With over 14 years' experience in Production, Film Distribution, Media, Marketing communications and Alternative Investments, Mimi Bartels is currently Head of Production at FilmOne Entertainment, largest Distribution/Production Company in West Africa; prior to this, she was Head of Accounts for Nollywood and Independent films. FilmOne is also home to Warner Bros, Disney, Sony, 20th Century FOX, Empire Entertainment in West Africa and premium Nollywood content including West Africa's biggest box office local content movie - King of Boys 1, The Wedding Party 1&2 etc. Mimi also holds a 2:1 Business Administration degree from Liverpool John Moores University.
She started her film career as a Production Assistant in 2010.
Amongst other notable efforts, Mimi spearheaded distribution for 70% of the all-time top 10 box office releases in Nigeria since 2016. Her first ever story was developed for Toyin Abraham's comedy film franchise (Alakada), Fate of Alakada in 2020; this was her first ever Producer related credit which ended up being the 2nd highest grossing movie of 2020in Nigeria and is one of the most streamed movies on Netflix. She produced her first film, Kambili: The Whole 30 yards, a fan favourite on Netflix which was the first film from the West African Film Fund which she aided in establishing. Mimi supervised production for 7 films during the pandemic and holds Producer credits for 4 out of those films. Mimi is fully involved in Casting on all projects she produces.
Mimi also worked on the top 3 Nigerian movies of 2020 as a consultant with other credits including- Co-Executive Producer, Co-producer. In 2021, 3 movies in which she has Producer and 1 Supervising Producer credit made it to the top 10 list, taking the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 8th spot.
Mimi has worked on over 25 co-productions and currently has Producer/Co-Executive Producer/Supervising Producer credit in over 14 films.
In 2021, Mimi Bartels was listed as top Cinema Film Producer, Variety Magazine's "Women That Have Made an Impact in Global Entertainment," and interviewed by Golden Globes Awards for her film Kambili, where she shared insights on the advancement of Nollywood amidst the challenges presented by the pandemic, received the Eko Star Award, an award recognising the considerable accomplishments of women in the film and television industry by Lagos state government.
In 2022, she is leading the first FilmOne solo production called ADIRE, diversifying into series, personally created 4 of them which are currently being developed. Also in 2022, Films churned out from the FilmOne stables under her reign received 9 AMVCA nominations with one win for the lead male in a comedy film in her 4th produced film 'Dwindle'.
In her younger years, Mimi started a charity organization called "For Every Stroke" which hosted charitable events to help victims of Stroke and other terminal diseases. She also co-founded YFRE- Youth For Renewable Energy under Green Energy Society of Nigeria. She also owned a blog known as "Miseducation of Mimi" currently being adapted into a six-part episode series.
Mimi is happily married, with 2 children.
