But we never expected to play arenas again, so this is just a bonus really. I think nobody's bothered anymore, we just want to get on tour, have some fun and just have a great laugh.
"Blue are a little bit later, but we're all bands from the '90s.

Fill your lungs with the memories of smoke machines and polished wood, as we fondly reflect on those nights of youthful innocence – the beloved school disco.
Such nauseating disco excitement is impossible to belly up to as a grown up: unless you’re dabbling in Class A’s, which we’re definitely not advocating.
Before we begin the fun and games here, it’s important to mention the one pressing issue of the school disco, which still haunts to this day – the agony (or elation, depending on who you were) surrounding the build up to the obligatory slow dance. The trauma and urge to vomit hotdog all over the school hall remains in the deepest darkest parts of every child’s subconscious today, no matter how buried.
