Exclusive: Stephen Merchant has revealed that The Outlaws Season 3 could be the comedy crime thriller’s swansong.
The creator of the BBC/Amazon hit said “never say never” on making more but “the problem at the moment is whenever I finish a project I feel a bit burned out and need to take some time away to regroup.”
He said there are no plans to make more Outlaws as it currently stands and he is instead preparing for a stand-up comedy tour and working on developing film scripts, along with exec producing Greg Daniels’ upcoming The Office spin-off.
“I think this series concludes in a very nice way and hopefully might bring a tear to the eye, so if it does then that would be great,” Merchant told Deadline in the days leading up to Season 3 premiere. “I am so pleased it’s run this long. I’ve enjoyed the cast,...

Who’s ready to go back behind bars? In a surprise announcement, Deadline reports that Mayans M.C. co-creator, executive producer, and showrunner Elgin James is developing a new Prison Break project for Hulu. Written and executive-produced by James through his Sierra Drive studio, the revised version marks a new chapter of the incarceration thriller.
Elgin is keeping details about the new Prison Break project in solitary. However, Deadline says, “it is not expected to involve the characters who were at the center of the original series and its followups on Fox.” The original Prison Break debuted in 2005, following Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) and Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) as two brothers hatching a plan to escape Fox River State Penitentiary. With Lincoln heading for Death Row, it’s only a matter of time before push comes to shove, and the brothers must enact their plan or face the consequences of their actions.

Even though the body is still a bit warm and only just buried, it’s time to officially close the book on FX’s “Mayans M.C.” And what better way to do that than with an extended interview with the creative mastermind behind the series, Elgin James? And in this, the final episode of Templo Talk: A Mayans M.C. Podcast, James joins me to discuss the end of ‘Mayans’ and how the highly emotional fifth season was created.

FX’s “Mayans M.C.” is a tough, violent, and unflinching portrait of a Southern California motorcycle club fighting a bloody war to protect its territory. Yet it’s also a show filled with moments of subtlety and tenderness, in which the repercussions of violence for both the victim and the perpetrator are thoughtfully and powerfully considered. The balance between the harsh and the poignant that characterizes the show has been there from the beginning, but since Elgin James took over as sole showrunner in Season 3, the show has grown steadily deeper and more visceral, reaching its artistic peak in its fifth and final season, which ends July 19.
One of the key contributors to the evolution of the series’ tone and visual style is director of photography Vanessa Joy Smith, who was a camera operator on the first two seasons and then stepped into the role of cinematographer for the remainder of the show’s run.

This season has been a slow-burning affair -- a lot less in your face and much more subtle in its intensity as the town fell further and further into mayhem.
From Season 2 Episode 9 was the set-up for the end, and often, penultimate installments can be real barn burners. The kind of gasp-worthy episodes that have you counting down the hours until all is resolved in the finale.
But that's not really From, and it never will be.
From isn't about jumping from one plot to another and tying up everything with a nice bow. Once you understand that, it makes the viewing experience even better.
I can admit that I haven't always seen the vision, more desperate for concrete answers than just trying to understand and enjoy what's happening in front of me.
But somewhere around From Season 2 Episode 6, the pinnacle of the series' short lifespan, I became less obsessed with getting answers,...

The central mystery regarding the place the townsfolk are stuck in continues to get more unnerving and baffling with each episode of MGM+’s mystery thriller From. The intricately woven storyline acts almost like a metaphor for life; just when we think we have a grasp of the narrative, it throws a wicked curveball at us, forcing us to reconsider everything we had assumed so far.
In the previous episode, which was also the midseason finale of this ongoing season, one of the most triumphant moments of the series took place as Boyd managed to kill one of the nocturnal monsters using his infected blood. Tabitha struggles with recurrent bouts of visions of disfigured children since her return from the underground maze, and Jade notices her during one of those hallucination bouts. Sara’s return to town leads to an awkward situation as she is hated by most of the townsfolk for her past actions,...

Is anyone surprised by how quickly that spiraled out of control?
The minute Jim decided Randall was a person worth trusting during From Season 2 Episode 7, you knew it was going to go downhill at some point.
Though there’s something to be said for just how spectacularly bad things ended up at the end of From Season 2 Episode 8.
From loves a cliffhanger, and this one was certainly a wild one.
Randall and Donna have been butting heads since the jump, with Randall totally and completely unwilling to fall in line and accept what was happening around him. He spent so much time pushing back in the earlier parts of the season, and Donna didn’t have the time for it.
There were far more significant issues for Donna than Randall’s petulance.
His poor attitude hadn’t endeared him to many, and yet, Jim found him to be someone he could trust,...

Well, From Season 2 Episode 6 was certainly a game-changer.
From Season 2 has been a rather slow affair, the whole season thus far covering about two days or so, but they've crammed an awful lot into that time frame, and as we head toward the end, it feels like we're on the cusp of something.
But what that something is, I do not know.
Ever since his foray into the woods, Boyd has been struggling big time, both mentally and physically. The creepy crawlers won't let up, and he's slowly losing his grip on reality.
As the de facto leader for so long, Boyd has had to tamper down his wants and his feelings for the town's good. He's had to be strong. He's had to have the answers.
When the plane is shaking and turbulence out of control, he's had to be the reassuring flight attendant with a bright smile still...

Even in a hopeless, godforsaken place infested by nocturnal monsters, from which there seem to be no escape, forgiveness is hard to come by. The knowledge of Sara’s return was going to rile up the townsfolk anyway due to her past actions, but Kenny in particular was up for a traumatic realization as he discovered that Sara was responsible for his father’s death, and that despite knowing that, Boyd has tried to keep that information from him since his return. Meanwhile, Jim tries to theorize that all the inexplicable shenanigans around the town might be the experimental handiwork of some unseen observers who have put the residents in the town to monitor their reactions to various conditions but gets rebuked as he shares this speculation with Donna. Tabitha keeps seeing the mysterious disfigured children across the town since her return from the underground maze and tries to come...

That was depressing but in an entertaining way.
From Season 2 Episode 5 brought all the feels as the town reacted to Sara's return, and we saw one of the most moving moments of the series yet.
With From Season 2 officially halfway over, we're no closer to figuring out what's going on in the town, but we have been diving even deeper into these characters, making for some intense and rich hours of television.
After giving up his badge at the end of From Season 2 Episode 4, Kenny didn't go home just to lick his wounds but also to tell his new roommates all about Sara's return. Tabitha and Jim wasted no time seeking her out.
Boyd had to know that keeping Sara hidden wasn't an option once Kenny went rogue, yet he didn't seem wholly prepared for just how angry her return would make Jim and Tabitha.
Sara tried to kill their son.

In the previous episode, we saw Boyd getting back into the town after the mysterious person shackled in chains. infected him with skin-crawling worms. After leaving the fates of major characters dangling with a cliffhanger of an ending in the finale of the first season, MGM’s “From” has returned with its second season, which has raised more questions than it’s answered. In the final episode of the first season, we saw Boyd and Sara venturing further into the wilderness to find an escape route for the residents of the hellish town, and as the duo reached the farthest point, they spotted a lighthouse. With worsening weather and lessening daylight, they became concerned about shelter, and the mysterious boy dressed in white communicated with Sara and asked both of them to seek refuge inside a faraway tree. Boyd enters and gets transported to a deep drywell in an unknown location. Meanwhile, at the Matthews household in town, Tabitha searches through the hole in the basement and ends up at the lowest level after it collapses further.

Be brave, they said. Be brave? In This Economy?!
The one thing you can't say about any of the unlucky residents of the worst town in existence is that they aren't brave! And yet From Season 2 Episode 1 called on so many of them to be even braver than usual, as things were spiraling steadily throughout the hour.
Welcome back, #FROMily! I've missed you.
One thing about From is that they will give you that detailed 'Previously On…' montage, and I, for one, will eat it up every single time. Because it's been a minute since we left things, and I needed the reminder about the character's various states of distress.
The main one being Boyd, who hopped in a tree and ended up in what looked like a chimney of some kind.
Not much had changed since we left him there, and the series decided to spend pretty limited time with him here,...

Egypt, which is home to the Middle East and North Africa’s biggest film industry, will not participate in the Best International Film Oscar race this year.
According to Egyptian media reports, confirmed by Deadline, the committee of critics and cinema professionals responsible for selecting the country’s submission decided not to send a film for the lack of a credible candidate.
The four films on the final shortlist comprised Marwan Hamed’s Kira & El Gin, Hadi El-Baghoury’s Full Moon, Sherif Arafa’s The Crime and Magdy Ahmed Ali’s 2 Talaat Harb.
Two films generating potential submission buzz — Nadine Khan’s Abu Saddam and Omar El Zohairy’s Cannes 2021 Critics’ Week winner Feathers — could not be taken into consideration because they did not meet the 2022 theatrical release requirements.

In addition to the renewal, Karey Burke, president of 20th Television, a division of Disney Television Studios, also shared that James had reached a new multiyear deal with the company.
“Elgin is a visionary leader who has managed the nearly impossible task of being in multiple places at one time as director, showrunner and writer on his brilliant ‘Mayans M.C.,’” Burke said in a statement. “He’s also a passionate champion of emerging voices and young storytellers both in front and behind the camera, which is another reason...
