Gold House and the Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment (Cape) have launched Gold Open to celebrate the historic release of the R-rated comedy, “Joy Ride.”
Gold Open urges the Asian Pacific community to connect and join together, via social media and at theaters, to drive “Joy Ride” to become a success during its July 7 opening weekend.
The celebratory effort will include Gold Open screenings across the U.S., as a result of the initiative’s current theater buyouts. Kevin Hart’s two entertainment businesses, Hartbeat Productions and Laugh Out Loud, are merging into a single comedy-centered entity called Hartbeat.
Along with the combination, the company is also announcing a 100 million investment by private equity firm Abry Partners. Nicolas Massard, a partner at Abry, will join the Hartbeat board. NBCUniversal’s Peacock, which signed a multi-year, first look deal with Laugh Out Loud and acquired an equity stake in 2020, will remain a shareholder.
Thai Randolph, who led the capital raise and held the posts of president and COO of Laugh Out Loud and COO of Hartbeat Productions, has been upped to CEO of the new entity. Hartbeat Productions’ Bryan Smiley will head content and Lol’s Jeff Clanagan will spearhead distribution, with each also getting the title of president. Hartbeat Productions co-founder Leland Wigington will lead a new production banner under Hartbeat.

Women’S Media Center Co-Founders Jane Fonda, Robin Morgan, and Gloria Steinem, have announced that The Women’S Media Center will host the first-ever Wmc Exceptional Journalism Awards, recognizing outstanding journalism by diverse women storytellers.
The virtual event will take place on Thursday, December 16th.
