Steven Spielberg was instrumental in making Jurassic World (2015) the third-highest-grossing film at the time of its release. Spielberg, who served as an executive producer in the film, suggested the idea of a functional dinosaur park to the writers. The film has now dropped a few positions on the box office-based ranking but remains the best among the Jurassic Park sequels.

Universal Studios managed to bring out two more films in the series, but even Spielberg won’t be able to save the quality drop in the movies as the franchise looks for a reboot. He has made it clear that he will not be returning as a director in the Jurassic Park franchise.

In 2014, Naomi Watts voiced an animated version of herself in the “BoJack Horseman” episode “One Trick Pony.” The Watts in Hollywoo — the “BoJack” stand-in for the entertainment industry’s epicenter, inhabited mostly by anthropomorphic animals — is starring opposite BoJack in a biopic about his frenemy, Mr. Peanutbutter. She appears on set preparing to play Diane, a burgeoning writer. The meta joke is the actress accepted the part to get a break from emotionally draining, praiseworthy performances.
“I just keep getting pigeonholed as these complex characters in highly acclaimed movies,” the animated Watts bemoans to a character who is a parody of host Ryan Seacrest (A Ryan Seacrest Type). “For once, I would just love to phone it in and play a two-dimensional girl in a rom-com with no inner life of her own. That’s kind of the reason I got into this business.”
Ten years later, that tongue-in-cheek guest appearance now feels almost prophetic.

Chris Pratt is one of Hollywood’s favorite leading men, as he continues to lead franchise after franchise. After working in a plethora of franchises such as The Terminal List, The Lego Movie, The Super Mario Bros., Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and many more, he is on the verge of adding yet another franchise to his illustrious career. Steven Spielberg’s visionary approach to bringing the prehistoric era of roaring allosaurus and menacing tyrannosaurus alive met a disappointing end with Chris Pratt’s Jurassic World Dominion. The film’s billion-dollar potential led Colin Trevorrow to follow through with the threequel and almost tanked the entire franchise if not for Spielberg’s reputation that still remains attached to the IP.

Jenna Ortega is heading into production on season 2 of the Addams Family-inspired Netflix series Wednesday and has a prominent role in the long-awaited sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, but she’s no longer a part of two other franchises. After starring in Scream (2022) and Scream VI, she reportedly asked for a substantial pay raise to return for Scream 7, despite knowing that request wouldn’t go over well with the producers at Spyglass Media – and sure enough, Spyglass opted not to bring her back for Scream 7. Now the full trailer for the upcoming Netflix animated series Jurassic World: Chaos Theory – which serves as a follow-up to the animated series Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous – reveals that Ortega’s Camp Cretaceous character Brooklynn has been killed off! “Jurassic World: Chaos Theory” Trailer – “Camp Cretaceous” Sequel Kills Off Jenna Ortega’s Character
In the wake of the five-season animated series “Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous,” Netflix’s “Jurassic World: Chaos Theory” is stomping its way onto the platform this year.

While the other characters from “Camp Cretaceous” are back in the new series, what’s interesting here is that Jenna Ortega’s Brooklynn is not coming back. “I have no illusions,” Oscar winning-director Damien Chazelle said on a podcast in March. “I won’t get a budget of Babylon size any time soon, or at least not on this next one.”
Chazelle was reflective about his 2022 Paramount Pictures epic that starred Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt, received mixed reviews and grossed $63 million globally against a reported budget of $80 million. “Certainly, in financial terms, Babylon didn’t work at all,” Chazelle said. “Maybe I won’t be able to get [the next] one made. I have no idea. We’ll have to wait and see.”
That ambivalent sentiment isn’t an outlier. Directors — from Oscar winners like Chazelle to up-and-comers — are in a precarious position when it comes to major studio projects. Not that this is new. Stripped of nuance, the definition of movie jail has always been: Lose the studio a lot of money and you don’t get...

The Jurassic Park films, especially the first, are one of Steven Spielberg’s most acclaimed feats that pushed the boundaries with what one could do with visual effects. The director managed to bring dinosaurs to life in such a lively and entertaining way and the effects still stand up to this day. The franchise spawned a new trilogy in the 2010s with the Jurassic World trilogy.

Reviews for The Phantom Menace were, it’s fair to say, mixed. Looking back on it, that’s understandable. It’s a mixed film. After a lot of excitement and hype for the return of the game-changing franchise, some anti-climax was inevitable. 133 minutes and countless midi-chlorians later, a sense of disappointment gave way to rage for some.
Attack of the Clones had an improved, if not stellar, critical reception and Revenge of the Sith continued this trend to be recognized as the best of the three. That said, despite the upward trajectory there was a sense that these films would never recover from their initial mauling and that their lasting legacy would be their failure to recapture the magic of the Original Trilogy in a sustained way.

Scarlett Johansson is taking a bite out of a new blockbuster. The actor is in talks to join Universal’s new Jurassic World movie, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Universal is moving quickly on the film, which has a July 2, 2025, release date. Gareth Edwards is directing the new Jurassic World, which has a script from Jurassic Park scribe David Koepp. Edwards stepped into the role after David Leitch exited following a short attachment to the project.

Welcome to a new era of "Star Wars," in more ways than one. Today's newly-released trailer for "The Acolyte" has been a long time coming, promising to delve into an older and more unknown period of history in the galaxy far, far away. Set over a century before the prequel movies during the epoch known as The High Republic, the upcoming Disney+ series will cover wholly new ground that fans have never seen before -- at least, those who haven't been keeping up with the various official tie-in novels released over the last few years. But filling in lore gaps in the canon isn't the only reason why this exciting new story should be on our radar, however. The talent involved in this series both in front of and behind the camera immediately sets it apart from any other to this point, although one name stands tall above the rest.

Reports of filmmakers signing on to direct a "Star Wars" movie have come to elicit fewer squeals of delight than wisecracks guesstimating how long until they leave the project over "creative differences." At this stage, Patty Jenkins, Taika Waititi, Colin Trevorrow, Kevin Feige, "Game of Thrones" showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, and more have all entered the revolving door that is signing on to helm a Star War for Disney, only to walk right back out again or find themselves going in circles despite their continued reassurances that they will, one day, walk all the way in.

At a time when the star system has started to fade and movie studios are blandly reasserting themselves as the true auteurs of Hollywood cinema, a soft-spoken British director with a flair for puzzles and a fiendish penchant for scarves has somehow become one of the most famous pop artists on the planet.

Welcome back, friends, to the latest episode of "As the Jurassic World Turns." When last we left our intrepid franchise (the one formerly known as "Jurassic Park"), it had just completed a trilogy of films with the "Jurassic World" rebrand moniker. Those films — 2015's "Jurassic World," 2018's "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom," and 2022's "Jurassic World Dominion," were made under the auspices of director/co-writer Colin Trevorrow (with J.A. Bayona taking over the directing duties for "Fallen Kingdom") and followed Trevorrow's outline, seeing John Hammond's dream of resurrecting dinosaurs for theme park purposes come to fruition and then go wildly out of control, resulting in the entire planet becoming overrun with once-extinct species.
Given the unfortunately tepid reception that "Dominion" received, Universal and Steven Spielberg's Amblin Partners decided to fast-track a follow-up. It's still not altogether clear what this new installment will be following up; it retains the "Jurassic World" title for now,...

The as-yet untitled special will be Sandler’s second for Netflix after his 2018 Emmy-nominated “100% Fresh.”
Sandler’s Netflix deal, which has been extended twice, produced films like “Leo,” “You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah,” “Hustle,” and two “Murder Mystery” movies. Sandler also stars in “Spaceman” alongside Carey Mulligan and Paul Dano; the feature will be released on Netflix March 1.
The Safdie Brothers have marked a creative split as of late, with Benny Safdie co-writing the Sandler-fronted sports movie but stepping away as co-director. Josh Safdie will solo direct.

Lilly Wachowski is officially making her solo feature directorial debut after sister Lana Wachowski helmed “The Matrix Resurrections.”
As confirmed to Collider, Lilly will direct upcoming queer dramedy “Trash Mountain,” with lead actor Caleb Hearon penning the script. Colin Trevorrow has signed on as a producer, along with Eddie Vaisman and Julia Lebedev at Sight Unseen.
Per the official synopsis, “Trash Mountain” follows a gay Chicago man in his 20s who must return to rural Missouri to deal with the death of his father — an obsessive hoarder who has left a house full of items, some valuable and some not so, to pick through. “Human Resources” writer and “Fargo” actor Hearon cowrote the script with Ruby Caster.
“When my pal Caleb Hearon sent me ‘Trash Mountain,’ I leapt at the chance to direct it,” Lilly said in a statement. “So beautiful and sad and funny! Queer representation and stories are...

The Matrix and Sense8 mastermind Lilly Wachowski is here to take out the trash for her next film, Trash Mountain. The project finds Wachowski teaming up with comedian Caleb Hearon for what Collider says is an emotional comedy about closure through sorting the belongings of a hoarder. Casting for the film is underway, with Colin Trevorrow producing alongside Eddie Vaisman and Julia Lebedev of Sight Unseen.
Caleb Hearon, a rising comedian, wrote the script with Ruby Caster. The comedian also stars in the project, which sounds like part tearjerker and part knee-slapper. According to Collider‘s exclusive report, Trash Mountain “follows a gay Chicago man in his 20s who must return to rural Missouri to deal with the death of his father — an obsessive hoarder who has left a house full of items, some valuable and some not so, to pick through.”

It's difficult to encapsulate the importance of Lana and Lilly Wachowski as directors. While the queer crime thriller "Bound" marked the sisters' directorial debut, it was their 1999 hit "The Matrix" that completely changed the landscape of science-fiction cinema forever. In 2021, the franchise's fourth installment, "The Maxtrix Resurrections" was released, but the film was a solo directorial venture from Lana Wachowski. Lilly has not directed a film since 2015's "Jupiter Ascending," but spent time directing season 1 of "Sense 8" and serving as the showrunner for "Work in Progress." The former was yet another sci-fi epic, but the latter is a sweet, semi-autobiographical queer dramedy starring Abby McEnany. It seems that working on this series must have inspired Lilly to continue similar creative ventures because according to a report from Collider, her next feature film is "Trash Mountain" starring Caleb Hearon.

After teaming for Jupiter Ascending in 2015, the Wachowski sisters split, with Lana Wachowski returning a few years ago for the severely underrated The Matrix Resurrections. At long last, Lilly Wachowski is now preparing to return to the world of filmmaking, announcing her first feature in a decade.
Lilly Wachowski will direct Trash Mountain, set to star comedian Caleb Hearon, Collider reports. Backed by Colin Trevorrow’s Metronome Film Co., the script was written by Hearon and Ruby Caster, and follows “a gay Chicago man in his 20s who must return to rural Missouri to deal with the death of his father — an obsessive hoarder who has left a house full of items, some valuable and some not so, to pick through.” Described as a “hilarious, warm, and emotional script,” it certainly sounds like exciting, different territory for Lilly Wachowski, known mostly for her genre outings.

The "Jurassic World" franchise is simply too big to go extinct. We recently learned that not only is Universal Pictures developing a seventh entry in the long-running dinosaur franchise, but the movie is set to hit theaters next summer. Yes, assuming the release date holds, we'll be seated for a new blockbuster in which humans and dinos try to co-exist in just over a year. For the moment, the studio is remaining very tight-lipped about the film, which opens the door for us to speculate wildly. That's precisely what we're going to do, while not going too off the rails with unfounded theorizing.
Rather, as a self-proclaimed super-fan of the franchise, I am going to take you, dear reader, through the options that can reasonably be considered, broadly speaking, following 2022's "Jurassic World Dominion." We're going to go over each broad possibility, as well as the pros and cons of each approach.

Everything Jurassic-aged is new again.
While the sequel trilogy to the original Steven Spielberg dino-adventure “Jurassic Park,” based on Michael Crichton’s beloved speed-read novel, concluded with Colin Trevorrow’s “Jurassic World Dominion” in 2022, Universal Pictures has eyes on July 4 weekend in 2025 for another effects-heavy action-thriller. And according to The Hollywood Reporter, “John Wick” and “Bullet Train” director David Leitch will be at the helm.
The new picture will boast a screenplay by writer-director David Koepp, who co-wrote the original with Crichton in 1993 and has a solo writing credit (and second unit director credit) for 1997’s “The Lost World: Jurassic Park.” Koepp got out of the way of rompin’ stompin’ ancient beasts for a while but stayed in the Spielberg orbit with co-writing duties on “War of the Worlds” and the two most recent “Indiana Jones” pictures. Spielberg and his Amblin Entertainment associates like Frank Marshall are all attached as producers to this new one.

Universal Pictures appears to be wasting precisely zero time in getting the "Jurassic World" franchise back up and running again. Even though we only recently learned that original "Jurassic Park" writer David Koepp has been working on a script for a new installment in the franchise, we've now learned that the studio has set a 2025 release date for the film. What's more, they're zeroing in on a big-name director to tackle the project in the form of David Leitch ("John Wick." "Deadpool 2").
According to Deadline, Leitch is in early talks to occupy the director's chair of the upcoming "Jurassic" film, which does not have a title yet but would be the seventh entry in the series overall. Leitch previously worked for Universal on the "Fast & Furious" spin-off "Hobbs & Shaw," which was a big success taking in $760 million at the global box office back in 2019. [Editor’s note: The following article contains spoilers for “Argylle.”]
During the final act of Matthew Vaughn’s spy comedy “Argylle,” most audience members will likely find themselves hyper-focused on just what star Bryce Dallas Howard has slapped on to her feet. That’s probably old hat for Howard, who previously weathered a controversy centered on the footwear her “Jurassic World” character, the prickly and prissy Claire Dearing, sported during some seriously scary dino-centric action (remember those heels?). This time around, however, Howard is outfitted in the kind of apparel that should only make audiences stand up and cheer, rather than sit down and moan in sympathy, “Ah, my aching feet!”

If you wondered what Colin Trevorrow was doing post his Jurassic trilogy, the answer probably isn’t what you expected. His next project is a script he’s penned with World collaborator Derek Connolly, plus British comedy duo The Pin, aka Ben Ashenden and Alexander Owen (who made brief appearances in Jurassic World Dominion) – a starry comedy titled Deep Cover. And as far as it looks, there isn’t a dinosaur in sight.
The film revolves around a trio of improv actors who take part in police stings, catching out unaware criminals – but soon they get sucked into London’s criminal underworld thanks to the power of pure persuasion. Those three yes-anders will be played by Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom, and Ted Lasso’s Nick Mohammed – and they’ll be joined in the cast by Sean Bean, Ian McShane, Paddy Considine, and Sonoya Mizuno. That’s a seriously stacked cast.

It was recently revealed that Universal Pictures is developing a new movie in the "Jurassic World" franchise, with David Koepp penning the screenplay. That was big news because Koepp, who has frequently collaborated with director Steven Spielberg during his long career, penned the script for the original "Jurassic Park." Given the love that movie still has more than 30 years later, it's a big deal. And, given that Koepp hasn't worked on this franchise since "The Lost World," it's a curious development. That part was, indeed, surprising. What should not surprise anyone, though, is the fact that Universe is making another movie set in this universe.
There are undoubtedly those amongst you who groaned when thinking about another one of these movies. To say that the "Jurassic World" trilogy is divisive would be an understatement. A long time ago, in a movie theater not too far away… a series of films came out that captured the imagination of movie fans everywhere. The Star Wars franchise has been a giant among the most loved movies ever made. The original trilogy has been held up as sacred. When it came time for the Prequels, original fans were a little let down, but young fans embraced them. They have finally aged into their place in Star Wars canon.

A new 'Jurassic World' film is in development.Universal Pictures are working on a new movie in the dinosaur franchise that will see David Koepp – who wrote the screenplay for the original 'Jurassic Park' film in 1993 – pen the script.Progress on the picture is far enough along that Universal are said to be planning a 2025 release date.No director is currently attached but producer Frank Marshall – who was involved in the 'Jurassic World' trilogy – is working on the project while original director Steven Spielberg will executive produce for his Amblin Entertainment banner. The flick is thought to be launching a "new Jurassic era" with a brand-new storyline. This would appear to rule out the returns of the 'Jurassic World' characters played by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard as well as original 'Jurassic Park' cast members Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum.

Universal appears to have a script for a new Jurassic World film written by David Koepp – and it could be out in 2025. More here.
Even though the critical notices for 2022’s trilogy-closer Jurassic World: Dominion were not on the positive side, the film still managed to just about claw in over $1bn at the global box office. And while it brought to an end the narrative of the six films in the Jurassic Park boxset to that point, few really believed that it was the last we’d seen of the franchise on the big screen.
And so it proves.
News has broken that David Koepp – who penned the screenplay for the original Jurassic Park – has quietly been hard at work fashioning a fresh Jurassic World story. Note that it’s a Jurassic World story and not a Jurassic Park story.

Some gigantic news today for lovers of dinosaur-centric cinema, as one of the original creatives behind "Jurassic Park" is returning to the fold more than 30 years later. The "Jurassic World" trilogy may have ended in 2022 with the release of "Jurassic World Dominion," but Universal Pictures is evidently trying to keep the series alive with a new movie -- one that might be coming our way sooner rather than later. While details are scarce for the time being, it has come to light that none other than David Koepp is writing a new movie in the franchise.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Koepp is not only writing a new "Jurassic" movie, but it is pretty far along in the development process. So much so that a 2025 release date is said to be possible, which would be downright remarkable given that this is the first thing we've officially heard about the film.

While researching and preparing to make his 2012 survival film The Impossible, filmmaker Juan Antonio Bayona came across the book La sociedad de la nieve by journalist Pablo Vierci. Though the story of the 1972 Andes accident was a familiar one, Bayona had never seen the account contextualised in the same way. Uruguayan native Vierci’s book, written 36 years after the tragic events, benefitted from distance, looking beyond the facts to provide a psychological approach to the circumstances and how they shaped the survivors’ lives. After completing The Impossible, Bayona bought the rights to Vierci’s book and began a decade-long journey to bring the story to the screen.

While researching and preparing to make his 2012 survival film The Impossible, filmmaker Juan Antonio Bayona came across the book La sociedad de la nieve by journalist Pablo Vierci. While the 2020s have been a verifiable graveyard for potential Star Wars films that never made it beyond the development stage, directors passing through without seeing their ideas come to fruition isn’t exactly a new phenomenon over at Lucasfilm.
Even before Disney took the reins of the studio, the galaxy far, far away saw a wide variety of potential directors enter its orbit over the years. From Return of the Jedi to the present day, there are quite a few well-known directors who came close to making their mark on this universe but for one reason or other never actually hit lightspeed.
Here are the many directors who almost made Star Wars movies…
David Lynch – Return of the Jedi
George Lucas offered several directors the opportunity to helm the final film of the Original Trilogy before settling on Richard Marquand. One of Lucas’ top choices at the time was David Lynch,...

Four years on, we’re still learning new things about The Rise of Skywalker and the behind the scenes decisions that led to the highly divisive final chapter of the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy. For some, Episode IX was a return to form for the franchise, while for others, it paled in comparison to what came before, particularly the equally divisive The Last Jedi, because it chose to play the hits instead of saying anything new about characters or their world.
In particular, there are still fans out there debating the movie’s most controversial and surprising arc — Kylo Ren’s return to the light side, shedding his Supreme Leader guise and becoming Ben Solo once again, and the infamous kiss with Daisy Ridley’s Rey that followed. Diehard “Reylo” fans — those who support Rey and Kylo’s romantic connection — would tell you their smooch on Exegol tracks with their arc across the Sequel Trilogy,...

Deadline reports that Amazon is developing Halcyon, a sci-fi thriller based on Christopher Long’s graphic novel Hiding In Time. Halcyon comes from Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow, who will executive produce through his Metronome Film Company alongside Andrew Mittman’s 1.21 banner.
Halcyon is a “paranoid sci-fi thriller in which the Witness Protection Program relocates families to various eras in time. The series unravels a conspiracy that emerges when this seemingly infallible system is breached.” Sounds interesting. In addition to producing Halcyon, Colin Trevorrow will also direct the pilot of the series. Davey Holmes (Shameless) will serve as showrunner of the project, and will executive produce alongside Trevorrow, Mittman, and Lloyd Braun.

After helming Jurassic World, Colin Trevorrow stepped back for J.A. Bayona to take the reins of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, but he returned for Jurassic World: Dominion.
